Fuck it.
This is what I’m doing today. I might, “might” do laundry. The jury’s still out.

I’m going to go to the market in about half an hour to get stuff for dinner. I’m expecting a roofer to come over with a contract between four and five. I have two nice, fat, rib-eyes that I’m going to cook on the barbie, and I bought some corn on the cob off a truck the other day to go with it. Right now, I’ve just put a load of laundry in the wash.
Damn you Johnny L.A.! I’ve got brisket going in the smoker & you just reminded me that I wanted to get corn to throw in there. Too late now.
(I’ll be eating smoked cheese later, though. :))
Also rehabing my neighbor’s bike & trying to get the ink stain outta my car seat.
Leaffan: Whatta gonna do when they come for you, bad boy?
Canadians get Labor Day off? I did not know that. Oh, wait, you have to spell it Labour? Well, that explains it, then…
I love Cops. It reminds me how normal I am.
Getting drunk on wine alone on Labour Day is about as normal as it comes. Now, if I took off my shirt and went for a drive, I too might end up on cops.
I’m doing nothing today, which is not unlike most other days.
An appropriate article on the NYT this morning about employers who don’t pay earned overtime, doctor time cards and who keep employees’ tips. There are class action suits against Wal-Mart and McDonald’s over this, although it seems to be their subcontractors who are to blame. What sort of low-life keeps an employee’s tip money?
I have the day off, so I’m trying to make progress on some personal projects. Craft projects. I have upcoming craft fairs, so I don’t really have much “free” time (well, it is “free” time in that I’m deciding what to do with it, I suppose.)
I did pretty much nothing yesterday.
Today I got up and went for a run with my son. Then I went down to the Animal Shelter. Evaluated and added 3 new dogs to my Pit Bull University program since all our others were adopted.
Now I am doing nothing again…watching the Giants game, knitting, checking up on message boards.
I’m burning an effigy of Jimmy Hoffa, just like I do every year.
OK, I’m really at work getting ready for a big presentation tomorrow. I hope you guys choke on your steaks (not really, but sort of)
My in-laws are visiting from out of town, plus I’ve got my four-year-old son home, so it’ll be a busy day.
I bought a whole beef tenderloin at Costco yesterday, and spent this morning trimming and butchering it down for the freezer. One $76 tenderloin yields:
Ten 1-1/2" thick filet mignon steaks
One one-pound roast
3/4 pound of small chunks appropriate for shish kebab
3/4 pound of trimmings and bits appropriate for stir-fry
We just ate two of the steaks for our Labor Day barbecue, paired with tater salad and parsleyed carrots. Big thumbs up on the quality of this tenderloin!
All the rest of the beef went into the freezer, which is now quite crammed with meat, as I also bought chicken breasts and lamb chops.
Big news:
I switched to beer and lemonade and put a load of laundry on.
Cops is still way cool. Shirtless dude has no idea how pot plants got in his truck!
Ha Ha!
I SWEAR I remember this episode.
In any event, we started the day with going to the auto parts store to buy Bars Leak for the van. Along with oil. And sealer for the cooling system and charger stuff. Then we went to the gas station and got gas and cigarettes. Then we went to the track and bet on a few races (OTB - not the actual track). Then we went to the bar. We were smart enough (for a change) to buy our food yesterday that we’re grilling today. So now we’re home - the grill is going, the baked potatoes are on it, the mushrooms and onions are sauteeing on the stove, the asparagus is ready to roast, and the steaks are waiting to go on the grill. And we’re drinking Old Style and checking race results on the computer. So far we hit the first race trifecta and I hit a couple of long shots in races 2 - 6. Still waiting on results for the last three. But I’m looking good.
And I worked a little, and did laundry. But that’s neither here nor there.
Labour Weekend means football chez Pipers.
Real football, with three downs and no sissy fair catch rule.
Went to Taylor Field yesterday and saw the Riders edge out the Bombers, 35-30. Lost track of how many times the lead changed during the game. The Riders scored a touchdown to go ahead with 28 seconds on the clock. Bombers rallied yet again and marched down the field. With 4 or 5 seconds on the clock, Bombers QB threw a long pass from the 50 yard line, straight for a receiver in the end zone. Rider player batted it down on the goal line. Riders win! Improve their position to tie for second place in the hyper-competitive West.
Watched bits and pieces of the Argo-Ti-Cat game this afternoon. New Hamilton stadium looks great. Ti-Cats win, 13-12. Kent Austin actually smiles. Ti-Cats now in second place in the East, tied with the Als, at 2-7 records each - their play-off hopes are still alive! It’s been a bad year for eastern teams…)
Now, the Battle for Alberta is on! Esks v. Stamps, in Calgary. One of them will end up in first place in the West, the other tied with the Riders for second place.
Stamps 8, Esks 7, midway through the second quarter.
I’m drinking tea, listening to Thrift Shop on infinite loop, and watching Diana Gabaldon post obscene poetry on Twitter.
This moment of peace brought to me by my husband, who took our preschooler to the playground. Thank Og.
As I have a bad headcold, today I am sleeping a lot, sucking down lots of chicken soup, watching DVD’s, and sucking on ice (sore throat). Alright, maybe not a cold, but something upper respiratory, viral, and involving more mucus than I want to talk about.
I cant even stand watching Cops anymore. Seeing the lowlife, worthless pieces of scum on there makes my blood boil.
Some of the people they arrest are pretty bad, too.
Just put the potatoes and onions on the grill. Will add the burgers in half an hour. Sunny, but cool outside, so we may eat inside.
ETA: plus beer, of course.
