Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Mahaloth, oh, it is. Prepare for a lengthy cinema or two…

This game is nothing short of amazing. While the graphics themselves are plain, they are also stylish, and they enable the animation to constantly amaze. Also, bombs/explosions have never looked better. :stuck_out_tongue: This also has the distinction of the only Zelda game with continuity… which I really like. The plot is very well done and is probably the most engrossing and most detailed of any Zelda game (although I haven’t played through either GB Oracle game or Majora’s Mask). The battle system is wonderful and the music kicks all sorts of rear ends. Not to mention the spawling world and countless secrets, and the 40 hour+ game time (I estimate I’ve put at least 25 hours into this by now, and I don’t appear to be very close to the end).

Best. Zelda. Ever. I love Nintendo.

One big gripe I have with this game though…it really seems to be pretty short. Was it just me or was Ocarina of Time freakin huge the first time you played it? That game took me hours and hours to complete, and the diversity of the locals really pushed it to seem like you’ve been everywhere. With Wind Waker…its just…water. and more water. And a little bit more water. I kinda miss the diversity of OoT. I’m pretty far along too. I have 2 dungeons left, and I’m feeling a little miffed about it. Same thing goes with all your weapons and gagets. It doesnt seem like there are enough of them.

One thing I diddnt like about OoT, and I think Nintendo failed on Wind Waker is the lack of NPC’s. I know Link is a legendary hero and all that jazz, but has anyone else ever noticed that you do all that work just to save some small village? whoopty freakin doo. The gameplay makes up for it, but it is always anoying when you are made out to be the savior of the land, and there is only one or two villages. “Congratulations! you saved 20 people! Everyone in Hyrule is saved!”.

Dont get me wrong. I love Zelda. I’m a huge fanboy of the series. I just think its about time Nintendo started to work on NPC’s a lot more. I wanna have a real reason to fight in the game, not just cause my boat is telling me to.

Oh, and I diddnt give away anything in my last post. I was talking about the Zelda games in general.

I was just playing around with it at a friends house today. I like the graphics, but I hate how Link looks. I like the cartoony effect of the fire especially. I just think that they should have made Link look better, you forget about it after a while but its something that takes away from the game.
It seems far to short. And to simple. Oh, and I really wish they would have some new ideas in this series. Its all the same thing over and over. Collect three things, get one thing, then collect 7 or 8 things and fight the bad guy. Plus you have basically the same items and tools as in the last games. They need some new stuff.
However, the story so far is looking good. I seemed a little dry at first but the little twist about what happened to Hyrule was intensely enjoyable. I won’t give it away but it was pretty neat.

Blasted fairies used to be really sexy & now they look like nuns. Nuts.

I hope you don’t meant the fairy whores from Ocarina of Time.

Well, I have put in some more time on this game and I still stand by my criticisms. I would not be able to stomach more NPC’s if I have to keep clicking thru boring BORING dialog.

Why are these people asking me to do them favors when I am looking for my kidnapped sister? “We will try to help you but before we can do that we need you to get this widget from the top shelf in the dragons garage” huh?

Someone above mentioned the tediousness of boating everywhere and I will concur with that as well.

I dunno, maybe I don’t like games as much as I used to in my youth. I have not finished Warcraft 3, Metroid Prime, Zelda, Rainbow 6 3, Hitman 2, or any number of other games I have bought.

You do get a warp song later in the game. You can’t warp to every single square on the chart, but you can get close to all of them.

Sorry if that is a spoiler, but it should alleviate some concerns. Actually, you can get it really early in the game, as soon as you have access to the whole world(I believe right after the first dungeon).

You just have to know how to get it…

I just remembered that you need an item you get a little later in the game to get it, so you can’t get it extremely early in the game.

I think it’s to teach you how to use the shield.

Something I had never mastered on other Zelda’s.

Why wouldn’t it be loading?

I’m going to pick this dingle-berry once and for all. You can go back to that very same spot later in the game and there is no panning of the camera. That means no cinemas, cutscenes or whatever else people are calling themt these days. I repeat, NO LOADING.

Those chicks were freaky (and not in a good way). Especially that scream/laugh.

Yeah, after I posted that I went to the Forbidden Fortress for a second time and that was one of the first things I noticed. So sorry about that, but think of it this way: on the off chance you caught the superflu going around, your blood boiling over from so many people arguing this point with you probably killed it off.

No hard feelings?

I think the cartoon look is just right for it. I haven’t had a chance to play it much yet but I think it works perfectly. Makes me wonder why they ever went to the more realistic look in the earlier ones.

They are in a series you know.

This isn’t a spoiler, but a time saver, to get that Sea Warp song thingie, you have to get into a whirlwind, then you get instructions on how to find it, which I won’t tell cause you just have to figure it out

Yeah, you thought you should avoid those whirlwinds?

Hmmm…I think I’m going to explain in spoiler box form how to get the warp song, since I’m afraid that might throw people in the wrong direction a bit(no offense, handy :)).

You need to find the giant Tornado that periodically appears on different squares on the grid. It is much bigger than the little cyclones and is quite obvious. Get sucked in. A little guy will rise to the top and you have a few seconds to shoot him 3 times with your bow and arrow(which is what I forgot you needed). After you shoot him the third time, he dances in a way that tells you the song and you learn it. You can then warp only to the points on the map where the giant Tornado appeared, but they are pretty well spread out. Not only that, but you don’t run into the giant Tornado again on accident. It’s worth it.

Of course not, just keep in mind that I’m always right

Anyone find a signifigant portion of the treasures? Including the shiny surfaces on the water and the maps, there must be 50 of them.

I would just like to state that I love this game
