It's spring. Are you getting out?

My boss has been suggesting I take my breaks and leave on time. So I’ve been taking one of my breaks, in the afternoon, and doing a little walking around the city. It’s about a mile from the office to the brass pig at Pike Place Market and back. Just the thing for a 20-minute break. My coworker and I will walk there, or up to (almost) Seattle Center, or somewhere else. Today I suggested we go down to the waterfront and then do the ‘hill climb’ (a series of stairs from the waterfront to Pike Place Market), so we walked down Lenora to Alaskan Way, over to the ‘hill climb’, then up the hill (Western?) back to Lenora. Lenora is very steep there. When we reached the top my coworker was gasping and commented that I wasn’t. But I’ll admit it was a little rough on my destroyed knees. Going uphill I end up using my right leg most. A nice walk, though it took 25 minute instead of 20 (not that the boss is a clock-watcher – anyway, I worked through lunch.)

So what are you doing to enjoy the season?

Not much besides walking to and from the car, on the way to/from work.

Last weekend, I did manage to find time to plant a few annuals in my flower boxes in front of the house. This weekend I want to find time to plant a dozen bulbs, and Hubby planned a drive for us up the Natchez Trace to a fish house (Mother’s Day treat for me).

Just got back from a 4-day weekend. Drove down the PCH, the classic ocean road, on Saturday. Stayed in Morro Bay where there was a great car show going on. Went to see John Fogerty at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Had lunch at the original Sambo’s . Cruised downtown S’Barbara on Cinco de Mayo, caught the matinée of Iron Man, had dinner at Ruby’s. Drove home back up Highway 1 with the stereo blasting.

I’ve been working in the Bay Area this week. I was at UC - Santa Cruz yesterday, and Stanford and Santa Clara today. I walked each campus before or after my meetings. Santa Clara is beautiful - no doubt. Stanford is a classic University campus, moreso because of its stature. UC Santa Cruz is just fricking amazing. I’d have a hard time concentrating if I went to school there. Walking through redwood forests overlooking the Pacific Ocean while going between classes would be pretty cool.

Tonight, I’m in a hotel in downtown Oakland. Not much getting out here.

Cruising around college campuses, in California, in spring. Yeah, there are some jobs that are worse than mine.

I planted flowers! And The Guy and I are planning a trip to the zoo. :stuck_out_tongue: It’s a rather random (and childish?) whim of mine, but he seems willing to indulge me.

I definitely am. I love spring.

I went camping with some friends in Bodega Bay a couple of weeks ago. There was a kite festival on the beach, where I bought a new kite that I just can’t get enough of flying now. I’ve flown it a few times on my lunch break and after work.

On Saturday my husband and I went back to Bodega with some snacks and sandwiches and cheese and wine. We kicked back on the beach for a few hours, flew our kites, and just soaked in the sun.

On Sunday we went on a guided hike around a little bit of a future regional park where we saw all kinds of wildlife and enjoyed the scenery.

Today some co-workers and I took a long lunch at Hopmonk Tavern in Sebastopol, where we sat outside and enjoyed the awesome food and beer, then went to check out a new vineyard in the area. Really gorgeous.

And a couple of girlfriends and I do a 4 mile hike every Tuesday after work in one of the regional parks. It’s such a pretty park with great views from the vistas.

Love this weather. It’s just perfect.

I picked up a bunch of “in-the-dirt” perennials (though the weather hasn’t been ideal for me to put them all in yet), and today is Gardening Day with the Sister-in-Law. Gonna git me some annuals and will also create the Giant Coffee Cup Planter gift for the MIL.

I’m waiting for my rollerskates to be delivered. I’m hoping to skate off the 10 lbs that have me in a funk.

Oh…and I ankle down to the mailbox daily. I suppose that counts.

Surely am getting out - rowing most weekends, and although I’ve been ill this week the week before we had BBQs nearly every night (with or without friends) and on the weekend went out to the seaside and hung out with friends there.

Going to the track (Arlington Park). Sitting outside at the bar. Getting the pots ready for plants for my “deck garden”. Smoking outside. Driving with the windows open. Sleeping with the windows open.

Suddenly I find it much easier to get up early, so I’ve been able to fit in more early walks. I just got back from walking almost 2 miles in our neighborhood. It’s nice to get out there before it gets hot–around here it’s starting to feel summery. I think I’ll go for my first swim of the year this afternoon at the gym.

Last week I was in Utah for 4 days and spring was just beginning. I was doing a couple of days of classes, and hiking very fast all over campus inbetween sessions. That was a lot of fun, but I spent a lot of time out of breath because of the higher altitude–I started getting a bit more used to it on the last day, which wasn’t very helpful.

I’m running a lot. I have been for months, but now I’m enjoying it more.

I also spend a lot of time lying around in the grass reading books.

Spring is already over. It’s going to be 93 here today. But when it was nice, I planted a flower garden, and went for walks during lunch-breaks.

It is becoming fishing season here and I’ve been going out almost every weekend to the San Juan River and learning how to fly fish. This weekend one of the guys in my office is paying for a guided trip so hopefully this time I’ll catch some fish. Minimum size to keep on this river is 20’’ for rainbow trout so it should be amazing. Hopefully the runoff will slow down soon and I’ll be able to walk from my house and fish the Animas River.

I might, if it would stop raining just about every day.

Mostly just out enjoying the weather whenever possible. Nice walk in the park with Guitar Mommy, a couple of weeks later we had a beach picnic in Rockport. Two weeks from today I’ll go back to Rockport to mark the unofficial start of summer.

Snowshoeing. No really, there’s still enough snow, and too much for hiking. I think we’ve got a month left, unless it really warms up. But at least the snow we got yesterday didn’t stick! Rockies style spring.

Oredigger77 , you must be in Durango? Just a hop, skip and a jump from here. And I’m learning to fly fish this season, too, if we have a season given the runoff.

It’s pretty much summer here. About 90 F today. Last night we tried to turn off the A/C and go with the fan, but it climbed to 79 F inside quickly with the doors open. And humid. Supposed to get a front through on Sunday to knock us back into the mid to low 80s.

Still try to get out, although I tend to avoid the midday heat as much as possible. Walk up and get coffee in the morning. When I finish this I’m walking up to Coldstone to pick up my son. Their class is getting treated for doing well at multiplication or something. So long as I’m not paying it’s all good.

Not as much as I should, given as how I don’t really have any obligations until the 20th (that’s when my summer job starts… pretty much a dream job, yay!!). I did travel a bit (to Charlottetown to see my sister), but I don’t go out and just enjoy the weather much - when I go out, I like to have a destination or purpose, which is kind of silly, and something I’m trying to overcome.

Anyways yesterday I went out to buy my husband his birthday gift, and I walked about half the perimeter of Lafontaine park to get to a store I wanted to go to, and then down to catch the bus I wanted. It was a lovely day. I did a bit of walking downtown too - to the bank, to the book store. But here’s the thing: the shoes I was wearing were new (a gift from my mom) and it turns out they aren’t very comfortable for more than about 10 minutes!!! I now have MASSIVE blisters on both of my little toes - by the time I got back from my errands I was in agony and nearly in tears! I wanted to go out today to the store, but I’m scared to put shoes on at all, and I will never ever again wear the new ones. I’ll give them to my mom, as I know she has the same ones in another colour and loves them. I hope they heal soon, because I want to enjoy the next week off!

This past week, though, I did start up again with my dragon boat team ( a company team from where I used to work). Once out on the canal and moving, you don’t feel too cold. It’s the water that’s still a little chilly, but that will get better. I love dragon boating, and being outside on the canal is so much better than the indoor practises at the Olympic basin! I’m tempted to see if I can afford to join another team - I’d love to do this twice a week!

Today was my day off and I spent a lot of it in a hammock in my back garden.

The weather has been glorious here for the past week - blue skys and temps in the high 70s F / mid 20s C.

I commute to work by bike and really appreciate the changing weather so much more than I did when I was driving. The smell of gorse flowers is heaven at the moment - sweet coconutty essence of summer.

The dragon boats were on our Rez last month. I didn’t go see them, but my Hubby had a hand in building a floating pier for that.
