Lost 2.18: "Dave"

I loved the way the fight scene went between Hurley and Sawyer, with them getting all wrapped up in the tarp, then Sawyer starts to crawl out and he gets pulled back in, kicking and screaming… kind of like Locke getting dragged off by the smoke monster… and everybody’s standing back, just watching.

Somebody asked above about how bad is Jack’s planning that he’ll wander off into the woods and offer to trade Henry for Waaalt; have you seen how Jack’s plans usually work? He’s like an Irish Setter. Pretty, capable, and a brain the size of a seed tick.

Of course, if we were all part of a diabolical conspiracy, we would try to confuse you and lead you into thinking you had written things you hadn’t. Good thing we’re not evil conspirators, huh? Got any milk?

I assumed that was all a put on. Good cop, Bad cop. Or Bad cop, Insane cop. Sayid threatens to shoot Not-Henry for if he doesn’t talk, AL grabs him, he fires deliberately into the wall, Not-Henry poops his pants and gets chatty.

Not-Henry is their only source of information, you don’t just shoot him dead.

Anybody else think that Libby may be stalking Hurley? Perhaps she knew he was late for the plane (even though she was in the tail section) because she had been watching for him and waiting for him to show up.

I don’t think she needs to be a credentialed clinical psychiatrist, she may be one of those smart pathological liars who can insinuate themselves into a career and know enough to pull it off, especially if she spent any time around psychiatrists.

problem with the spoiler:

In the aforementioned ‘final seconds’ the lockdown did not occur… so there is no reason to believe that letting the timer get to zero will cause those particular doors to shut.

It would appear that the timing of the “lockdown” coincided this time with the 108 timeout.

In this case, the lockdown doors shut with ‘plenty of time’ before the final seconds alarm.

There’s something fishy about the “real” Henry Gale, letter to Jennifer or no. I was so surprised to find out that it wasn’t a fake name, what with the Wizard of Oz stuff … I think his ID might yet turn out to be a fake!

No – good catch!

Yep! That made me smile.

No! I guess I notice the pop culture references, but not the internal show references. <sigh>

I flashed on the Connect 4 game. The first and only time I saw anyone playing it was in a psych ward. We have one at home now, and the grandkids love it. But they play like Leonard.

Well, I didn’t catch the Connect 4 reference because I never even heard of the game before seeing it on this show. When did it become popular? Must have been past my time…

I caught the Connect Four reference - they did it in a Scrubs episode, too, with JD and Death playing. Death won, and JD said the line. “Pretty sneaky, Death.”

John Mace, I think Connect Four came out in the late 70s. I sort of missed out on it, but my kids played it a lot. I remember seeing the commercials for it, though. I was still young, but would have been a little too old for it.

Okay, trion, and to some extent Wile E, beat me to it, but I think Libby is a Hanso Foundation plant placed in the psych ward to monitor Leonard and then began stalking Hurley when he got out and used the numbers in the lottery. She may have been on the plane to help ensure its eventual crash or to help facilitate the aftermath.

Isn’t Eko building a church a bit too obvious? I think a Starbucks is actually more likely. :stuck_out_tongue:

It reminded me of the Sarlaac Pitt from RotJ. Especially when Sawyer clawed at the Sand like Lando Calrissian.

Syllogistically, then, your home is a psych ward? :stuck_out_tongue:

I know we had one in 1974/75, because I remember my step-siblings arguing over it before I was in school.

The “Pretty sneaky, sis!” commercial is from 1978, going by my usually-infallible “BSW/ASW*” personal memory dating system.

*ie; I already had Star Wars toys by the time that commercial aired, so it was probably after Christmas 1977.

I also use the BSW/ASW method. Although I don’t have many memories BSW, it seems like a great dividing line of pop culture.

I use Magic Johnson/Larry Bird as a similar breakpoint for sports.

In 1974, I was 10. Still young enough to probably want to play, but at the same time old enough to outwardly sneer, “That’s a kid’s game!” :stuck_out_tongue:

Everyone seems to have seen this instantly, but I’m confused.

I mean, yeah, I immediately knew he wasn’t real - as in the person hurley was seeing on the island wasn’t actually there, just like Jack seeing his father. But I had no idea that dave wasn’t based on Hurley someone knew previously in life. He could’ve easily been a real person, until halfway through the episode. How did everyone instantly know what he was going to be?
Btw, wtf is up with Sayid? I can only guess that he knew Ana Lucia would interject, otherwise he’d have killed the guy. How dumb would it have been to kill your biggest potential source of information? (Of course, it could just be lazy writing - see Ethan)

Ask the Hobbit.

Yep, or maybe an ark.

Whatever it is, I wonder if he got the idea/plans from the smoke monster encounter.

I said he was building a church in my other post, and while that seems like the obvious choice, I have a feeling it’s going to turn out to be something else - like when Locke asked Claire to help him with that thing he was building that looked like a cage, and then he flipped it over and it was a cradle for the baby.
