My money’s on Rose. As long as Ana Lucia is just running her mouth, she’s no threat to the castaways. Rose is the one person everyone will assume wouldn’t hurt a fly.
Which episode were they in? I need to rewatch that one.
All it will take is Rambina saying something negative about Bernard, and POW! Right on her ass. Rose will clock her into the middle of next week. The cheers from the viewing audience will be heard in China.
Was it “Rambina” or “Rambolina”?
I’m not sure that anyone every counts the pilot since by the time they found him to know he was alive he didn’t last much longer after that. They did tell the pilot how many had survived, I believe it was 48, and I think it was before the marshall kicked it.
As for the guy who got sucked into the engine, he never would have been counted since I’m sure no one got around to counting survivors until all the running, screaming and exploding was over.
I’m late to the party again, so don’t have anything much to add that hasn’t already been discussed. But of course I’ll think of something:
Regarding the theme of the episode and Hurley’s illogical reaction to his new position of power (wealth?) as Keeper of the Food, I thought it was a brilliant piece of story telling which gave us a glimpse into Hugo’s thought process and his significant ‘people knowing’ powers. I don’t think his friend’s negative reaction had anything to do with the fact that he had just quit his chickenshit job without knowing that Hurley struck it rich. He looked at Hurley exactly as Hurley knew he would upon finding out that his comrade in suffering was a millionaire: You’re no longer one of us, you’re one of them now. Stupid Charlie even said it in one of his hysterical outbursts when he accused Hugo of being the man. I don’t think Hurley is so much motivated by the need to have everyone like him as he is by the need to simply blend in and be like everyone else.
I suffered a giggle fit about midway through Sayid’s nicknames…great list!
And I’m so glad you decided to join us Alliex!
I realize he doesn’t change the balance or the Survivor count. But usually the pilot goes into the plus column and then instantly goes into the loss column.
I just want some respect for Mr. Turbine Man.
Talking about Rose and Bernard made me think of a question: have we encountered anyone on the Island the actually lost a love one or travel companion in the crash?
Kate and the marshal were travelling together. They were “companions” of a sort.
Maybe Scott and Steve had girlfriends-- Karen and Kate. Or was Kate and Karern.
We haven’t met most of the survivors, so we really wouldn’t know.
Rambina.
Thanks!!
Nice to meet you! I think you’re right BTW, about Hurlyey!

I’m updating my list of survivors:
Dead Survivors (of the original 48)
~ US Marshall (S1:3)
~ Joanna (swimmer) (S1:5)
~ Scott Jackson— assumed to have been killed by Ethan and friends (S1:15)
~ Boone Carlysle (S1:20)
~ Leslie Arzt (S1:24)
~ Ethan (b/c they probably counted him among the survivors until they realized otherwise)
Honorable mentions:
~ Turbine guy (S1:1)
~ The Pilot (S1:1)
I agree that the Pilot and Turbine Guy probably weren’t counted in the first list of survivors since they died so quickly, JMO!
So, they let’s say they started with 48, 6 died…leaves us with 42…one birth brings us to 43 survivors to date…but technically, since we know Ethan was not on board, we should probably say there are actually 44 survivors of the "crash’ at this point (including the baby since he was ‘on’ the plane too).
And I just have to add that I think Michael is a total jerk!!! I agree that his wife totally scumbaggged him, and I am on his side on that matter…BUT…in general, Michael is a dick!! I tried for a long time to give him the benefit of the doubt but I can’t do it anymore…his reaction to Sawyer after the raft blew up was so off-base and over the top, I was cringing watching it!!
And that scene where he was saying, (this isn’t word for word but…) “I…just want…to…get…my son…do…you…understand…that…”, was so ridiculous…I thought for a minute that Sawyer was beamed onto the Enterprise and was talking to Captain Kirk!!
Charlie is another survivor I can’t stand…he started out as just pathetic…now he’s pathetic and a complete annoying ass on top of it!! His outbursts towards Hurley is so unjustified, it’s moronic! Waaaahhhh, I want drugs, I mean peanut butter and the fat guy won’t give me any, wwaaaaaahh waaaaahhhh…I don’t care about rationing food in a sensible way, I want peanut butter, wwwaaaaaahhhhhh, nobody tells me anything, waaahhhhhh waahhhhh…I saved Claire’s baby even though it was really Sayid who did it all but I want credit for it, waaahhhhhh waaahhhhhh!!
Put a friggin’ cork in it man!!!

Alliex, great posts! And I love the way you’re keeping track of so many things. Welcome.
I missed this. Anybody recall the context?
It has already been pointed out that this is “Short Round”, but thanks for a great effort!
Huh.
The way I saw it was, from her perspective:
She thought she heard them talking about how they were coming for the child. She thought about how she could use it to her advantage. She’d had plenty of time to decide/realize that the black smoke from her past was a signal for them to meet, and so she thought it might work again. Since they were after the child, she lit the fire - both to attract them to bargain, and to use as a scare tactic to cause the group to go on the move or otherwise make Claire’s baby more vulnerable to her.
She had really thought that the others would come to the smoke she lit, and that she’d be able to orchestrate a deal with the child.
Of course, I guess I was wrong. I misremembered the timing of the black smoke. I thought the whole thing was that there was the black smoke, and she came to visit then to warn them of the danger - if it wasn’t that, what reason did she say she came to them for?
Thanks…I feel VERY welcome here!!
I have kept track of quite a lot of things actually, but I will wait for the appropriate queries to post them!
I kept track of the numbers but then I saw the website that had kept track of the numbers too…my record is a bit simpler…their record contains the same things as mine to some extent but then there are the ‘extravagent math numbers’ connection…if you add this and subtract that and divide it by whatever, you get one of the numbers…a bit contrived IMO…but hey.
You are right…I swear I changed that on my word document…that’s why I’m on THIS site, you guys don’t miss a trick!!! I stand corrected, AGAIN!! LOL

I can check my DVD for the context of Betty but you’re right, I remember thinking that I didn’t get the reference…I thought of ‘betty’ from the Flintstones, but I still didn’t get it.
Allie X
cough
Bangkok Betty.
I agree that his whinging has started to wear a little thin. I was just talking about Charlie with look!ninjas the other day, and we came to the conclusion that Charlie doesn’t know how to get what he wants anymore without manipulation. It’s actually very good writing on the parts of the writers because drug addicts, heroin addicts in particular, are known for that kind of behavior. Just because Charlie isn’t using (that we know of) right now, he’s still a junkie, and that junkie attitude is hard to shake.
Never heard of her.
How about a “Betty” bomber?
