Our wills should be simple. We have a few assets, 2 liabilities, one daughter, and one granddaughter. We’ll get powers of attorney and I need to find out what has to be done to give my lifeless carcass to a medical school.
Just found out I’m going to be a (step) great grandfather for the first time. My oldest boy’s stepdaughter is about six weeks along.
Fall is trying hard to force its way in the door here in the PNW. Last gasp for summer will likely be in the next few days with us hitting the 80s one more time.
All the work in the basement is finally finished. Now we get to start sorting through all the crap down there and getting rid of “stuff”. I’ve been nagging the Ms for eleven years and I think she’s finally ready to give in. We’re too old to be having a bunch of crap sitting in boxes, especially when we haven’t seen it in at least that many years.
Here it is. I have a dim memory that you live in Arkansas. If not, any state should have easily searchable information googleable as “Anatomical donation+StateXYZ”.
It’s always easier on the family if the person fills out and signs the papers well in advance and informs all concerned of their wishes.
Both of my parents donated their bodies and both of my in laws as well. Both families derived peace and comfort from the decisions. All 4 chose to be buried (their ashes, done at the Medicals’ expense) in specially consecrated plots at the end of their donation. Every year the Schools of Medicine offer a moving memorial service in honor of the gifts families made and the families are invited.
It is a fine thing you do. My thanks. Generations to follow will thank you also.
I took Nelson with me to do the pick up in the 'Boro. It was a good deal as advertised, but the seller added an extra bag that had platforms and plates for one of my manual die cutters.
By themselves, they were worth more than the $25 I paid for the lot. There was also a duplicate of one of the stamp sets that have never been opened. I’ll be able to get $10 from that easily. All in all, a very good deal.
The Chang cabbage cups, cuke salad and hot and sour soup were yum!
No, but I’ll leave you any cammo curtains that happen to be in the house upon my demise…
Boo - Merrylande has a form for donation but I figured since we’re paying the lawyer, she can make sure I do it right. It’ll be my chance to go to Johns Hopkins! Altho I did go to a frat party there back in '73. It sucked, but I won’t hold that against the university.
And the weekend winds down. I’m thinking tomorrow I’ll start on the dining room chairs. It’ll take a few hours to disassemble them, clean them, and wipe them down with Old English. That should keep me out of trouble for a while.
BTW, anyone bored and wanting to see some cool videos - FCD and I have been watching some neat domino knock-down videos.
Howdy Y’all! The biiiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can got drug all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. We went through both fridges and got rid of some ummm… Science experiments, as well. Hopefully none of them will become sentient and crawl their way out before pickup.
Crap! I broke my French press carafe doing dishes after supper. Da Jungle will have one on my doorstep (and yes, after an email that would do bobbio proud, it comes to my home, not the next building) Tuesday. Good thing I have a number of ways to make coffee.
It must have been the weekend for critters waking Mumpers up. I was awakened with a wet willie from a small dog this morning.
I put olive oil on two mahi mahi fillets, then added my homemade Cajun rub. I oiled up some asparagus and sprinkled them with kosher salt. I cooked everything on the barbie. Yum.
Dang! I wasn’t even close. The main advantage to pulling the donation forms and filling them out yourself is that you won’t be paying a steep hourly lawyers fee. In most states they’ve prioritize making it extra easy so more people will do it. In a few states ((mine for instance) the papers have to be signed by the donor, a next of kin can’t do it. Only 2 witnesses are needed, doesn’t need to be notarized. It’s a two page form you can print out. Again, easier than my Nebraska process. Maryland is one of the states where the donor has to sign, next of kin can’t.
Again FCM, good on you (and hopefully FCD). Meet you in the great here after. Hopefully we’ll end up in the same Zipcode in the sky.
Evening all. Watched tackleball and read most of the afternoon, went to Cracker Barrel for an early dinner (I still think they have the best deal for money–I got a hamburger steak, fries, salad, two biscuits and sweet tea and water (with refills) for $11.64 (not including tip). How many places can you have a sit-down meal for that price?).
Anyway, got a couple e-mails off and made up the weekly schedule, tomorrow is paying the property tax and coaching soccer…if the predicted T-boomers hold off. We shall see.
All y’all take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.
Very funny. My housemate was born and raised in Texarkana. I have a real clear idea of those standards. Her cooking does make me wanna head down your way though.
Damn! I hate it when that happens. I finally got tired of replacing Chemexes and switched over to French presses. I found some unbreakable ones on da jungle which usually survive my dishwashing. Even have an all metal one for camping and travel.
Boo, who had a lovely day with Harriet, even though the little Heiress grabbed my gluten free wedding cookie off my plate at our ‘tea party’. She got the whole thing in her mouth before I could snatch it back. It was the triumphant gleam in her eyes that was the most intimidating. Just like her mother, I will never mess with her or stand between her and something she wants, even if it is my cookie.
My tummy is still crummy. I made soup and ate some, but it’s not sitting too well. Maybe I just need a good night’s sleep.
Maybe you were thinking of Beck?
MetalMouse, I’ve only been to Cracker Barrel once, in Iowa. I had a BLT. It was smallish, nothing special, with a side of…air. But I’ve heard so many raves about their food that I have to believe my experience was atypical.
Most likely. Things can get a little vague for me on the far side of the Mississippi.
Thanks for the redirection. Obviously I need to get out there and visit both of them in their natural habitat to set myself straight.
DANG. Just now there was frantic pounding on my door. I ran without even thinking of masking up. It was the woman across the hall. She was not masked up either, and she didn’t stay 6 feet away. She said her daughter clipped the quick of their dog’s claws, there was lots of blood, and did I have superglue? I ran and got some. Now I’m thinking if there’s lots of blood, superglue doesn’t seem like the way to go, but what do I know? Hopefully the dog is OK. These are people who seldom seem to mask and have social gatherings, so I hope I’m OK.
So, remember I told you in the last MMP that I met somebody on-line and we met for breakfast last week? We met again yesterday for lunch and it went well. He has to go out of town for a couple of days but we’re making plans for dinner when he gets back.
I told a couple of my friends about him and they’ve threatened to post on his FB page that he’d better be good to me or they’ll kick his ass. I think I can trust them not to do that (the posting that is – they would do the ass kicking!).
He likes amusement parks so I told him about my beloved Knoebels and asked if he’d be interested in meeting me there when I go in a couple of weeks. He’s interested, if his schedule permits. Now the big question is – do I book a second motel room or buy a box of condoms?? (I’m kidding, Mumpers!!! There’s been no suggestion of anything inappropriate.)
I’m starting to think that something good may finally come out of this phenomenally craptastic year.
This is why I have an insulated metal one- I realised I had to use it pre-caffeine in the mornings.
Yaay!
Boo!
Anyway, it’s clearly Moanday here, I just didn’t have time to start a new MMP before heading off to the madhouse. Someone else can have the responsibility.
