The final four (Dave Mordal, Alonzo Boden, Rich Voss and John Heffron) gave their final performances. I couldn’t tell if they all sucked last night or if it was just a terrible audience. There were rarely any laughs and it was a bit painful to watch. Even though John Heffron is my favorite, I thought Alonzo had the best set last night.
However, I have a beef with Heffron. Quit reading this board and stealing my stories for your own personal use!
I posted a story not too long ago about having a 1981 Chevette with a hole in the floor that I lost a good mix tape out of. I did a search and, for the life of me, I can’t pull up that post, but I swear I told that story here!
Either Chevettes had notoriously bad floors in them or he’s a Doper. Oh, I still love him anyway.
I had it on in lieu of anything else to watch, and was profoundly unimpressed with the last four sets – they all seemed really nervous, Rich Vos especially.
Is the voting still open? I had a friend in mid-crisis and ended up going over there instead of voting (where are my priorities?) – gonna vote for Alonzo, who I’ve like all along and who sucked the least last night.
Nerts! I forgot to vote. I meant to vote for Alonzo since he made fun of Paris Hilton. Well, I have a feeling that season 2 will hold on to the end and one of those guys will win.
On a related note, I used to drive a Chevette with enough holes in it that water would come in, but the holes weren’t big enough to lose anything through.
What’s up with Chevette floors? Did they make 'em out of Saltines or something?
I’ve been watching all along, and honestly, I thought Dave Mordal had the strongest set of the four.
I’d love to see him win it, but of course, it’s hard to defeat Season Two. They’ve had the benefit of being on television most recently, so they’re going to get the lion’s share of the votes.
I have to agree with Chastain86. Dave definitely had the best set, although his delivery on some were a little off. Alonzo on the other hand, had some weak, predictable material (“Hilton can’t write a book… She can’t even read a book!”), but has damn good stage presence. That big grin after telling a joke just multiplies the impact.
Whoops, definitely replied too soon. John Heffron did really bad, and it was painful to watch. I usually think he’s pretty funny, although his annoying little kid voice reminds me of Adam Sandler a little bit. I’m not sure if that’s really the way he talks, or if he thinks coming off as a nervous little boy is funny. Rich Vos naturally looks nervous, but he has some really good moments. The Don is also pretty good at covering up when he messes up a joke. Heffron, on the other hand, just started talking faster and wanted to get off stage as soon as possible. I felt bad for him.
And that’s my extremely organized, well written opinion.
I watched last night as well - as I’ve watched every night in this season. Those sets were the weakest of them all. Well, the weakest of their sets. I love John - and was happy to hear him doing new bits…but come on!!! I think it will either go to Alonzo (most likely) or Dave. All along I wanted John to win - but not after his performance last night.
The last four, except for maybe Alonzo, who I voted for, or actually, my wife was on the computer, so I had her vote for him, were not the funniest. I was shocked that they were the last four.
If it were up to me, it would have been Kathleen Madigan, Tess, Dat Phan, and even though his “not politically correct” routine bombed big time, Ralphie May.
Although Ant and Tammy Pescatelli were really great too, in my opinion.
Ew, Dat Phan? I think he’s one of the worst comics of the bunch. The Mortal Kombat Urinal joke was funny, but the nearly all the rest was just a stupid impression of his mother.
Alonzo was the only one with a funny set this week, the other three seemed like they were on downers. I’m hoping he wins, because he was my second favorite last season (John was my favorite…his stories remind me of my brother and I growing up) so it’d be nice for him to win this time.
I too wish that Ant and Tammy had hung in longer, they’ve gotten screwed both seasons, especially Ant. And I hope that I never see Jay London again, except, perhaps, in a discovery channel special.
Seems to me that running that last show on debate night was not exactly helpful, and shouldn’t have counted against the show.
For my money, they could have done better giving each comic a couple of extra minutes, and dropped all of the phony suspense and and voting announcements and recaps.
People want to see comics telling new jokes, not repeat of the same old tension and dialing rules and recaps.
I was a big Heffron fan but was sorely dissapointed by his last performance. I remember watching thinking “dude, what’s up with you tonight? It’s the FINALS man! Step it up!” None of them were all that great.
elfkin477, I feel you on the Jay London thing. I couldn’t stand that guy. He did the same crap every damned week. No Jay, moving over there will not help!
twickster: I’ll probably be taping it. Shoot me an email if you’d like a copy, my email’s in my profile.
You’ve got to be kidding me! They cancelled it and aren’t even going to air the last episode with the results on network TV? Sheesh! They can rerun Father of the Pride episodes that were just shown within the past few weeks but they can’t show the final episode of something that’s been running for weeks?
