First of all, Eve, I’m sorry I posed a question that would elicit a response as thoughtless and cruel as JerseyDiamond’shttp://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=173009 (on page 6, I believe). I had no clue as to the depth of her shallowness. She’s a pathetic example of a human being with the common decency of pig.
Secondly, Joe_Cool, you are a mean-spirited, narrow-minded lout. You two would be wise to give up the christianity thing, as it is obviously lost on you.
I’m not very good at handing someone their ass, even when it is so clearly deserved. I’m hoping someone more pit-savvy than myself will take the wheel and drive this rant home.
I didn’t read the thread in its entirety but I did read the post to which Des linked. What’s so bad about that? Although I don’t espouse her views, I don’t see anything pit-worthy there, either.

The part I’m objecting to is Jersey’s post of 11:37 pm. She clearly doesn’t give a rat’s ass about anyone’s feelings. She’s just being HONEST. A GOOD, HONEST, CHRISTIAN.:rolleyes:
Well, she’s a heartless beast and doesn’t deserve to keep company with civil society. I’m up to here with the hiding behind the bible and telling it like it is, at the expense of someone who was simply trying to answer well-intentioned questions.
This is going to go the same way all the Jersey/Joe threads end up going. Jersey comes in all wide eyed and blinking proclaiming that even though she openly insults someone she doesn’t mean it in a mean way and GOSH! isn’t she allowed to have an opinion? Then Joe will come in and defend his wife with decidedly UN Christian vitriol and swearing, then one of them will accidentally post as the other, post again to say “Oh, that was me, not her”, and there will be much rolling of eyes.
While JD’s cruel comment to Eve was completely disgusting, it was not unexpected. C’mon, has she ever posted anything that was constructive or kind to anyone here? Her idea of posting is to say hateful things then to draw back in outraged hauteur when she is called on it, using the old “don’t blame me, I’m just quoting the Bible” dodge.
I make two predictions:
Joe_Cool is going to come in here and attack the OP for making an unprovoked attack on his poor, defenseless darling and blame every other poster for twisting JD’s words. Count on lots of swearing and threats.
2)JD will complain that she was just being honest and it is everyone else’s fault for being so sensitive and politically correct. Then she will say that she won’t post anymore because her comments are being used ever so cruelly against her.
See, the thing you have to understand about those two is that they are never wrong. Ever. They have the Light of Christ [sup]TM[/sup] to illuminate their posts, so that if their comments are perceived to be cruel, bigoted, or hateful, why then it’s the fault of other posters that their comments cause such commotion.
If the Better Half found out that I was genetically male, I like to think that he’d accept me as “My Partner Ducky” no matter what combination of chromosomes I had. And if I found out that he was genetically female–say that I didn’t know what a penile implant was, and anyway we were doing it under the covers in the dark–I’d still accept him for what he was. “Oh. Well, huh. That’s interesting,” I’d say, with kind of a blank look. But it wouldn’t change our lives together.
I’m sorry, I have to ask…wouldn’t it bother you that your entire relationship would have been founded on one of the biggest pretences it is possible to make?
I was floored by that as well. What sort of a monster would kick their spouse to the curb over the results of a genetic test? What kind of a weirdo marries for chromosomes? It seemed clear from the thread that this applied not only to transsexuals, but to intersexed individuals and people with rare genetic conditions, so anger over being “deceived” isn’t even a justification. It sickens me to think that there are people out there who would declare a woman with XY chromosomes an unwoman and demand a divorce once they learned “the truth”.
What could such a woman hope to do if she has the body of a woman but no one will accept her as such since she has the chromosomes of a man? I mean, gay men aren’t going to be interested in a “man” who’s externally female in every way, nor are straight women. Perhaps there are lesbians who could overlook her horrible, yet strangely invisible, “abnormality”, but that wouldn’t do the poor woman much good if she were only attracted to men.
Apparently Joe_Cool and JerseyDiamond think anyone whose chromosomes don’t match up with their external appearance in the most common way deserves to live a sad, lonely, loveless life. Such people are behaving in a despicable immoral manner if they hide their “dark secret” from potential partners, but in J_C and JD’s world all potential partners would immediately, and sensibly, reject them once the truth were revealed. And yet they claim they don’t wish these people to commit suicide. Right.
