Jan 6 NYC Dopefest: Official Countdown(Linked! Don't Delete!)

Hama,

AMTRAK from DC comes into Penn Station, doesn't it?

I’ll be taking the commuter rail (LIRR) in, myself. Should you want, I can meet you at the gate. We can then walk downtown, if it is nice, or go back down to the subway.

Bear in mind I probably should be one of those getting therapy...:)

**

I think I have to recheck the definition of "shy"....

Cajun Man and I regret that we will not be able to attend the Dope Fest. :frowning:

We have to go to Louisiana for a family matter.

Wow! Now that’s an organized trip. Count me definitely in on the museum tour, and a maybe on the festival.

Billdo, please e-mail me directions to your apartment!!

My friend Gladys canceled, so it’s just me. I’ve been wondering how the hell I’m going to find the 1 train, how the hell I’m going to find Chumley’s, and what the hell I’m gonna do in NYC for two hours by mself after dark.

So I’m there. I think. I just have to check the bus schedule. I may have a line on some discount bus fare, in which case my plans might change. I’ll know for sure tomorrow.

Ok, so how do I get from Port Authority to West 72nd street? I need train numbers. Do I buzzzz like on Seinfeld? Will you be waiting downstairs?

Will you have Dorito’s? Nacho Cheese?

I’m all done for now.

Keep me updated, buddy.

Oh yeah - I’m only 19, but I look older and whould have no trouble getting served if they don’t card (and since I’ll be with all you old geezers, I’m guessing they won’t.)

And Biggirl, party at your house? I got dibs on the sofa!!!

Nacho, and anyone else coming in to Port Authority or Penn Station from out of town, I’ll be in the city that morning anyway taking care of some business, and I have to go to Port Authority to buy bus tickets myself for the next week, so I’ll be more than happy to arrange for myself to be there upon your arrival if you feel safer that way in getting to the right trains. Email me, or just post if it’s easier to let me know.
I do plan on making the museum tour.

Cajun Man, Dr. Matrix, It’s too bad you can’t make it, Congratulations, hope all is well.

I’m kinda undecided as to whether I’m coming or not. I’ll update ya’ll in a few days and I’ll see whether I can do this. I’ve always wanted to go to a really large gathering, and it’s been years since I’ve wandered around NYC.

I’m attempting to arrange transit [sub]hey, swiddles, check your mail…[/sub] and I think I’ll be there.

Ooohers.

We’ll be taking Amtrak up from Union Station in DC

Just got my tickets… $380 for 3 people round trip.
We leave from Union station at 11:05am on train 80-something. 84, maybe?

Anyone up for going to the zoo on the 7th? Either the one in central park or the bronx zoo?

YAY, a very kind person on here sent me a very long, involved, detailed explanation of what to do once I managed to get to Penn Station. Here’s the thing: Okay, wait, here’re the things:

A) many lovely people have offered floor/couch/armchair/closet space for sleeping…but it’s hard to tell who’s offering what and I don’t know if anyone has any floor space left. Oy? Help?

B) It looks as though I’m buying a plane ticket and flying in to LaGuardia around, say, 11:00am. How in God’s name do I get from the airport to Penn Station without giving my firstborn to a cab company?

C) Who won’t hate me by the time I get there because I’m so whiny?

Here’s the thing. I don’t have a ticket yet, but I know I can get one. I’m driving to DC on Saturday morning, come hell or high water. However, if anyone in the DC area wants company for a drive up, I am willing to drive up to DC on Friday night and carpool with someone.

My plans are so far up in the air they’re about to die of oxygen deprivation.

I have become VERY poor at planning things like this since I became a hermit.

I throw myself on the mercy of the court.

Pucette and I still have room left, since no one has taken us up on our floor space yet. We live about 30 blocks north of Billdo’s place, so it is extremely accessible from anywhere in Manhattan. Feel free to crash if you like,

MR

Easy. I live 10 minutes from LaGuardia by car/cab, and there’s a bus that goes from LaGuardia into the city, but also stops by many subway stations, First one being the N train wich goes to 34th Street/Manhattan Mall, one block from Penn Station. Easier to just take a cab, might cost anywhere from $17-$25 to get to Penn station from there though. Would cost about the same to head straight to Billdo’s place from the airport actually.

Me.

I don’t know how I got it, but I have impetigo. As anyone who is familiar with it is aware, it isn’t a pleasant sight to look at. I am on HEAVY antibiotics and topical stuff, but I don’t know if I’ll be up to driving down there and being seen by many people.

It’s a shame, I have many stories for you guys. Feh. I’m hoping it’ll clear up, I was really looking forward to this.

Feel better soon Swiddles! I’m sending positive vibes northwards for you!

Billdo asked me to look into alternative places a) in case Chumley’s can’t hold us and b) for afterward.

I have to say that offhand, I don’t really know of anyplace in the area that can handle 50 drunken dopers, let alone 50 drunken dopers above and beyond their normal clientele. But I’ll keep looking.

The only place I can think of right now with that kind of size is the Village Idiot. It’s kind of fun, in a slumming kind of way, but very smoky and more than a little rowdy.

I’ll keep my eyes open.

I very definitely would like to do this, but I’m still a maybe. Certainly a no for museum stuff. A very definitely maybe for dinner though.

Is there any floor space left anywhere that a young man could stretch out upon?
jb

Hama, the best way to go (most convient and not expensive) IMO is to just jump on Amtrak. The station is just off Parham on Staples Mill. There’s an 8:25 am train (which I’ll take if things work out) that gets you there at 2:15pm. It’s a six hour ride and you’re in Penn Station. Then you just hop on the subway. Train ticket up there and back is 77 bucks - each way. Tho I usually get a $10-20 dollar discount with AAA.

Um… it’s a lot shorter than 6 hours… more like 3

We’re taking train 86 I believe it is… from DC to NY

Yes it’s 86
leaves DC 1/6/01 11:05AM
arrives NY 1/6/01 2:15PM

If you decide to take that train, we can meet at Union Station and go together  We’re gona get there early and eat lunch at Union Station.
