It's Time For A New MMP

I got my label off the package, it’s supposed to go to Quebec

Are they your son’s size?

Yep.The elders are staying home in the morning while the rest of us unload the truck into the apartment. FCD will take the trailer back to U-Haul then bring the truck to the apartment. Daughter and SIL will meet us there. It should go lots faster than loading. Theoretically…

I guess we pick them up after the furniture is in. Dunno - I’m labor, not management.

I’m also tahred and I plan to mosey back to bed soon. I need some serious beauty sleep.

The thing of it is, I’ve become acclimatised so I don’t have a ‘Winter coat’. I only have ‘jackets’.

A jacker won’t do when I’m standing in a snow-covered dog park when it’s 16 degrees with a wind chill of zero.

No, they are too small for my son, Nettie.
I’ll take them to the armpit, one of Niece2’s boys can wear them.

I might put on long pants in those conditions. :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re in WA these days, yes? I’ve got a friend who moved there from upstate NY about 10 years ago, and he comes to visit in winter with the most ineffectual jackets. Back in my misspent youth I went through a winter in Orono Maine in a leather biker jacket, cuz I were cool.

I actually had 2 meals today, so that’s an improvement. Fought my way through a bunch of lumber, milling, etc, getting it ready to become some nice things. It really is pretty wood. Looking forward to a weekend of mending holes in the house, had some water damage from a leaky stack vent and must to do a perimeter search for squirrel entries.

{{{hugs to all who needs 'em}}}

Before moving from Oregon to Missouri, I would have said the same. Sure, Oregon got cold (really cold sometimes - a week of 10 degrees during the daytime while I was there). Holy Hannah, 3-4 feet of snow or -20 windchill corrected me right quick. There’s winter and there’s WINTER.

Up from naptime. Making lemon pepper cod, with rice and mushrooms and bacon and pepper green beans for dinner. With a gin and tonic.

Actually it more impressive, because this was worse than herding cats.
Welcome home, FairyChats!

Fred says “Thanks!” and and likes the trails the Rad gives him.

We get those all the time.

Y’all who are spraying the (zombie?) giant sky raisins, do you not have a flyswatter? Or a rolled-up magazine or something?

Irk was insane tonight. Fridays are always busy, but we had to close the lobby super early tonight and just run the drive-thru. I was balls deep in tickets for the fryers when I got swapped out to the window. The line was literally in the street, so not only was it an endless nonstop stream, but the window was open a LOT and even I, who does not get cold easily, soon turned the space heater on and eventually started huddling with it. Holy hell that was a cold wind!

I have a slightly sore throat now, too. Could be the years or smoking and vaping, could the the hours of cold wind in a short-sleeved polo, could be the nonstop talking (“Hi, name on the order? Do you need the receipt?” etc.) but I oughta garge with salt water tonight. Olde Tyme home remedy, donchaknow.

One old bastard absolutely bitched ME out about the line, complaining that “people were getting cold waiting so long!”
His wife was apologizing to me across his lap from the passenger seat. I hope she gave him what for on the way home.

When I vented to the crew about him, one girl said I shoulda told him he can go home and make himself a sammich.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 58 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 85 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Not much on the agenda today. Sloth, tackleball, nappage, and day drinkin’ shall be the highlights. Any need to feed shall be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips, and so forth. I yanked a poke loin outta da freezer and will most likely let it hang out in the slow cooker tomorrow for tomorrow night’s sup. Side matter TBD.

MOOOOOOM hope the move in goes smoothly and the inlaws are all happy in their new digs.

MetalMouse have fun soccerin’.

shoe glad you survived last night. Hope tonight (assumin’ you are irkin’) goes better.

sari I would not know what to think if I received a package of random underwear. That’s just weird!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

This sounds so good.

My breakfast today was not as exciting - müesli with yogurt.

The weather people seem to be rather challenged. First they said it would be raining all day. Then they said there wouldn’t be any rain.

Yep, you guessed it, it’s been raining (actually alternating between rain and drizzle) for the last hour, and it the radar predicts another two hours of precipitation. Bah.

I don’t mind the precip, just the timing of it. Should have gone for a walk before it started.

Did the store run. Lots of cut-up chicken breasts (this week’s store special), but no boneless chicken thighs. Guess I’ll adapt.

Speaking of which, guess I should start lunch. Lemon chicken with salad.

Happy Saturday!

Half a glass would have worked on me, but I have none. There’s a bottle of something white in the pantry that I keep for cooking, but I’ve not cooked anything that needs wine, so it sits. But it didn’t matter - I crashed and slept pretty much 8 full hours!!

FCD is awake. BIL is up and dressed, but he doesn’t want breakfast. We’ll load the pick-up in about 30 minutes. Then FCD will take the U-Haul back and we’ll take the pick-up with its crap. We’ll all meet at the apartment and start disgorging all the crap we crammed in the big truck. If all goes well, they’ll sleep in their own apartment tonight.

FIL wasn’t doing well at all yesterday. But I know he wasn’t getting his meds on schedule and he wasn’t getting proper sleep. MIL keeps worrying about him sleeping, and she’s constantly waking him during the day. I think she should let him nap as he wishes - surely that’s affecting his poor brain… Bot that we can tell her anything when she makes up her mind.

Anyway, the worst is almost done. Their car has been inspected and we should get it back Moanday if they can get a replacement headlight switch unit. But that’s for next week.

SuperSoaker!!! Tho that’s not the best idea indoors, is it??

Technically, they’ll unpack. We just need to dump the crap to be unpacked in their apartment. Then we’ll retrieve the boxes and paper after they’re done.

The only negative thing MIL has said regards their main window facing the parking lot - she’s concerned about headlights shining into the living room at night. I don’t think it’ll be that huge a deal, but, um, curtains?? So we shall see/

FCD just left. As soon as I post this, BIL and I will load the pickup and head out. And so it begins to end.

Happy Saturday!!!

The thing would not land. It zoomed along at about 100 mph and would.not.stop. It finally landed on the screen where I could drench it with fly spray.

It’s kinda sunny N.O.S and my only plan is riding. I am at the horrible stage of boredom where fe no activity appeals to me. This is when I typically buy a bunch of junk food and watch endless reruns of The Big Bang Theory.

Good morning.

It’s currently 51 degrees and slightly cloudy, but temps are supposed to reach the mid-70s and we’ll have sunny skies. There is no rain on the horizon, damn it.

I had to fiddle-fart around with my computer this morning because the Windows update I scheduled to run at 9:00 last night was still going this morning. Everything was super slow. Once the update was completed, I had to reset my modem and router because the internet was so damn slow. Maybe that’s why the stinkin’ update took so long. I dunno; there’s lots of bloatware on this computer, that could have slowed things down too. At any rate, it’s done, but I feel like it was wasted time in the sense that I lost my self-sanctioned goof-off time.

FCM, I hope things go smoothly and quickly for you today. I hope that when you and FCD get home, you can literally unplug from the world and just enjoy some peace and quiet and time to yourselves. I think my very last nerve would have been shredded and ready to completely snap at this point if it were me in your place.

Paintcharge, I LOVE the smell of freshly sawn or cut wood. There is something about it that just soothes me. I wish I had the skills, time, and tools to do what you do. I would love to create things.

I pretty much go with a jacket and not a winter coat too, but as has been mentioned, our winters are mostly mild compared to other areas. We have our cold spells, and I can remember many Halloweens with the kids when being out in a jacket was a mistake because temps dipped into the teens. Halloween memories; every Halloween it either rained or the temps were ridiculously cold. There were the bonus Halloweens when sleet was falling too. I have heavier coats for mountain wear.

I need to finish my coffee, hop in the shower, and hit the store. We need to be at the kids’ place early afternoon, so I need to take care of some stuff before we go. I need to buy some gift bags and a card. I completely spaced on that when I bought the birthday gifts for my grandson. On top of that, I need to make a stop at HomeGoods. I need a night table/stand for the guest room and I’m not about to spend several hundred dollars on one. I just need something I can put a lamp on that offers space for people to plug in their cell phones to recharge.

On with the day! I hope you all have a great one!

I’m up way too early (by my 2nd-shift standards) especially considering it’s my “Long Night” shift tonight (won’t drag myself home till sometime after 2, maybe 2:30 am) but it was ridiculously sunny when I got up for some water, and that’s gotten me all awake.

Have gathered up some trash, but have much more filth to bag up. Have chased one wolf from my door (e.g. paid gas bill) but still need to make a grocery store run since I only have a roll or two of T.P left.
I like to live dangerously, and also, have limited storage.

Monkey has been given a new, Halloween-themed catnip mousie and is currently working off the zoomies, going in&out&in&out endlessly through the open side door, while I heat up the whole neighborhood. He also got gooshy-food a bit ago, so don’t let him lie to you about not being spoiled rotten. :black_cat:

Gonna close the door soon, click the heat up, and take a well-deserved shower. I guess I’m up for the day anyway.

… and while I was yakking away at y’all, the sun was hidden and it’s overcast. Perfect lighting for a bit of cross-stitch: natural white sunlight that’s not too blindingly bright. I may have to sit for a bit - I’m almost to the very last color on my rainbow spiral project!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 14c/58f here and partly cloudy, which explains why I’ve been driving around with sunglasses on 'cos it’s too bright for my poorly eyes. Weather app says “What the fuck am I supposed to say about days like today? It’s fucking decent outside”…and that’s true, it’s been dry and sunny all day, one of those perfect autumn days that are meant for long walks instead of what I’ve been doing.

Up reasonably early for the gym today so I had plenty of time to sort the cats out before I left the house. Came back via the pet shop to get a couple of large bags of cat litter, and some urinary biscuits for Shadow. Back to find they were apparently all dying of starvation, they’d used all the litter trays, and even Spare Cat had come to join the protests about the lack of food! Once they’d been placated, I had a cup of tea and then went for a shower before getting some lunch, by which time the cats had decided they were starving, again.

Been a busy afternoon too, I had to go into town to do some errands so I parked at the nearest supermarket (3hrs free parking!), walked into town from there which takes all of five minutes, errands were done, then I went to my doc’s surgery to get my flu shot and covid booster. Now been shot in each arm, and so far it’s the flu shot site that is sore. The covid one is fine, the flu side is a little red and sore.

Once that was all done, I walked across town back to the supermarket and nipped in to get a couple of things including some fancy food for Ophelia as we are running low on some of it and the pet shop didn’t stock the stuff she really likes. Home again, cup of tea and I treated myself to a raspberry bakewell tart.

Now all I have to do is feed the ravening hordes again (Spare Cat has literally just walked into the room as I’m typing), make myself something for dinner, and then I am off out to see a band at our local rock pub. Alone time is going pretty well so far! I have no plans for tomorrow, everything depends on how I feel after the jabs. There’s a 10am spin class that still has space on it, I might book on that in the morning if I feel like it, otherwise I may settle for making lunches for my campus days, and having a day of general slothage.

Swampy your crab cake breakfast sounds yummy, I wish I could get something like that over here. Much more interesting than the banana I had before the gym!

Happy Saturday!

It’s nippy outside. I stayed in bed this morning.
My head hurt, my stomach hurt, my knee hurts. I’m tired.
I have stuff to do, and managed to wash two loads of clothes before 9.
After I got the washer started.
I turned it off and then turned it back on and it worked.

Drama at the dog park.
Everybody but two went on the small side to avoid Barky and Humpy.
When those two left, Barky and Humpy went on the small side too.
Now everybody is talking about going to the county park instead.
It’s further away, has no water fountain, no pavilion, no trees, one picnic table, and actually closes so you can’t get in until somebody gets there to unlock the gates. That somebody isn’t always on time Some of our morning group don’t drive, so we would lose them.
I wish I had the rudeness to call Barky/Humpy mom and say please stop coming, you have been voted off the island.
But, you can’t kick somebody out of a public place anyway.
Coco dad said I’m not allowed to stay home anymore, if I’m there Barky/Humpy will stay on the big side with me.

Unless I’m going to the park, I don’t wear a coat. From the house to the truck and the truck to wherever I’m going, I’m not outside long enough to bother.
I think we should get some freezer strip curtains for the pavilion. Except the dogs would probably play with them and destroy them.

I agree that Swampy’s breakfast sounds yummy, except being from Maryland, I am very suspicious of crab cakes in other states.
Even In MD you have to be careful. I read about a restaurant in Baltimore that was putting ::shudder:: pineapple in their crabcakes. They called it Hawaiian fusion. I called it a sin.

My son just woke up to tell me there is a leak in the basement. He suspects one of the pipes, but is not sure exactly where the drip is coming from.
Right now, I just don’t have enough cares left to care.

sari :people_hugging:

thanks
