As I read through the whole thread, I had marked many quotes to reference directly, but I inadvertently closed the browser, and when I returned the quote were unmarked (sometimes they don’t go away). DAMN HAMSTER!
Fortunately, I jotted down my thoughts as I went along (Lost threads require a pen a pad!)
If you feel I am addressing your point, I probably intended to quote you!
I also think Ben is not a physical being. My wife, who loves Lost (and she’s a hottie!) said that as soon as Christian looked at Locke on the ground. When did Christian get involved? I would have agreed he is just a zombie shell for Jacob, but his mention of Jack leads me to believe it is actually some form of Christian. I too believe he was once a surgeon, but did he have a double life other than an Australian love child? Is he Alvar Hanso or something?
Is it just me or did Ben seem surprised by Desmond’s revelation that Elloise was Daniel’s mother? You never know with Ben, but it was new emotion with him (of course, so was his hissy fit in the van, but we all know he was “Ben-ing” that time!)
I agree that Ben might have taken Locke’s place on purpose. Some form of jealousy. I’m guessing his apology might not have been 100% sincere. (I swear, “Ben-ing” should be a commonly accepted verb.)
I imagine the “Temple” that Smokey guards is indeed the same Temple that Ben sent to Other to when the commandos were attacking. Probably because he knew Smokey was there to guard it. We have been speculating that Smokey was actually named Cerberus since we saw the crazy map on the blast door in the hatch.
Speaking of Smokey, why do some people wind up in the temple, and others (like the pilot and the French girl from last night) wind up merely dead? I loved the arm severing, and I wonder if Marvin Candle tried to resist? Wait, he was Dharma, not an Other. My nose is also bleeding!
I don’t think Locke was affected when he saw the “Eye of the Island” because Smokey tries to pull him down the hole later in the series (someone said this exactly, I was just wanting to agree with that sentiment.) It does make me wonder if what Locke saw in that episode where he first killed boar was actually Smokey or something else. It seems as if he had seen it before, it wouldn’t scare him.
We always joke about how a fertility doctor from the U.S. (Juliet) learned Latin and how to be a badass. I wonder has she been to the bottom of the Temple?
I definitely think Charlotte’s mother and father will turn out to be somebody interesting. I’m guessing you guys are correct that it was Ben and Annie. Annie freaks out and leaves Ben, taking Charlotte. Ben is obsessed with children. Steals Alex. Gets Juliet to help with the babies. Snatches kids left and right.
It is a shame Charlotte died. It seems like just as annoying characters get interesting, Lost offs them. (e.g.- Shannon, Charlie, Libby…Boone was never interesting.)
As to how long it was between the time jump of the smokey scene and the time jump of the beach shoot out, I think the producers showed us the severed arm to indicate it had not been long. Otherwise, ants, scavengers, and rot would have claimed it long before.
I am glad we see that CFL was not lying. She did not snap and kill her party unnecessarily. They really did want to harm her.
I’m still thinking that French party was no “scientific” mission. They are acting too militaristic.
I wonder are the times the Losties are visiting are relevant to the plot (a grand purpose to every jump) or is it simply because the producers are answering questions by having our characters see the past? In other words, is it part of the story or just a way to tell the story?
Sayid didn’t have a lot of dialogue this episode, but he really made his (two?) lines count. Jack got lumped in with Ben!
Speaking of Jack, I might be the only person here who likes him. I don’t like Jack centric episodes, but I think MFox has created a very interesting character who is in over his head. Jack is like Dan Rather. Good in small doses.
I am starting to really believe these guys have a real plan to end this series in a satisfying manner. I think there may be unanswered questions, but those might be red herrings and questions we formed that really meant nothing all along. I think these guys know what they are doing!
If they can pull this all together, I think Lost will go down as the greatest show ever.
We don’t know that, Gfactor… Marvin Candles’s son is Miles = nothing but pure speculation on our part, at this point, but it certainly appears that’s the conclusion we’re supposed to draw. Otherwise, the birth of Candles’s son in the very opening scene of this season makes no sense and has no place, as it’s irrelevant. I haven’t discovered very many throwaway scenes in this series that are irrelevant to everything else, so there must be some reason we saw that baby’s birth… we must know who the baby is already but we haven’t connected the dots yet. This is why Farady asks Miles again if he’s ever been on the island before, Miles says no, and Faraday says, “Are you sure about that?” And clearly, Miles is suddenly not so sure.
One thing I’ve noticed, that I find slightly ham-handed, is whenever there’s a sort of mystery question asked like this, i.e., “Say hello to my son.” “Who’s your son?” the very next shot (usually a scene change) answers the last question from the last scene. In the case of my example, right after Locke asks “Who’s your son?” the next cut is to Jack’s face. We know Jack is Christian’s son, so that was no big revelation. But they always give us a big fat clue, if we’re paying attention.
So now I want to go back to the first ep (saved on my trusty DVR, of course) and see who the camera cuts to immediately after the scene with Candles and his son. Because if it’s Miles… then I have my answer. You can wait for other evidence if you need to.
It’s been a long time since I saw the first season episodes, but was the smoke monster more clear last night than when we first saw it? I figured that was because the computer graphics technology improved in the past five years.
Has the theory that Aaron and Ji Yeon are Adam and Eve been floated yet? If they ALL need to go back it would make sense that Sun’s baby has to go back too since she was pregnant with him when they crashed.
Ugh, apparently Faraday is only capable of a very low whisper with a tilted head no matter what situation he’s in. He’s featured in today’s LOST video podcast; if you have a science background, you’ll find Jeremy Davies’ explanation about physics HILARIOUS.
Am I the last one to notice the parallels between Christian dying and being resurrected on the island and Locke dying and being resurrected on the island? Was Christian the Locke before Locke?
Right, exactly like Locke is in the forward time. Alpert told Locke he had to die to get back to the island, so he killed himself in LA, then Ben & Jack grabbed his coffin to bring him back to the island. Remember the van Ben is driving - Canton Rainer - is an anagram for reincarnation. So the theory goes that Locke killed himself because that is the only way for him to get back to the island, where ostensibly he comes back to life, just like Christian did. Am I making any sense here?
