Awakened by a coughing jag. again. This is getting quite annoying. Other than that, however, I feel much better. I think I have to get some Musinex or sumpthin’.
morning folks! Up and caffeinating here and I had a couple of toaster waffles with a smear of peanut butter on em (very tasty, believe it or not :)).
Rosie, I’m sorry that you’re still under the weather–that’s a very persistent germ. Sending more and stronger healing vibes your way.
I’m getting ready to go to the grocery store; I didn’t make it to Target yesterday although my daughter did go. And let me say, from her report on returning home, I am glad that I did -not- go! The store was -packed- with back-to-school folks of all sizes and ages! Many schools return tomorrow, plus we’re in Univ. of MD territory (College Park is the next town over), and there were lots of college students in there too. Daughter said the store was a total mob scene, and that many of the younger kids were running rampant.
Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday. And Dotty, why do you have to hide when you take the sips of water?! I am scratching my head at how Ramadan works, although I think maybe the whole thing is that it doesn’t really work the way it is supposed to. I tell ya, if it was me, I’d switch my schedule upside down – work after sunset and sleep during the day. That’s not how it’s supposed to work though, right?! At any rate, sending you good wishes and vibes for the next month.
Huzzah for sleep. Yeah, I was up shortly after 6, but I went to bed about 8 last night, and mostly slept thru. Granted, the dream about working aboard an aircraft carrier was exhausting in itself but mostly, other than waking, looking at the clock, then falling back to sleep, it was an uninterrupted night. I’ve got a dozen muffins baking at the moment and I’m caffeinating.
I know **FCD **intends to go to Lowe’s today to get some stuff to make “lab table” tops for daughter’s classroom. I need to do a little grocery gathering and toss a load or two into the washer. And knit - knitting is always good.
**Dotty **- sneaking to the little girls’ room for a sip of water is reminiscent of school days when kids snuck there for a smoke. I managed to avoid the Girls’ Room through most of high school just because it was so stinky, plus if a teacher showed up, anyone in there was automatically guilty.
Oh, and yesterday, I needed a potty break while helping out at the elementary school. Holy guacamole, those toilets and sinks are low to the ground!!! I swear, the sink was barely higher than my knees!!
mmmmmmmmmmmm - it smells muffin-y in here - time to check the oven. Happy Sunday!!
Guess I should post the recipe, huh? My mother-in-law got this from a friend and shared it with me:
10 oz raisin bran cereal
5 c flour
3 c sugar
5 t baking soda
4 eggs, beaten
1 c melted Crisco
1 quart buttermilk
Mix together the first 6 ingredients. Then add the buttermilk and mix well.
Fill muffin papers 2/3 full. Bake at 400°F for 15-20 minutes.
You can store the batter refrigerated in a covered container for use as desired. Just mix it up a little before filling the cups. It’ll keep up to 6 weeks, they say. I’ve never had it hang around that long.
I’ve seen variations on this that included cinnamon or nuts - seems like you could go wild with experimentation. I threw in some extra raisins, just because.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. I slept until 7:15 this mornin’! Unheard of!
I think Ima go inform ol’ y’all know who we need to get purtified so’s he can take me out for brekkie before church.
The muffins do sound yum MOOOOOOM. I may feel the need for a sto’ run for Rasisin Bran and buttermilk. I have all the other stuff on hand.
Rasisin Bran? Is that a Jawja thang??
Ssssh, FCM! It’s a secret order of Jawjan dry grapes trained in the arts of sneaking around and garroting bananas with their own peels, but it won’t stay secret for long if people keep asking about it!
Morning, up caffeinated, off to work.
blukoffrf
Hmmm, how come I didn’t post yesterday? I started to a couple of times and apparently never finished.
Glad you’re feeling better rosie. Hope you can find something to help get rid of the cough. The pharmacists I know are unanimous in saying that the best thing is to drink lots and lots of fluids.
Added FCM’s muffin recipe to the blog. One of the things I was going to post yesterday was a request for it. Glad you read my mind.
Nava made me giggle. Garroted bananas are funny, I guess.
I spent yesterday afternoon knitting and watching a couple of Bollywood movieson hulu. They only have a few, but they’re entertaining.
Gotta get ready to be deheathenated. Then there’s work. But also garden stuff.
Happy Sunday, all!
GT
gt, I followed your link since I’ve never seen a Bollywood movie. I couldn’t get thru the credits on the first one - all the flashing back and forth, quick cuts, never focusing on anything more than maybe a whole second! Made my head wanna asplode!!! I was afraid to click on any others - is that a typical beginning to these films?
I’ve got a load of jeans in the washer. Everyone else is in the garage, gonna make lab tables for the classroom. While they’re building, I’ll be sewing a couple of ladybug valances for her classroom windows - my kid loves ladybugs. Then once the lab tables are built, I’ll help prime and paint them. Because I’m good at that.
We’ve spent a lot of money helping her set up her classroom, but many of the things can be used regardless of what she teaches. And anything that makes her job a little easier, giving her more energy to spend teaching, well, that’s what matters, right? I got a 15% off plus free shipping from Oriental Trading Company, and she ordered a bunch of stuff she could use from them. Her school only gives them about $200 for a year of supplies. Yeah. So if you have a little spare change lying around, give it to a teacher for classroom supplies. That would be a very nice thing to do.
Off to sew.
My day is now complete
Good morning everyone. I’m up, sipping coffee and contemplating what I need to do today. Needless to say, it’s a lot, and it probably won’t all get done. Oh well.
Dang rosie, that cough is persistent. I hope it clears up more quickly.
The son is upstairs in the shower getting ready for work. The hubby is still sleeping, and I’m enjoying the peace and quiet before everyone comes downstairs.
The daughter is off with her boyfriend and I probably won’t see her until this evening at the earliest.
Guess I’ll cruise the net for awhile.
Wow, I killed the MMP.
Nah, it’s waiting for tomorrow
You’re right - that’s not how Ramadan is supposed to work, but society here functions on the premise that if they prohibit everyone from eating, drinking or smoking (in public, at least, or in the office) during daylight hours, it makes it easier for the poor souls who are fasting. I like to think Muslims who fast in countries where life goes on as normal would get more religious brownie points (or gold stars, or whatever Whatshisname hands out), but that’s not how life works here (similar to women having to cover up, so they don’t excite or arouse the poor men with no self control)! As for doing everything at night, well that’s what most people do here - function as zombies for the 6 hours they have to work, then go home, sleep until sunset (unless you’re the designated cook), then eat, drink fruit juice and make merry until the wee hours of the morning. Lather, rinse, repeat for 30 days! So much for helping people appreciate the lives of those who can’t afford to eat!
Sounds like the fiestas back home, minus bullruns, cheap beer and having chocolate for breakfast when the sun is out…
I’m here!
I’m so tired today. Can’t get motivated to do much. Mr Rebo cleaned the whole vacuum cleaner (it’s a Dyson and comes apart easily.) It sucks much better, now. He showed me by vacuuming the living room!
Groceries are bought and put away and sirloin strips are marinating. I’m gonna surf until I get sleepy and then go take a nap. I had night sweats so bad last night I just didn’t get much quality sleep.
Mr Rebo has decided to get a Garmin GPS thingie to help with navigating the city for his new job. It will be a cool toy! They’ve come down a lot in price. So he’s off shopping for one.
Busy busy day. I did 3 loads of laundry, 2 line-dried. I made 2 sets of valences for daughter’s classroom. Loaded and ran the dishwasher. Fed the zoo. Fetched pizza for a late lunch. And I just put 6 more muffins in the toaster oven - **FCD **has a hankerin’…
It’s sooooooooo humid - even with lower temps, it’s miserable out there. Plus I’ve got all kinds of skeety-bites on my legs - guess I’m tasty. I’m definitely itchy. Stoopit skeeties.
Thus endeth my weekend. Except for some knitting. Tomorrow’s going to be a late day - meeting scheduled from 2-4, and I know it’ll run late. ugh. Guess that’s why I get the big bucks…
Just looked at an email I received and didn’t (bother to) open until now.
<gulp> I am meeting with the CEO and other Head Suits of the Hospital on Monday. IOW, I am going to be introduced as the New Librarian. <gulp>
