Johnny Bravo's First Mafia Game Watch-Along Thread NO SPOILERS! [FORBIDDEN TO LIVE PLAYERS]

Oh, don’t think that! The smarter the game, the more opportunity for slips.

I have a question I’ve been thinking about for some time: Have you been thinking of shorter, in-between or during games in a different format? I know you’ve tried The Resistance… I think there could be potential in one day games or the like, but maybe done as a consequential thread.

Welcome, PCM!

well hello, just one joining here today, which is a good thing for town.
Possible scenarios for only one death

  1. The vigilante was a one shot
  2. the vigilante had a choice
  3. the vig and the wolves both decided to kill me
  4. The vig killed me and my night protection saved someone from a wolf kill
  5. the wolves killed me and my night protection saved someone from the vig kill.

If 4 , then that would help confirm a town person, except , the only person who knows who was protected is me, who is dead.
Oh well

I wonder if the wolves saw my certainty of the prof being scum and the prof turning up dead as indication I was the vig? Really should have thought that one through more , but I thought I was under the radar and no one really listening to me , so I would be left alone by the wolves, if it was them who killed me.

I guess it would be considered a spoiler for you to tell us who you protected.

Thou hast given the Wolves far too much credit.

Hey prof, how’s it going?

It sucks. I can’t really comment in this thread without giving away a spoiler. OTOH, your game (well, at least your posting) showed marked improvement over the 1st one.

When you’re playing a game like this face-to-face, you have the ability to read body language, judge tone, and so on. The games also, obviously, move a lot more quickly.

Forum play trades that in exchange for the ability to take more time to analyze, and the creation of an indelible record that can be referenced in its entirety through the entire game.

I personally prefer a slower paced game because it provides more room for the moderator to do cool things with the format.

Also, a fast game means a lot more work for the moderator, so that’s a personal decision. I think the general Dope Mafia culture is for a more deliberate pace, though.

Yeah can’t really say who I protected when, it is abstract info, but could be used to draw conclusions about people.

Maybe, but YOU are Town. You don’t know who the wolves are; you’re still just guessing. If you told who you were protecting, that would simply be an indication of who you thought was Town. (Unless, of course, you were trying to protect a Wolf for some odd reason.)

More time using a laptop , and less time posting on tapatalk, when in airports, hotels and cross country journeys and the like. I really probably should not have played the last game as I was in the middle of moving from Utah to Texas combined with a pretty hectic business travel schedule. Knocking out the occasional thought combined with the small screen space is not conducive to well structured posts.

Right but if there is one missing kill, and the missing kill was from the wolves, it would confirm that person targeted by me as town.
Barring redirect roles.
If we didn’t have a vig and there was only a wolf kill, if there is no kill that night the doc would know for sure their target was town.

We don’t know if you have a vig, or if it’s a Psychotic Gun Owner who kills the first person who comes across him in the night, or some other strange power role. While I am obviously happy (as a Wolf) that the Town Doctor was killed in the night, I do hope my fellow Wolves will avenge me.

If there was no missing kill last night , I would be less reticent, however at this point there is a possibility there is a missing kill, and knowing who I protected is information not available in the game which could be used to infer, rightly or wrongly, something about the person I protected.

All right, that makes sense to me.

I know you know this, but just to be clear: keep it to yourself, PCM. It’s better to not post, if you’re unsure. Prof. Pepperwinkle, I was in the same situation last game. It’s better to stay away than to spoil, in my opinion.

Yes, and I agree. I like the format and the pace here, I was more thinking of shorter games, not mafia in general. Games or variations, like The Resistance or One Night Ultimate Werewolf, only converted to a fast paced thread game. Have you guys tried Spyfall? It is not a mafia game, more like the inverse. There is only one spy, and the spy is blind and knows absolutely nothing. The spy has to find out where he/she is by putting together a picture via what town says. Many mechanics would have to be altered, but I think it could be modified for forum play.

I’d play that.

I personally hated playing The Resistance here on the Dope, but enough people liked it that a second game was run. It might be worth trying again.
