Well, fiddlesticks. There goes my Lostie merit badge.
I don’t recall this being asked about-- does anybody remember the name of the little girl that Angsty pre-teen Ben befriended when his Dad got a job with Dharma? Is that conceivably Charlotte at all? Just wondering…
“Annie.” And that’s another mystery left hanging. Yes, it’s been speculated Charlotte is Annie, but I’m wondering if she and Ben ever spotted one another in their comings and goings, and if so, why they didn’t recognize each other.
But, duh, I suppose not necessarily. I saw a picture of MY childhood crush in the paper, and that fat old man was NOT my sweet babboo…
Her name was Annie if I remember correctly. I suppose she could be Charlotte if her mom changed her name after leaving the island to hide from the Dharma Initiative or something. But presumably Charlotte was young enough that mom thought she could get away with the whole “it was all in your immagination” routine, which sounds more like a younger kid to me.
Wasn’t that his childhood friend Annie?
Yeah… that’s right. Her name was Annie. Probably not the same girl.
I’m surprised nobody has deciphered the hieroglyphics on The Temple yet… I’ve been chking 4815162342.com every so often through the night. Those guys are crazy fast with this stuff… nothing yet.
This may have been discussed in last week’s thread when we first saw Young Rousseau, so I apologize if this is a repeat, but I am confused about Alex (Rousseau’s daughter). It is clearly established here that Alex’s father is the French dude Robert, who gets plugged in the head.
So, how the heck does Ben end up being her “father”? Was this covered in a previous episode and I forgot it? It’s obvious that he really does (did, I guess) think of Alex as his daughter, despite not being biologically his.
I guess I had actually thought that Ben and Rousseau had got it on, and was surprised to see her already pregnant upon arrival to the Island.
There’s other ways to get them, but I’ll explain later. It’s complicated.

Ben stole Alex from Rousseau and then raised her as his own.
Very mild spoiler:
You haven’t forgotten anything. According to an aritcle in TV guide this gets explained in an upcoming episode.
I still think Charlotte’s mother could have been Annie & Ben could be her father, but apparently I am quite alone here.
There ya go. Thanks!
More precisely, Jin was looking in that direction yelling at Charlotte to translate and Sawyer was all “well, translate, Miles!” and Miles was all “He’s Korean, I’m from Encino!”
Which, was funny
(yes I know someone mentioned the Encino bit, but Sawyer was funny too!)
I’m not so sure the Annie+Ben = Charlotte’s parents have any validity, only because it was stated that the mothers can not survive giving birth on the island. This was one of DI’s main issues (as well as the Other’s after the purge). So that would mean that Annie died after giving birth to Charlotte. But we know her mom got her off the island, and told her it was all her imagination. Unless she was raised by another, but that seems like too much.
If Annie is Charlotte, there seems to be a huge age difference between Ben and Charlotte now. This can be explained away be some time-hopping that Ben has gone through between the time C left and came back, but that, again, seems unlikely.
One thing that has me all :dubious: was the whole “EVERYONE MUST GO BACK” thing. Then, when only half of them show at the church, Eloise is all, “D’ok… I guess this’ll have to do, then…”
Although, from the previews for next week:
Looks like the rest of the O6 are going to make it after all. Not sure how that’s going to happen, but something, or someone (Locke?) convinces the “Hell No!” crew (Kate, Sayid, Hurley) that they need to go back too.
I’m not so sure about that.
-
Are you sure DI had an issue with it? It’s not clear to me when the problem started, although I may be forgetting something.
-
The babies die too, so Charlotte would not have survived her own birth.
In one of the podcasts:
Darlton emphasize the ambiguity of “all.” But yeah, it looks like the 06 go back, maybe because Des shows up, or maybe because Eloise tells such a compelling story.
Also, some folks are thinking that was Hurley’s voice broadcasting the original numbers that the Frenchies dialed into.
I think it’s pretty likely actually.
The last two numbers sound like him. I couldn’t hear the first ones as well.
-
Yeh, I’m not sure about that, now that you have me thinking about it. I suppose you’re right, since Rousseau gave birth without a hitch in '88.
-
Are we sure about that? I thought only the mothers were in danger. I couldn’t find it in Lostpedia… Damn, this show makes my head spin.
