As for Charlie having a gun and AL and Sayid not asking why, Sawyer said that if people wanted a gun they just had to ask him. I get the impression that Sayid and AL were both too stubborn to ask Sawyer for anything and they just figured that Charlie did ask.
I liked Charlie this episode, he was a lot less pathetic and more of a smart-ass.
Re: The food. I would guess since they still have some they must have rationed out some of the basic essentials for those minding the hatch and they let people party with the “luxury” items, like potato chips, candy and peanut butter.
Re: Hurley in the mental institution. I believe that in one of the previous episodes his mother commented about him having a breakdown. Why he had the breakdown was probably never explained.
Re: Sun and is she telling the whole truth? They have always let us believe that those two really love each other, remember she almost left him and then changed her mind? They did leave us with a little doubt about whether or not something happened with her and baldLee, but I think if something had happened she would have had no trouble breaking with Jin because essentially she would have already taken that first big step. Still I could be wrong but I think the baby is indeed Jin’s.
As for Jin, we didn’t hear the exact details of his sterility but sometimes if it’s just something like “low motility” or some such thing it is still possible for one of the little dudes to make the swim and that’s all it takes. He may not even have needed to be “cured” by the island.
I also did not like how they made Jin revert back to asshole, granted he was worried about her but still that was a bit too much.
Those were my thoughts from the moment he brought up the balloon thing.
I just hope that the writers don’t have the Lostaways release him upon Sayid’s return and announcment that they found the balloon. I really, really hate it when they have the characters do something so obviously stupid.
BTW, supposedly the company which owns the lab where Sun and Jin went for fertility tests was shown in Charlie’s backstory-- a billboard or sign in the London skyline. That’s why I always like to watch each episode twice, the 2nd time paying attention to what’s going on in the background, not what the main characters are doing.
Oops, my bad. Make that the company which manufactured the pregnancy test that Sun took on The Island-- Windmore Labs. There was a Windmore Construction sign in the epsiode “Fire + Water”. What does that mean? Beats the hell outta me!
I still think that Sayid knows Charlie was in on the gun heist. I know there are people that disagree with me on this, and they certainly haven’t built on Sayid’s “Have you forgotten?” speech, but I still think he knows. And if he didn’t have it figured out by now, this was a hell of a big clue.
I agree. I think it’s possible that she did have the affair with Baldy, but I also think her story to Jin would have been different if she really thought that Baldy was the father.
How many days has passed since Jin emerged from his tent with the big smile on his face? I suspect we are to presume that that was when the deed was done. Has enough time passed that Sun could feel the early effects of pregnancy? Of course, that begs the question: does Island Time always corrolate to real time?
The raft was launched on day 44, the Rafties came back on day 48, and AL said last night she’d been there a week, so we’re around day 55. If Sun just missed her period, she got pregnant around the time Michael started building the raft and Claire came back from her visit with the Others.
It’s “Widmore.” Widmore is a suburb of London, so it makes sense just as something to establish location.
Damon Lindeloff and Carlton Cuse mention it in this podcast. I can’t keep track of who’s who, but in reference to the Widmore sign, they say: “It seems to be fairly innocuous, but write it down.” “You’ll be hearing more about the Widmore company.” “Maybe related to the Hanso foundation.”
They also point out that in that shot they took care to include the power station featured on the album cover for Pink Floyd’s Animals, which I didn’t notice at all. (Anyone got a screenshot?)
This is kind of neat, because Animals features a cynical parody (“Sheep”) of the 23rd Psalm, which Charlie had recited with Eko only two episodes before “Fire + Water.”
Day 35 is when Jin leaves Sun and moves to the beach after finding out she speaks English. Michael starts building the raft on Day 28. So seems possible it could’ve been during that time.
This site is great for timeline issues, although it needs to be updated for the latest epsidode. According to it, last week’s ep ended 9 days after the rafties returned. I think each episode is supposed to be 2-3 days, so let’s say 12 days since they returned, at the latest. That’s pretty quick for a pregnancy, especially since the Smiley Jin moment was a day or two after they arrived back in camp.
