What I can’t wrap my head around about the quake is 8.8 for 90 seconds. That’s a REALLY long quake. The Big Picture (from the Boston Globe) has some pictures that clearly show the impact of the earthquake.
Oh, and SO - great pics of the twins.
Don’t worry too much about the surgery, tarra. My mom has the very beginnings of cataracts. My optometrist (who is excellent) told her that the timing of the surgery should be completely up to her. It’s elective and the timing should depend on your quality of life. If you really want to have both done at the same time, talk to the surgeon about it again. Or see if you can talk to a different surgeon. (Don’t know how much a second opinion would cost, which I imagine is also a factor. ) I know that surgeons who can do other types of surgeries in multiples (knees, wisdom teeth) have different opinions about whether to do all or part. And sometimes it depends on the patient’s general health. FTR: one of the friends I had dinner with last night recently had her cataracts removed. Yet another miracle.
I was going to say something else, but…I forget what.
I understand and appreciate your need to vent. With all that’s going on in your life, I realize it’s important to “give it away in order to let go”. However, I am uncomfortable being the recipient. I’ll happily chat casually with you, but my life is in too much disarray for me to be someone else’s support system. I hope you understand.
Good morning all. I get to be de-heathenated at 3 o’clock today instead of my usual 10:45. I normally would be sleeping in, but I had to work for a few hours this moring, since I was the only one available who knows how to process the cash office.
Anyrose–that sounds good. I might even slide in something about professional help, because it sounds like your HS friend needs it. She may also be spewing to you because you’re “safe”. Not to be harsh, but sometimes people just unload on people whom they consider expendable in RL. IOW, she may never see you again, and she can easily shut off contact, so why not dump? I doubt she’s doing that deliberately. I’ve just been the recipient of such “confidences” in the past (one by a woman whom I listened to for my son’s entire soccer game because she obviously needed it. She now avoids me when she sees in me in public. I know Too Much about her pain. It’s sad. I would never gossip about her pain and I hope she finds her way, but she [I think] feels she showed me too much). I hope that’s not too rambly for you.
Hazel–I am sorry you (and Irishdude) are going through this. All I can suggest is just be there for Irishdude. By that I mean, just take whatever he gives you, good or bad. It may not be fair if he decides to unload his anger onto you, but if you can see it for what it is (IOW not take it personally), you may be a tremendous help to him.
Tarragon–routine maintenance does seem to get more intense as the years add up, no? I am somewhat of a nut about my vision (having a sister go blind-not from cataracts- may be a factor), so I say get rid of the cataracts ASAP. Then again, one must prioritize things and to be brutally honest, I’d take the opinion of an opthamologist over an optician any day. Just my 2 cents.
I am up and have a headache. Sinuses again. I have cleaned the master bath, though and done 2 loads of laundry. TH took #2 son to the Field Museum downtown. I was going to go, but thought a day BY MYSELF would be better rest for me. I was right. They went to see the jewel/mineral exhibit–it’s supposed to be good.
In other news, I had some very weird dreams involving Gilbert & Sullivan, Cape Cod, me at about age 9, landscaping and buying a home. Somehow it all made sense in the dreams…
Hey rosie, I think that sounds good. You were honest and as nice as you could be. Of course, I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes over like a lead balloon.
We just had tacos for lunch. Very tasty and very easy because the already cooked and seasoned ground beef was in the freezer and all I had to do was heat it up!
Last night I had a dream about an old friend of mine. Someone that I never thought would be on fb, but after the dream I looked him up and he was there! I haven’t talked to him in years so I was very excited. He and his wife are good people.
Grocery shopping has been done. That’s all I’ve accomplished today. I’m going to stick a chicken in the rotisserie soon. And I really should do one more load of laundry.
I’ve been to church and run errands and am now about to make some quick bean soup with kielbasa. I’ve been craving this since the last time I went to the cheap but excellent Cajun restaurant and couldn’t get the jambalaya (they were out).
Sounds good, rosie. I wouldn’t be surprised if she takes it personally, but at least you’re being honest with her.
**MBG **- how do you pronounce that - foo-LAY? Is it French?
I’ve got a chickie in the rotisserie and it’s smelling particularly yum. And there’s a head of fresh cauliflower that’s begging to be cooked in bouillion. And a rice-a-roni or noodle-roni or one of them things for the starch side. And maybe carrots. I didn’t feel like cooking but I felt less like going out, so cooking won. I’ll make my daughter clean up.
Thus endeth my weekend. I need a vacation. And chocolate.
Rosie custom titles are sump’n one may do for a (of course) nominal fee. I do believe there’s still a sticky even. I might or might not. Haven’t decided yet. I still like Charter Member. I envision an oil painting of myself in a large, stuffy, formal boardroom. It amuses me.
Thanks so much for the great support, Mumpers! I am going along with the opthamologist, Rigs–I was just surprised, I guess, at the different opinion he had from what the optician said. Will be going to pick out new glasses next week.
SpecialOne, the twins are very good looking! Glad to hear too that they have your trust.
Swampy, my oh my you are on a halo-polishing mission this year. LOL Interesting to read that attending MP is having such a good effect on you–I should probably try some sort of meditation early in the morning too, I think. At any rate, very good on you!
And good on you too, BooFae, for shining up on your halo! Good luck with the Fat Club thing too. LOL I’d totally come to see you, if I were there.
I have a recipe for the blog: Margaret’s Meatloaf
Margaret was the housekeeper of the parents of a high school friend - I thought the recipé sounded yummy enough to share. And I’m sure he shared it on fb because he thinks it’s yummy, too.
2 lbs ground beef
2 eggs
1 cup chili sauce
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground pepper
23 saltines, crushed
1/4 - 1/2 cup dried onion, diced
1/2 cup green pepper, diced
Mix together ground beef, chili sauce, eggs, worcestershire sauce, salt, ground pepper. 20 crushed saltines, onion, and green pepper. Grease a loaf pan (preferably pyrex) and pack mixture into it. Crush last 3 saltines over the top, and smear about 2 tbsp chili sauce/ketchup over the top.
Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
I suppose for the blog, you could edit the first paragraph thusly:
Margaret was the housekeeper of the parents of a high school friend of anyrose, who thought the recipé sounded yummy enough to share and is certain he had shared it on fb because he thinks it’s yummy, too.
