I’d love to be there! One thing, though…I only live a few minutes, by car, from the Citiwalk, and today, my driving priveleges were suspended, for medical reasons (seizures). Can I prevail upon someone to detour and snag me on the way up?
CU soon!

I’d prefer the latter date.
Since Monster asked–and I hadn’t thought about it, I may as well give it a shot.
Anyone out there willing to take a carpooler? I live in Redlands, near San Bernardino. I’m kinda out of the way since I’m both an hour north of San Diego, and also an hour east of Los Angeles. But if anybody is passing through–I would gladly pay my share of the ride.
Either of the two dates in February sound fine. I look forward to seeing some of the men behind the legends!

Well I’ll try to live up to my huge reputation.
I just wanted everyone to know I haven’t forgotten about this. Just giving it some time, that’s all.
It looks like it’s forming up to be Feb. 24th. There should be time to arrange rides and such (I’d like to have as many as possible there).
I’m going to start looking for places to eat there. Where it will be depends on how big the group is and how many people a restaurant can accomodate.
Any more news on this? Any idea on where we’ll be doing this?
It’s going to be at Universal City. I’m going to be looking for places to meet there. If anyone has any suggestions, please let know. I will be posting all the finalized information around the first week of Feb. The date is most likely going to be the 24th, I haven’t seen any requests for the 17th.
Hard Rock Cafe always seems to be a popular choice, at least among the people I hang out with. That being said, it can be too loud to talk (esp. on live band nights), though they do/should have the capacity. (OTOH, they’ll probably tell us to get lost if they’re busy enough.)
Consider this a premptive veto, I guess…
There’s two of us out here in Palm Springs, and I’ll try to bring Robert Downey, Jr. if I run into him. We are new to the SD but would love to come - we might be a bit older than most of you, and one of us has social anxiety, and we’re rarely hip to the scene, but we can be lot of fun. Keep us posted.
My social calendar is completely open at this point, and any excuse to go to LA for the weekend is a welcome one, so I’ll be there, whenever and wherever it is.
If people are still needing rides from San Diego, that can be discussed as well.

I’d like to second the pre-emptive veto of Hard Rock Cafe or really, any place that is loud, crowded, and over-priced. I’m not interested in the decor. I want the conversation with my fellow dopers. Good food is a plus.
Ok, we need to come to agreement to universal studios, I guess. So, I’ll leave it up to Monster to come up with that. But yes, nowhere too expensive, the posters of the SDMB arent millionaires, or none that I know of.
Here is the Universal City web site. Not that it’ll help much (seating capacities aren’t listed), but it may help the flow of ideas a bit.
How about Buca Di Beppo? Great Italian food, served family-style (ie., they serve HUGE portions that are inteded to be shared by everyone). It can get a little loud too, which is one drawback, but with a sizable group, we might be able to get a room to ourselves.
Buca Di Beppo is where we went last time. (Well, the one in Pasadena) It worked amazingly well, people were able to speak to one another, and the waitress was very eager to help us out with everything we needed.
Gladstones is where we had it the last time we were at Universal City. It was a good choice, we had a long table and it wasn’t crazy expensive.
We had the one at the Block at Orange at Cafe Tu Tu Tango. Fun place, and i imagine the one here is close to as fun. Idon’t rememember spending a crazy amount of money there either. So, it might work out for us.
I think these places are all great candidates, and can be equally fun.

Sorry I don’t visit MPSIMS as much these days what with my new job and all. Count me in and add me to any e-mail list going around!
As far as restaurants go - I vote for Target, they have a cafeteria there and afterwards we can all go browse the CD racks and buy The Backstreet Boys’ latest at a discounted price.
Or if we want to be different - how about going to a doughnut shop right after they throw away the day-old doughnuts and eating for free out of the dumpster? Then we can drink whisky out of brown paper bags in an alley and start a fistfight. (The SD Fight Club) I defy any of the other Teeming Millions to top that as being the least pretentious dopefest.
Heh, imagine that, the LA Dopefest being the least pretentious.
Well, let’s see. Here are some of the restaurants they have. I don’t know the seating capacities…I’ll be calling a few that people are interested in to see what they can accomodate.
Tony Roma’s (Mmmm…ribs!)
Jerry’s Famous Deli…always a good place to go, not too expensive but still good food.
Wolfgang Puck…never been here, but I’ve heard it’s good (Any idea what prices are like?)
These were three that caught my mind. I’ve never heard of the other restaurants, but maybe some of you have. Anything you like?
Ok…people that have posted to this thread so far and hopefully are interested…

I’m setting up the e-mail list later tonight. If there’s anyone I forgot, please remind me.
Ooo, me and Cowboy Greg at the same Dopefest. Man, let’s kick some heterosexual ass! Hoo, doggy! I’ll grab monster104, DRY and KKBattousai, and you can pick up all the other hotties that I wouldn’t be interested in.
Will there be girls there, too? Cool - SLUMBER PARTY! Don’t forget your curling irons.
Esprix, feeling wicked…
