It's Pouring Rain in the MMP

Some of us were busy at work, running your Prime packages through the Box Crusher 9000. :stuck_out_tongue:

Joke’s on you - I got my last expected Prime package yesterday!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Tango waited until 6:04 to wake us all up this morning. Highs predicted around 96°F, which is awful but the 10-day shows a steady cooling trend down to the mid-70s by the end of next week. Hope everybody has a productive and happy Thorsday.

Good morning all. 68F this fine morning heading for 79F, but due to get colder for the weekend. Again, not much on the agenda, got the garbage and recycle cans on the curb so need to collect them once emptied and coaching the 8-9 year old boys this afternoon, so at least some activity is forecast.

wheelie, that is indeed sad news. Hope that they can recover Maki and jail the miscreants. My guess is at least one ‘insider’ that they’ll find and he/she will give up the rest.

FCM, money matters are complex, but sounds to me that you guys are doing pretty well with them. And happy 2.5 Birthdays to Roxi!

hippy, know you won’t be reading this, but good wishes on the trout-fishing and the relaxing.

nellie, love the term “Itchter Scale”. Hope it moves down the scale soon.

Everyone have a good Thorsday now.

Morning. Hubs is off to the Dr in Miami with his buddy Russ. Thank God for Russ. I am still not supposed to leave the county and will incur another 2 weeks away if I do so I didn’t. Daughter is coming back over the weekend so I can go back to irk. It will be weird going back to irk since I’ve missed so much. We are still on half days and the new guy has declared all 2021 training shall be done by 9 Dec so I shall be getting trained yet again.

Our weather has cooled off a smidge. We are actually cloudy like it may rain which would be just fine with me. The gov’t is still taking taxes out of my paycheck. I thought that was supposed to stop at the beginning of October but I’m OK with it. Less I’ll have to pay back.

Here’s hoping everyone has a great day.

I need to not google throat cancer. Apparently it’s pretty common (or at least not UNcommon) in transplant patients, but oy, vey - it’s hard to settle into. I can’t imagine what my mom is thinking. I’m so glad she moved when she did.

Went on my morning waddle with my partner, which was nice. I also forced myself to work out last night, which helped a ton with the sleepage. Now I’m on my last cup of caffeine and bugging my son about his homework. I wish he didn’t need to use a laptop. And if he has to use a laptop, I wish YouTube didn’t exist and that he wasn’t required to use it for class.

Oh well - he’s a 14 year old boy. I’m sure if things were different, he’d just find something else to distract him. Danged kids.

I’m tired of being poked. Last week flu shot in left arm. Yestiddy shingles shot in right arm (and it still hurts!) This morning blood draws for annual labs. I’m also on day 5 or 6 or 4 I don’t remember of mild hives. Taking 2 Benadryl at night makes them go away but I can’t take Benadryl during the day so they kinda come back. It’s all from work worry. Only 18 months til I can retire…

Sleeping in is a little service I provide so the rest of yah can feel superior. And I’m darn good at it. Also, I use my coffee table as a coaster and walk around my house barefoot.

Been there, done that myself, so I hope your baby blues heal up tout suite!

@nelliebly here’s hoping UW is doing well by you. Complex derm stuff is, well,…complex. Here’s to the very first treatment working right out of the gate.

Boo

The RoxStar had a good well-baby checkup - she’s way above the 50th percentile for her age, which doesn’t surprise us much. And she’s 3’1" and 33#. She got a Hep A shot and a flu shot, one in each leg, and both spots have bright pink bandages on them. Afterwards, we went to the playground for about 45 minutes - it was really nice out.

She’s napping now, and I just finished uploading more documentation for my refi. They wanted statements from both of my mortgages, but neither lender has posted anything for October yet, so I submitted captures of the web pages of my accounts with an explanation - hoping that’s good enough.

While she’s sleeping, I’ll iron the dining room curtains. No, they’re not camo - they’re a steely-gray semi-sheer with a texture pattern. I also bought a brushed nickle decorative curtain rod that needs to be installed. I should probably do that first, ya think?

Onward to choreland!

Believe me, not nearly as much as shingles do! Mine have mostly gone away but the area is still tender. Ouchy!

What?!?! :scream:

I’m beginning to suspect no glitter or sparkly either. Kinda disappointing.

I had a bad night. For no discernible reason whatsoever, the itching suddenly got worse–like about a 7 on the Icthter Scale. I ended up taking a couple of Benadryl and finally did fall asleep. I don’t understand. I was gradually getting better and am still on prednisone. Pretty discouraging. I’m going to have to call the doc, who doesn’t know much about this stuff, or the dermatology NP, who knows even less. I won’t get a call to set up an appointment at UW until next week at the earliest. I’ve never known a medical system to be this slow.

I really need to get some exercise. Prednisone is notorious for weight gain, and I’ve gained some since starting on it. :frowning: But clothes make me itchier wherever they press, like at waistbands, so what to do? I’m chilly, too.

Yay for the good RoxStar check-up. Was she brave about the shots?

WetOne, you have my empathy. (And P.S., have you tried a different antihistamine during the day, like Zyrtec, or is Benadryl the only one that works for you?)

Had 30 ounces of joe on the drive into the orifice, and three 10-ounce cups since I’ve been here.

A company sends us data for all ten of their divisions, and there are two files per division. I have to send the 20 files to two places. Oh, and one place needs the title block at the top and the other place needs the title block not to be there. Anyway, I sent 40 files this morning.

Yay, I got paid yesterday! I paid bills this morning. Now I have very little money for the next two weeks. My storage unit says I have to provide them with proof of insurance. If I don’t, they’ll sell me $2,000 wort of coverage for $13/month. I called USAA, but I don’t have my house policy with them; only my car. So I called the insurance company I insured with, knowing that they’d given my policy to another company when the owner died. They transferred me to the appropriate place. It turns out the storage unit is covered under my homeowner’s policy. So I don’t have to buy any more.

And I paid both installments of the taxes on the house in San Diego – and reimbursed myself out of the house account. (Gads, I’d like to sell that property and not have the hassles!)

And my Costco membership is due for renewal. I can’t do it online because it’s a business membership; so I either have to write a check to the person who handles it here, or change to a personal membership. The person in charge doesn’t want to do it anymore because there are only three people participating; me, her, and my boss who retired in June. I’ll pick up a salad from the place across the street on the way to Costco.

Speaking of salads, I solved The Great Salad Mystery. See, I had a meeting Tuesday so I could not go to TJ’s for my Cobb salad. I figured I’d walk across the street Tuesday. but when I looked in the fridge, there was a Cobb salad! I had to confirm with the receptionist that it was indeed Tuesday, since I buy two salads on Tuesdays and have the second one on Thursday. If there’s a salad, might it be Thursday? I wondered what the hell happened. It occurred to me on the drive home that I did not come to the orifice last Thursday. I was picking up my stolen-and-recovered motorcycle. That also explains why my mask was not in the laundry when I did laundry Monday, and was actually in my desk.

I know this isn’t GD, and you didn’t say anything wrong, Die_Capacitrix. I just always feel compelled to dispel the notion that zoos imprison and exploit animals. That may once have been the case, and it’s a bigger problem outside the U.S., but any AZA accredited facility is more about rescue, conservation, and education.

We have two black bears and two grizzlies that were orphaned and found starving to death; they are all thriving with us. A polar bear who liked raiding dumpsters in northern Canada was going to be killed by authorities before a rescue organization stepped in. She lived to be 36 (about 12 years longer than median) at our zoo. Two blind sea lions - one was shot and one was hit by a boat - lived out their lives in comfort here. Three male Mexican grey wolves who were pivotal to a breeding program that brought the species back from the brink of extinction in the wild now have a life of luxury in their retirement. (They were not equipped to be released into the wild themselves.) Stories like these abound at zoos all over the country.

Black rhinos are for all intents and purposes extinct in the wild. Zoos are keeping the species alive. Our breeding female has descendants all over North America.

Most animals born into captivity cannot be safely released anyway, so the role of these animals - with the help of our wonderful ambassadors and keepers - is to educate the public about the plight of their wild brethren, and teach folks how to help endangered species and be good global citizens. And they are treated very well.

Okay, I’m off my soap box now. Sorry. I’ll be a better Mumper from now on. :innocent:

Being passionate about things that are important to you is all a part of being a Good Mumper. So don’t apologize!

You are a perfectly fine Mumper! Passionate conversation is what I, for one, am here for. Plus, you’re good at fighting ignorance. So much of our world (literally) would be lost without zoos.

I take Allegra during the day but it really does nothing for the histamines. I have steroid cream from the MD which helps.

Happy Thorsday!

I should say chaotic Thorsday.

At least the dog park was good, if a bit chilly.

I ordered groceries this morning that need to be picked up this afternoon. Not our usual day but decided to go ahead and do it. While out I’ll need to get gas, and mail our ballots. I was going to take them to a drop off place but the ones here on town needed them by 9/30, and I’m not driving to the other drop off sites.
I’m getting some claritin for Echo, since benadryl makes her even more hyper than she usually is.

The news from the vet had me very upset. I’ve talked to Echo’s breeder and to the shar pei health group on fb, and they have calmed me down. The vet did a fine needle aspirate of her nose and a complete blood workup, I haven’t heard the results yet. She thinks it could be amyloidosis. The breeder says unlikely since it’s genetic and none of her dogs or puppies have been diagnosed. The health group says to get a different vet.

The lawn/fence/bathroom guy just dropped off everything but the tub, which won’t be here until Moonday. He says he is going to start painting the ceiling on Moonday, but that is what he said last week. I’m not in a big hurry, so whenever. Other than once he starts the tub it’d better be put in in one day as promised, although I am expecting problems, so it’ll probably be three days. We’ll hope for two.

I started this earlier, and many interruptions later I get to finish it.
Maybe.

I’m sorry you are itching Nellie.

Congrats on the well baby checkup Roxy.

Sorry about your mom Wordy

Happy irking Butters (yeah I know, go ahead and smack me)

I hope you get Maki back Wheelie

No biggie if my prime packages get crushed, nothing breakable in there Doggio
I broke down and bought some new clothes. And a new comforter. My old comforter is so pretty, but it is old and the seams are ripping, and it’s a full size and too small for my queen size bed. I probably won’t like the new one until it is an old one that needs to be replaced.

My salad is not so much a salad as a huge ball of tuna salad on a bed of spinach, with a bunch of crudité-like veggies and ranch dressing. Far too many carrot slices and cherry tomatoes. But it will do since I could not get to TJ’s today. And I have my 24-ounce Monster Ultra Zero.
