This morning I’m gonna go get my passport. I tried yesterday, but they didn’t like my antique hospital birth certificate, so I had to go down to the Bureau of Vital Statistics and get a certified copy. It’s a good thing I was born in Houston, because the statewide computer’s server in Austin was down. Probably why I only had to wait an hour, too.
I thought it was funny that there is a field on the certificate that says “Legitimate?” Apparently, I’m not a bastard. Hee!
ETA: Oh yeah!
My husband and I were talking, and it’s been decided that we can afford for me to go a few days early and do the tourist thang! I’ll go to London and see the sights, then travel to Aberdeen on Sunday to be ready for my Monday meeting.
Woo-hoo! Now I have to plan it all out, with the company’s travel people.

[li]At least 2 spots on my regular route had 3+ feet of water in the road.[/li][li]US 13 in southern Suffolk VA was partially washed out, and down to one lane.[/li][li]A traffic accident (I think; never saw it) diverted me off US 58 and up a back road. If I tried that route yesterday, I would have been just as screwed as I was this morning getting out of Cottonfield County.[/li][li]The phones are out at my favorite Firday brekkie spot, so I couldn’t call ahead.[/li][/ul]
Grand total: 45 minutes late. At least I’m in one piece, and I didn’t submerge the car.
Today is a half day for me in teh office. Haircut, gym, massage, goofing off a bit, a high school football game, and a post-game beerverage with a couple of the coaches.
Laundry’s done! Sheets washed and on the bed even! Also, back porch is cleaned off. I’ve been productive! Go me.
BBBobbio glad you made it to work safely. I say you should start the return trip home soon. I think you need to make sure you get home on time to make up for gettin’ to work late. It’s only fair.
Hey everybody! Lots of stuff going on, I am hoping to be back home in the civilized world before Christmas. Alaska has been real, and it’s been fun, but it’s not real fun, and it is time for me to begin a new adventure.
But while there is still time…bears are roaming the streets of town. It was a bad year for fish and berries, and they are hungry. Also, a dead whale floated onto the beach downtown, that was interesting, for a minute.
Ah, my coffee just walked in the door*, so Ima go drink it now! Be back soon-ish!
I have read page one and some of page 2. I will catch up later I promise.
Happy belated B-Day rosie!
rebo Aberdeen is nice but at that time of year expect cold and rain and really short days/long hours of dark. Stay down town if they let you (I imagine your office will be at Westhill or out at Dyce). Commute will be a bit of a bitch although nothing compared to Houston. Lots of nice restaurents and shopping downtown. The people are really friendly but the accent is really really thick and you will have issues understanding! I working in Aberdeen back in 2000 so my local knowledge is a little out of date but I really liked it there.
I was in Tulsa OK this week, Lima OH next week, Altanta GA the week after, Norfolk VA the week after. Good times.
I had some dental stuff done yesterday and as I am leetle teeny tiny bit scared of the dentist they gave me valium. I wasn’t sure it had had any effect on me other than making me sleepy and feeling hungover all damn day. But I made it through the appointment so I guess it did something.
***TGIF!!! *** What a week this has been! Luckily, the rain wasn’t too horrid on us, apart from a bunch of branches falling off trees. FIREWOOD!!
Daughter is taking her pup to a puppy social thing, then she’s bringing him back here and going out - I assume with a friend. So **FCD **and I are on our own for supper. Dunno if we’ll go out or eat in.
I’m hoping to do some yard work this weekend, plus I have a mess of laundry. Good times.
Howdy kai! Does movin’ back to civilization mean movin’ back to Washington state or Califor-ni-a?
Dindin tonight is leftovers. To make up for that, tomorrow I am smokin’ chicken boobs, laigs and thighs and some sausages. Ok, not all for tomorrow. We’re havin’ lunch with JDD and his family on Sunday and he asked if I’d smoke some chikin if’n he bought the chikin. No prob there. So we’ll have sausages for lunch tomorrow and some chikin (I’m smokin’ some to eat at da cave) tomorrow night and chikin Sunday. Not a bad thang. We lurves chikin!
Did I just see Kai whizzing through here? :waves Alaska-wards:
Busy day today, first email I read was from a tutor feigning a chest infection to get out of teaching a bunch of self-entitled 3rd year med students. Can’t say I blame him so I gave them a lovely Chinese bloke as their tutor instead. Cross me in future, they will not.
It was the first small-group teaching day for my course and the first time the new office really found out about the pointy stick. The poor receptionist had trouble keeping a straight face when she came in to say that a student had turned up not knowing which group he was in or where he was supposed to go for his tutorial…she was fine until I asked her if he had any idea what his name was so I could find him on the list. I had to go and tell him the info myself because she was too busy laughing.
'im indoors is coming home as I type, he will be getting off the train in about an hour. That just gives me time for a cup of tea and a bath before I have to go out in the nasty cold wet weather to pick him up from the station.
Too many auditors. Too few rocks. Too many OT hours to appease them.
Worse, too much headache. It’s like a migraine, but on both sides. Turning my head side to side fills my head with a grinding sort of noise. I’m thinking it’s time to have The Talk with myself and a physician. I can go to the chiropractor, and a couple tweaks and cracks later, I feel fine, but only for a couple of hours. Two years ago, I had the same thing, but at the other end - I’d be in so much pain I could barely walk, but the chiro could make things tolerable for a day or so. Off to the doctor, and I was soon on a fairly rapid track to neurosurgery.
I am so glad I don’t live down there anymore. Everyone I know down there had to hold on to something last night so they didn’t wash away.
I’ve been a day ahead of myself all week. Yesterday I thought it was Friday, today I kept thinking it was Saturday. Tomorrow I might catch up with myself.
