Jan 6 NYC Dopefest: Official Countdown(Linked! Don't Delete!)

Let’s just say that if you don’t, detention could be involved.

Tripler
15 minutes, and I’m off to the east coast. Yippee!

Wait, detention with you? Maybe I should fail…

Have a safe trip, hon!!! hugs and a smooch

<hosing off Tripler and Falcon with a firehose>
Now then.

Hmmm, I’m always up for a trip to the Met. Is that a definite yet?

<hijack>

sorry but I gotta

umm…olie da goalie looked like crap tonight

ok i feel better now

</hijack>

This has dropped to the second page? I don’t think so!

Well I’m bumping it to give a bit of news. BeerChick and BitterSpice (do ya’ll remember them?) have been reading this thread over my shoulder at work. Consider them definite maybes.

I will again offer my couch and floor. I have a cat. My place is always a mess, but there’s always a space. So long as you’re not The Ryan or BeerUser (see GD).

It’s been so long since this particular Fest was proposed that I can’t remember whether Wonko is Chumley’s cousin or something, and asked him to clear out his bar for us next Saturday night.

But I just thought I’d mention I was having a stroll in the West Village on Thursday evening about 6:45, and decided I’d stop in a good ol’ Chumley’s and order a pint. Haven’t been there in over a year, and wanted to see if they’d changed the jukebox. (All right, I wanted to scribble Falcon’s phone number in a men’s room stall)

Well, at 6:45 on a Thursday, it was so packed you couldn’t get near the bar.

Not trying to poop the party, but I figured it was a fact worth bringing to the table.

Ike! I made reservations! Should be ok!

Ah! Gotcha. Okay, sorry for the pessimistic hijack. Carry on.

…I could show up early and wear a fedora and a zucchini in my side pocket and glower menacingly at any non-Doper who shows up at the door…frighten the fuckers away…whaddaya think?

Those of us who attended the Rochester meeting last October could tell you how well reservations work out. On the other hand, I suppose if a few dozen of us show up they’ll have a hard time keeping us out. We’ll be like a gang of biker nerds taking over the whole bar.

Anyway, has a meeting time and place been set up for those of us on the museum tour?

I finally got in touch with my Godfather, and it’s a go. Now I just have to find a Swiddlefriend to join me, and life will be perfect. Momma’s a little too broke to justify the gas money alone.

Not that I doubt that we’ll be able to fit in the bar, but may I suggest that we develop a back-up plan? Some dive that no one would be caught dead in on a Saturday night that we can fill if need be? And for the record, are we eating at Chumley’s or just boozing it up? A girl must be prepared.

Chumley’s has yummy eats! I’m chowing there! If the whole thing falls through, we could go to the Peculiar Pub on Bleecker (sp?) St. It’s not too far, but let’s hope there are no problems.

Anyplace in NYC that isn’t filled up on a Saturday night AND offers beer? Good luck!

I’m eating, don’t know 'bout the rest of ya, but I’m eating.
What exactly must a girl prepare in either case? I must know, I need to prepare…

Well, if we were only boozing, I’d eat before I arrived. If we were eating and then boozing, I’d make sure to not eat, as to foster a healthy appitite.

And now, with that fabulously interesting addition to Chaos At Chumley’s, I bid you all a Happy New Year. Avoid Dick Clark. He’s evil, I tell you. Evil.

Ahh yes the Peculiar Pub mecca to goats fans

Today’s News Update

Sorry for the interruption on the updates, gang, but I’ve had some things that distracted me.

We’ve had a few more maybes, including Silo, BitterSpice, BeerChick, and smackfu (who asked about the museum tour, but didn’t mention he could make the dopefest). Slowhand53 has made a job change that will, unfortunately, prevent him from attending.

We’ve also had MerrySquirrels change her username to Pucette, taking care of that alphabetic hole. We are still missing usernames with beginning with the letters E, I, K, Q, X, & Y.

I’m also thinking of hosting a simple bagel brunch at my apartment on Sunday for our out-of- town guests and anyone else who can move by that time. Let me know what you guys think.

Museum Tour Update:

We will be visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday Afternoon. There’ll be two places to meet, either at the museum or at my apartment.

Those who wish to meet at my apartment (on West 72nd Street) will meet at 1:00 p.m. (please be prompt). If you have luggage you want to leave at my place, you can feel free to. From my apartment, we will walk across Central Part to the museum, seeing some of the landmarks of the Park. We will pass the Dakota (on 72nd just outside the Park, as mentioned above), Strawberry Fields, the Delacorte Fountain, the rowboat pond, the Boathouse, the model boat pond (the one sailed on by Stuart Little, though drained for the winter), the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and the site of the Preppy Murder.

At about 1:30, we should get to the Metropolitan, where we will meet those who have gone directly to the museum. (Let’s meet at the top of the main steps, just to the left of the doors.) Recommended adult admission to the museum is $10.00, but you are free to contribute what you wish for admission.

In the museum, those who wish to may split up and explore the treasures of the collections they have. For those who would like to, I will be leading a group around some of my favorite parts of the museum, including (most likely) the Egyptian Wing, the Temple of Dendur, the Costume Institute, the American Wing, Arms and Armor, and Japanese Art.

At about 4:30, we will all meet up in the Great Hall (to the right of the inside of the main doors), at which time those who want to search out Forbidden Planet or other bookstores can go downtown, and those who would like can come across the park to my apartment for some quick munchies before dinner. (We’ll take the bus across this time, so please bring $1.50 in change if you don’t have a token or MetroCard.) From my place we’ll take the subway down to Chumley’s.

Happy New Year, all.

Okay. {deep breath}

Read the whoooooooole thread (and boy, do some of y’all need therapy).

Desperately want to go.

Don’t know:

A) how the hell I’m going to get there
B) where the hell I’m going to sleep
C) how the hell much money I should bring
D) how the hell to solve any of these problems.

I’d be coming from Richmond, VA. The train may be an option, but I don’t know my way around NYC and those of you who know will understand that the idea of navigating a city I don’t know all by myself freaks me out a little bit.

Ideas? Suggestions for the terminally shy? Current functional email is ianna@bellatlantic.net

Willing to pay for gas…or eats. Sexual favors can be supplied in trade, but I pick the flavor of the syrup.

Well, as much as I woud love to complete your alphabet. I will not be able to attend as I’m not really allowed to go out of the house except to either work or buy cigarettes.

Hey, tell the ol’ Ball and Chain you need to cross the state lines for some of those great NY deals on smokes.

(Pataki and his Albany Bastards raised the prices AGAIN, just after Christmas…$4.75 a pack now in Brooklyn. I assume the silk stocking districts in Manhattan are now asking well over five bucks.)

If this fails, I’ll just have to put on all my clothing backwards and go as Eleluku Eki.

Great! Count me in as there by 1pm, top of the steps, left of the doors, most likely munching on a hot dog or something…
