Yes but, I still hope that
Sayid says, “I see your gun is empty.” (reaches behind…) “Mine, however, is not.” Blam. “Michael, Jin, nice to see you again.”
Because it would just be to damn funny!

But Sayid was the only one to bury a bone on this episode…
I am still fascinated by the connections many of these castaways have from their pre-flight/airport lives.
Last night we see Jack in the back ground and get confirmation that he picked his future wife’s life over that of Shannon’s dad.
So, I went back and tried to think of all the crossed paths that each share.
I even put it in a spreadsheet! (Yes…I am a nerd with a lot of free time today to make lists about Lost!)
But after doing it, I was disappointed. I thought there would be more. Maybe I missed something.
Here are my results (they cover only the main characters. They do not yet have supporting characters like Desmond). I also don’t include things like Hurley mentioning Drive Shaft or Hurley on the TV set in Korea.
Here goes:
JACK- Sawyer drank with his dad, was the surgeon where Shannon’s dad/Boone’s step-dad died.
SAWYER- Drank with Jack’s dad, romanced the Lotto girl from Hurley’s drawing, was at the same police station as Boone in Australia.
KATE- None apparent.
CHARLIE- None apparent.
LOCKE- Apparently worked for Hurley’s box company.
HURLEY- Won the lottery where Sawyer’s companion worked, Apparently owned Locke’s company.
JIN- Married to Sun.
SUN- Married to Jin.
CLAIRE- None apparent.
SHANNON- Jack was the surgeon where her dad died. Step-sibling to Boone.
BOONE- Jack was the surgeon where his step-dad died. Step-sibling to Shannon. Was at the same police station with Boone.
MICHAEL- Walt’s dad.
WALT- Michael’s son.
SAYID- None apparent.
Any gaps need filling?
The castaways should have remembered the rules from Scream: If you have sex, you die!
I told the guy who came over to watch the show with me that Sayid and Shannon were playing hide-the-falafel.
I didn’t go back to the episode to confirm this, but in the one from this season where Hurley won the Lottery, Kate was eating a sandwich out in the restaurant.
I’m wondering if one of the lostaways was driving the car that ran into Michael.
Hurley was the luckiest man alive before he got to the island, then Walt was.
Hurley mocked the Driveshaft song with his friend.
Numerous references to the numbers.
There’s a theory that Locke’s Dad was the con artist in Sawyer’s history.
Hurley’s hostile manager at the Cluck Hut was the same guy who mocked Locke at the box company.
At the airport Sayid asked Shannon to watch his bag and she thought it would be funny to tell airport security some suspicious guy left his bag unattended or something, thereby getting Sayid jacked up by security.
I excluded any airport or airplane meetings. Those seem natural.
You watch Lost with Bill O’Reilly?
Some people have been asking whether Sayid really saw Walt. They’ve said the camera work implied he didn’t. But I don’t understand this–Sayid saw Walt first. Sayid and Shannon were hugging, then they both heard the voices, then Sayid looked up, then he got a look in his eyes like he was seeing something, then Shannon seemed to sense this and looked behind her to see what he was looking at, then we see Walt.
As to whether this set of flashbacks helped us understand Shannon’s character any better, I did comment to my wife that, as a result of this flashback, we saw that what, in the first episode, seemed like a petty argument between Boone and Shannon could now be seen to be tapping into matters of authentically life-impacting significance for Shannon.
Also, you guys are being too hard on Ana-Lucia. I’d be jumpy too.

I didn’t like her in the airport. I think it is the actress I don’t like.
So why include things like Jin and Sun being married?
But to add to your list…
Hurley was on on TV in the background when Jin paid a “visit” to one his father-in-law’s targets.
Kate and Sawyer were both at the police station in Sydney. I can’t remember if it was part of Kate’s or Sawyer’s flashback.
Hurley tried to get into an elevator that contained Charley when he was in his hotel on the way to the airport.
I’ve considered putting all the names up on a board and drawing connecting lines between the various lostaways to show all their connections. But then I realized how incredibly nerdy that would be…
You know, that works with something I told a friend a couple weeks ago. He didn’t watch the first season and is trying to get into the series this season, but shares the frustration of many of you who feel we aren’t getting enough information fast enough.
I recorded the entire last season on my DVR. As I had time in the days leading up to the start of this season, I watched all the episodes again. I noticed that, in episodes that seemed like they didn’t give much information, I’d pick up on something that seemed trivial to me at the time, but four episodes later I saw the connection.
So what I’m saying is that I think you have to approach the way you think about a TV series a little differently with Lost. I think we learned a lot this episode but we may not realize it until the end of the season or even next season.
Because they knew each other before the airport. You are correct though. That is a conventional connection.
I excluded that one. I am really trying to draw connections that imply a conspiracy that specifically chose these people to be on that flight and crash on this island. The truth is out there.
So Sawyer, Kate and Boone were ALL in that station?
Good point. But would this still be considered an “airport” incident?
I know. I know. I feel like John Nash staring at newspaper on the wall…

So you’re going to exclude every casual connection among these people except those that fit your conspiracy theory?
Yep, that’s something that bugs the hell out of me. “Every one of us is here for a reason.” But it just doesn’t make sense that someone could manipulate all the events that led to them all being in Sydney, and getting on the same plane. I mean, it would have to be one massive conspiracy!
No, not Boone. Just Sawyer and Kate. I think it was in Kate’s flashback when she was brought in by the US Marshal. It was the same time Sawyer was being interogated by the Australian cop.
Where’s the cutoff? It wasn’t at the airport. But it’s pretty insignificant, so probably shouldn’t be included.
Somewhere, someone has done this and the guy’s wife walks into the garage and freaks out when she sees all the pieces of paper tacked up to the wall with strings connecting different sections together…
I don’t remember Kate, but Boone and Sawyer were definitely in the same police station at one time. Was Sawyer in the police stations for two different incidents? I personally can’t remember Kate intersecting with anyone in her flashbacks…
Now that you mention it, I could be wrong. Maybe Kate wasn’t in the police station with Sawyer. I forgot about the run-in that Boone had.
Could be; I still think there’s something going on with that car. It’s hit three separate lostaways: Michael, Kate & Locke.
Are most conspiracy buffs rational?
