If I recall correctly, The Resistance on the SDMB didn’t work so well. The game is meant to be fast paced, but online it had to move at a crawl with large portions devoted to waiting on a single player to message a mission proposal.
There was also a huge disincentive to voting down missions. Doing so meant at least another full day of the game. I think very few missions were voted down so the Resistance never really had a chance.
This reads so scummy to me. There’s exactly zero chance a scum team composed of (presumably) 3 remaining members collectively ALL forgot to submit a kill, any kill, during the three-day Night period. It’s so impossible, it’s not worth speculating about. If there’s one kill, the odds are it’s the scum kill. This is questioning for the sake of looking like you’re questioning things.
Anyone else think BioTop maybe overdoing it with the whole
‘help me out here experienced players’ and pushing on the idea that scum must have found out my role.
Trying to distract from DanteG ?
Obviously I am looking at this through the lenses of believing DanteG is scum, and I certainly could be wrong on that.
Octarine seams to want things both ways, trying to get on record that she (?) thinks DanteG
doesn’t look good, yet still significantly softens their position on DanteG by giving him the benefit of the doubt. Yet then finishes up the post with again stating it doesn’t look good.
I remember the games. I read them live. I had some thoughts on why they went a bit wrong, but I can’t remember why. Amount of scum had something to do with it. I never posted it, shyness and all. I’ll go back and read them again when I have time. I have played a lot of The Resistance with a core group, and while you have much to read visually, a lot comes down to how a person is acting and why they are saying what they are. Presentation and reasoning. Those two characteristics are present in both spoken and written language. The difference between written and spoken is how to interpret the information, but when you get familiar with a core of players you’ll be better at interpreting them, no matter if it is via spoken or written medium.
I think SDMB has a great form, or etiquette of playing. It allows for proper reasoning, it(mostly) allows for several play-styles, and it gives people time to formulate their arguments in what ever fashion they want. I don’t want to change that! That’s why I joined two games and hope to join more!
What I was thinking about, was to design/agree upon playing under some rules tailored for short games played on a forum, to play during slow times or during games. Since games goes on for so long, some such like the Prof. might not get his dose. Should we open a needle-room for him?
I agree. I’m looking forward to seeing what **Dante **does toDay.
With Biotop overdoing it, I don’t know… He overdid it last time too. He’s was a good town, in that he was very visible and he made great, constructive posts. It’s a wonder he stayed alive for so long. I think he knows that, which could mean absolutely nothing.
I was reading Mahaloths post 491. Vig first night - doctor, vig and night-kill on same target(PCM) second night? Or just vig and doc at same targets, of course. Long shot, I know. I agree with his conclusion and I agree that scum won’t not kill.
You know what would be a fun game mechanic? Give a Seer the ability to talk to the dead. Maybe they could be restricted to yes/no questions. But that way they could ask a dead Doctor questions about what players were protected.
I ran those games and you are correct that it is a problem, but I did think the second game did go better than the first since the numbers were not so formidable against the Resistance. I think part of the problem in players not voting down missions was simply that most were new to the game and it is a problem with new players in general. The wait time after voting a mission down was a disincentive, though.
I actually had sign-up threads for both another game of the Resistance (though the Avalon variant) and One Night Ultimate Werewolf after those games, but it was after the board had switched to a dedicated forum for thread games and I think several people that would have played just did not see those threads, since they only check the forum when they are actually participating in something. I was about to try again, but these last three mafia games got started and I did not want to try to run simultaneously with them. I will try something again when the mafia games play themselves out. I may even try Mafia de Cuba, which I think sounds interesting, but have never played.
