Finally getting a chance to poke my nose in, and I was 170+ posts behind – i.e., most of the thread!
I read a few of the recent ones, but skipped everything in the middle.
Work was busier than usual all week, and I don’t do much typing in the evenings anymore: in order to keep my tailbone from hurting while I’m on the couch I need to sit/lean/lay on one hip or another, and none of those positions is good for iPad typing (to the extent needed to post). The cushion that works for chairs doesn’t work for the sofa; I assume because the latter is softer/squishier. The upshot is that if I don’t get around to posting here on a given day while I’m sitting at my desk – either while working, or on a weekend – I likely won’t post at all that day. And when work is busy, I sometimes can’t even keep up with just reading. I’ve come to notice when I’m way behind here: I start missing y’all.
(Maybe that’s why I always feel compelled to acknowledge when I’m behind…?)
Bailey had her third physical therapy session on Thursday evening, and she used an aqua treadmill for the first time. I wasn’t sure how she’d tolerate being in water, because she’s never liked it, but she did great! The rehab center sent me a short video that I can’t seem to stop watching. Heh. She has three more sessions scheduled, then the rehab vet will reevaluate Bailey’s arthritis/muscle weakness. I might have to stop her PT then, though – unless I see significant improvement – because I’m hoping to start my own therapy (psychological) soon and I don’t think I can comfortably afford both. We’ll see what late October brings.
In happy news, I’ve booked another jazz singing gig – a solo show! It’s on 12/1. It isn’t unusual for venues to book 2-3 months out, and I actually appreciate it because I still have a week or two before I need to start identifying/hiring band members…and then another week or two before I have to start figuring out my set lists.
Yesterday I went to a three-hour fundraising luncheon for my NAACP branch. It was hard to get out of bed due to the cold/dark/rainy weather, and then it was hard to leave my warm and dry house (and doggy), but I’m really glad I went. I knew that one of my fellow committee members would be there, and it turned out that a third member also attended – plus, the husband of another member! And, quite coincidentally, all four of us wound up at the same table!
It was great to get to meet the two other members of my committee in person (we’d only seen each other on Zoom), and it was a nice event. I was also happy that we wound up sitting with two great members of the county’s board of supervisors (the board chairman was at a reserved table, along with the county’s chief of police). I was never much of a “local politics” person, but it’s hard to avoid paying attention/caring when you volunteer with a group like the NAACP.
Today is also cold/dark/rainy, and I’m happy to have zero plans other than emptying the dishwasher (I did my laundry on Friday…go, me!). It’s after 1:30, so I’m gonna go rustle up some lunch and decamp to the living room. But I’ll read for a while before I turn the TV on: the Big Reveal in my current book is just a few pages away, and I’d rather finish it now than stay up too late tonight.
Quoted for truth!
I inherited my mom’s (complete) Wedgwood tea set, and gave up trying to sell it after 2-3 years. It’s currently being stored in a dresser drawer – each piece in its original plastic bag – and I figure one of these days I’ll have the space/get some furniture to display it.
I got my first one last year, about a week before I turned 50. (those bastards)
