Kanicbird. Yeah, It's probably pointless, but..

So you’re a Taoist now?

Now THAT is a God I could get behind.

As for Kanicbird’s “healing” of OCD, the only thing I will say is that that it makes as much sense as someone telling me, “Well you KNOW that’s not going to happen, so just don’t do it!” Yeah, thanks.
(Which is really, REALLY funny, because once when I was about 12, one of my obsessions was about religion and hell and stuff. Heh-so talking to someone like Kanicbird would only have made it WORSE!)

Oh Pooh.

Thanks. You now owe me a keyboard. And a vanilla root beer.

You really need to raise you standards. A lot of crazy street preachers who eat their own poo are polite. In fact I consider arguing with the likes of kanickbird to be right up there with arguing with a crazy street preacher who eats his own poo. Personally I think he is one that happens to have an internet connection. I hardly think his tendency to insinuate people are going to burn in everlasting hellfire or that he and only he knows the secret of the universe is terribly polite.

And anyone who thinks it takes a year to read the bible either has never read it or their lips move when they read o n e l e t t e r a t a t i m e…

I would convert to the Fenris plan if I didn’t already follow Crom.

All perfectly fair statements, and sadly, I agree with most of them. But he hasn’t cracked, he hasn’t let loose and started cursing people out, and he hasn’t wavered. If he’s a whackjob, at least he’s a consistent whackjob.

Or they are following a “Read the Bible in a Year” program. Many churches follow this program: they believe one can better understand the Bible if read a little bit at a time and think through each passage.

Maybeso, but he did not say there are year long bible study programs he said it TAKES a year to read the bible or three months “if you really push it”. That means he can’t read or he has never really sat down and read the bible cover to cover. Since he can clearly read that leaves only one option…

As for your admiration of his consistency consider Emerson said “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.”

Point. Depends on which version read, too: admittedly, even though I grew up with the KJV, it takes me longer to read it that the NIV. But I can read the KJV in a week if I had the time.

Wait, Kanicbird is serious??

Huh.

I find it much more entertaining to read Kanicbird’s posts as a sarcastic mockery of stereotypical Christian thought.

And the Catholic Bible has more books than the Protestant versions, and I think the Eastern Orthodox has even more-doesn’t it?

I don’t know about Eastern Orthodox but as for Catholic or Protestant, the King James Version is the same no matter who reads it…

Wrong, actually: It was translated with the full Septuagint+NT (=Orthodox) canon, but is generally published with only the 66 books of the Protestant canon. And some of the people who will scream the loudest about “Catholics adding to the Bible” (an erroneous statement, BTW) swear by their (abridged) KJV.

Care to clear that up a little? I am looking at my copy of the KJV and there is no indication of whether it is a catholic or protestant copy. What should I look for?

If it doesn’t have these books, it’s a protestant bible. They would mostly be located between the Old and New Testaments. They are great reading, IMHO.

Homebrew, did you hit Wikipedia too?

Only cause I’m too lazy to walk over to the bookshelf.

Hee! I just don’t have a catholic bible handy. Heck, I’m not sure right now where my KJV is. We’ve rearranged. I think it’s in a box.

Thanks Juliana and Homebrew. Consider some of my ignorance fought. Learning is fun. I had no idea that all the bibles I had read were protestant. Makes sense though since I grew up around southern baptists. Good thing I am not christian or I would be more embarrassed. Sorry for spouting ignorance, Guin.
