Rousseau was already pregnant; only women who become pregnant on the island have a problem.

I’m pretty sure that the women die relatively early in the pregnancy. Too early for the babies to survive (especially withouth a NICU).
I’m thinking when Sun was pregnant, and Juliet convinced her to go to one of the hatches to determine when the baby was conceived. She didn’t seem concerned about her own fate, as much as the baby’s, because she was so happy it was Jin’s after all. The behavior from Sun and Juliet led me to believe the baby was never in any “island-centric” harm. Only that Sun would die, and she was okay with that.
Did Sun conceive on the island?
Yes. That’s why she was happy, even though it meant she would die if she didn’t get off the island. It meant the baby was Jin’s.
Here’s the Lostpedia link on pregnancy. It seems that most women die before their third trimester. I don’t know enough about obstetrics to know for sure, but I’m pretty sure that a baby that premature will generally not survive without serious medical intervention.
Didn’t the Others kidnap children (and Claire) because they couldn’t have any of their own?
Yeah that’s weird…the first coupla numbers sound like a radio announcer but the last two sound like Hurley. How weird.
I don’t think we’re entirely sure why the Others kidnapped the children/babies yet. That could be a reason, but I think there’s something deeper going on there.
Well, didn’t The Staff hatch have some sophisticated medical equipment? Perhaps they had a NICU there, considering their problem, and all.
I suspect the *reason *they (collectively) did it is because Jacob told Ben to do it. Maybe Ben had his own reasons and lied to them. Certainly Jacob had a reason (assuming we believe that time-travelling ghosts need or have reasons and assuming that’s what he is) but Jacob hasn’t talked much until last episode (assuming Christian is Jacob). And by the way, Christian had some of the best lines.
Locke: Ben said he know how to do it.
Christian: When was the last time listening to him worked out for you? (or something like that)
Question/theory: Did Ben really think Jacob wanted him to move the island instead of Locke or did he want to get off the island for his own reaons? Locke apparently does not realize that by moving the island, Ben killed him. Was that part of Ben’s plan?
I’m guessing they tried to make Hugo sound as generic as possible, so it would be immediately obvious. But it really makes sense that he’d be the one to record the original transmission, considering his history and all the time-travel stuff. OTOH, he’s terrified of those numbers, and wouldn’t even say them out loud if he didn’t have a DAMN good reason. So, if it is him, I’m curious as to what that will turn out to be.
I’m not so sure either of them had enough to go on, what with C/J being so damn terse and cryptic. All Locke had to go on was that he/they needed to move the island. It didn’t even occur to Locke, that it HAD to be him. Ben was the only one with the knowledge of how to even go about it.
I think C/J was just being coy, as zombie-island ghosts are wont to do. It’s alllll part of the “BIG PICTURE.”
Just popping in for a really shallow comment - the romantic storylines are the least interesting on this show (except for Des and Penny of course). That being said, I will be furious if Kate ends up with Jack and breaks Sawyer’s heart.
thanks! I give… they both die.
Kate is so hot for Sawyer, it’s stoopid. Jack’s too unbalanced and emotional for her. It’s as good a love triangle as any, but her and Sawyer just seem to fit better. I think maybe Jack will die in the end.
You mean he was conning Locke?
Imagine that!
Then again… it could go the other way — Sawyer could bite it in the end. Cue big, emotional scene. Forcing Kate into Jack’s arms. Otherwise, Jack hasn’t got a shot.
Other favorite line: “Turn it up! I love Geronimo Jackson!”
Charlotte clearly stated in this ep that her mum took her off the island and she never saw her father again. So I suspect she was either not born on the island, but brought to it as a small child and then again, whisked away before the Purge, or her mum arrived on the island pregnant like Rousseau and Claire. (Remember, you can give birth there if you show up already pregnant, but if you conceive on the island, you and the baby are SOL.) It sounded like she was pretty young when her mum took her back to England and convinced her that she imagined growing up on the island… so that leads me to believe that Charlotte and her mum missed the Purge completely. So Charlotte’s mum is not dead, as far as we know.
I don’t think Annie is Charlotte at all. What bothers me about Charlotte is why/when/how did she learn to speak Korean? Is it possible that Miles is actually Korean, but like Charlotte, doesn’t remember much about being on the island before? Did DI teach Charlotte Korean? Did Marvin Candles teach her so she could converse with his son? Has Miles forgotten all his Korean? (Is he even Korean at all?) I think there’s more to the language link than we know right now.
Yes, this was covered in a previous ep. I believe it was the last ep of last season or second to last ep of last season. Rousseau finally meets Alex, but before she does, she tells the Losties the story of how, after she gave birth, she saw the black smoke. A few days after the black smoke (not Smoky the Monster, but a plume from a campfire), the Others came and snatched Alex away from her and she never saw her again until she met her at Otherton (the barracks where Ben lived).
If you recall, there was a scene in which Ben introduces Alex to her mother (before he sends both off with “Your mother will keep you safe.”) and explains that he ‘adopted’ her and raised her as his own, and I can’t remember if he stops short of admitting that he kidnapped Alex, or if he comes right out and owns up to it. Shortly after that, he refers to Alex as “my daughter” and Rousseau gives him a Look That Kills and clobbers him in the head with the butt of her gun. (I love that scene.)
How do we know it was a son? All we saw was a baby. Maybe Charlotte is Chang’s daughter.
