Lost 2.16: "The Whole Truth"

Well, considering Sun is only now showing symptoms of pregnancy and they’ve been on the island for what… 47 days? So a little under 2 months, I’d say she got pregnant post plane crash. If she got pregnant pre-plane crash she’d have been showing similar symptoms much sooner island time. Of course I’m just basing on my own experience when I have the same symptoms at about a month pregnant, maybe less.

I’m still annoyed at myself that I missed episodes between The Long Con and now. I need to remember to set the VCR before I crash out.

Yep. I agree 100%. It’s just too hokey. And the funny thing is, the real reason Jin gave for apologizing was, basically, that he needs a translator.

If anyone wanst to hear the backwards dialog, it’s here. Nothing big, but I have to wonder if it’s signficant that they were talking backwards. Some sort of time distortion on The Island?

And I, too, thought the writers were playing off the views dislike of AL when they had here talk about no on liking her.

How does Charlie have a gun? I thought Sawyer took all of them?

Charlie helped Sawyer in The Long Con, maybe Sawyer gave him a gun.

It’s not even interesting that neither Sayid nor AL questioned Charlie’s possession of the handgun. More par for the course that none of our Losties even blink at stuff that would make normal people (us?) demand answers.

Yes, I know he’s bad, but mmmm…he’s such a GOOD bad.

I thought he was actually halfway decent to Sun, calling her “Sunshine,” before he got all pissy about the pregnancy test. Maybe because she hasn’t kissed him or hit him.

It is, of course, possible that Charlie went to get the gun from Sawyer before going out to search for the balloon, and that we just didn’t see the exchange. For all we know, he could have offered Sayid and AL that he’d go get the gun, because he was sure Sawyer would give it to him.

TPTB said the one time before when they had Jin hearing gibberish when everyone else was talking that they did it to show the viewers what it is really like from Jin’s perspective. Nothing more.

I’m pretty sure that at one point Hurley tells Jack that he spent some time in a mental hospital. He goes on to say something else but Jack’s only comment is a surprised “You were in a mental hospital?” Can’t remember which episode it was though. (I think it was from the 2nd season opener when Jack is asking why Hurley freaked out when they were about to blow the hatch.)

I don’t remember if it was the opener, but it was definitely when Hurley was trying to tell Jack about why the numbers were bad.

No, Ana-Lucia expressed surprise when she glimpsed it while ogling Charlie’s hobbit bottom.

SurrenderDorothy, it’s a damned shame you missed the end – it doesn’t really come across in transcription. The manic look on Uncle Henry’s face when he asked if they “Got any milk?” made me laugh out loud.

I like that Kate commented on that. “Who flies with a pregnancy test?” That little acknowledgement of unlikelihood neatly converts a dramatic expedient into a subtler version of “Why is there a polar bear in the tropics?”

Notice that when Locke was talking to AL he referred to it as “my hatch”?

If Sawyer just happens to have an ACME Paternity Test squirelled away somewhere, I’m done.

I loved how AnaLucia left it kind of open as to exactly how the last wrong person she imprisoned ended up dead…

Bit of a pot calling a kettle black, Charlie dissing AnaLucia for murdering somebody last time she had her hands on a gun…

And, yeah, where do they keep getting all this food? Jack or Locke said there was a storeroom full of it!

re: thoughts that Charlie might have impregnated Sun when he knocked her out… that was, like, three days ago. Notice the scab still on her forehead…

Bandstand for the DriveShaft Solo tour.

My first thought when she said that was that maybe at some point she thought she was pregnant. Later in the conversation she admitted to previously taking a test.

Regarding Henry Gale:

I think he’s an ‘Other’. I predict there might have been a real-life HG and wife in a balloon, and, after it crashed they were captured and/or killed by the Others. This man is an Other in disguise which is why

AL, Sayid and Charlie appear to find the balloon in the next episode.

Yeah, she did have a strange look – half relief and half… uncertainty?

I think maybe she was still feeling some guilt over her secret meetings with Baldie to learn English. Maybe that’s all she did (learn English), but if she ever did tell Jin about it, he would definitely be suspicious. I think she’s still feeling guilt over keeping him in the dark over it.

Yeah, I thought Sayid should have called him on that.

I think that makes sense, though. It’s one of the reasons inmates go stir crazy in solitary confinement – lack of ability to communicate with anyone outside of the possible minimal exchanges they might have with a guard a couple of times a day. Although they’re not confined in a traditional sense, like stuck in an elevator or a prison cell, they are confined in the sense that they can’t get off that island. It may seem odd, but one can experience clostrophobia in such a circumstance. Add to that the enormous frustration at not being able to freaking talk to anyone about anything, and it must be extremely mentally draining to feel that isolated.

A few months ago I expressed my growing annoyance with the characters not showing any curiosity about their surroundings in this post, so I feel a bit vindicated and a bit of satisfaction that the writers finally acknowledged that by having Henry say the exact same thing!

So Henry is not an Other, he’s a viewer.

Oh, yeah–do you think that was intentionally coy writing having the hobbit make the joke about “no breakfast?”

“How about elevenses? Do you think he knows about that?”
“I don’t think he knows about elevenses, Pippin…”
