Lost 5.6 "316"

For me, it was the “Miss Francis explains how to make a  VOLCANO  with baking soda and vinegar to the kiddies” tone she adopted that made it work.

Quibble–you misspelled “attracts and deserves:wink:

Has anyone read Lois McMasters Bujold’s Vokosigan stuff? Imagine if Miles were completely amoral—and on the other side. That’s what Ben reminds me of. “…you almost had me convinced. You, guard. Take him and throw him out an airlock. If he says one word to you, you have my order to cut his tongue out. It’s his most dangerous weapon.”

And don’t forget–if I was worried about recreating the conditions of the crash, while making sure that there I saved as many people as possible, I’d also remember that there were Tailies in the original crash as well. If the tail-end is empty, the situation isn’t duplicated.

Remember when Jack was drinking in the bar? There was a cute blonde eyeballing him. I wonder if somehow, she ended up on the plane in Anna Lucia’s role.

That’s part of exactly what I hated about it. Especially when one of the Losties volunteered to finish her sentence by saying “The Island?” and she practically gave the Lostie a gold star and a pat on the back, as though “the Island” wasn’t the most perfectly obvious way to finish her sentence even if you were completely clueless about everything else.

If she had been explaining anything to them which justified the ‘Miss Francis explains…’ tone you mentioned, that would have been one thing.

I noticed that they seemed to be highlighting her, but I chalked it off to a deleted scene or something.

I’m still not convinced there were a lot of people on the plane. I need to review the episode…

I don’t like this either. (Why it bothers me is a bit perplexing though because by all rights there should be a whole bunch of stuff that bothers me. So it goes.)

Why does Locke have to die to bring them all back to the island? It seems to me that Locke being on flight 316 alive is a closer replication to flight 815 conditions than him being a dead proxy to Dr. Shepard. Find some random dead body for that. 316 can’t have a proxy for every single person on 815 anyway.

Perhaps I’ll be placated with a good explanation next week as they focus on Locke’s death. Perhaps not.

Any time the girl has any trauma in her life she runs to the nearest guy for “comfort.” Pretty whoreish if you ask me.

I am not a Kate fan but I can not fault her this. If given the opportunity I would happily be the filling in a Jack/Sawyer sandwich. Hell, I’d even take on Desmond, Jin, Miles and Daniel. Okay, not all at once, I’m not as young as I once was.

Some things unanswered but I think we are supposed to make the obvious conclusion;

  1. Charlie’s ghost appeared to Hurley again, hence why Hurley knew which flight to take and why he had a guitar case. (Of course it could be full of twinkies but then again, Occam’s Razor and all).

  2. Kate gave Aaron to Claire’s mother. She knew it would not be safe to take him back to the island and she left him with family. Perhaps Claire’s “ghost” appeared to her again and told her that Kate had to return to the island but she did not want her to bring Aaron. Kate didn’t want to talk about it because she had been raising the child as her own for three years and she was a bit attached to him so it was just too painful to explain. You know, it’s complicated.
I was a bit bothered by the comparisons of Locke to Jesus in this episode (okay not directly but it was implied) and in the previews it even looked like someone was kneeling down in front of Locke (Ben, maybe?) as he got on the chair to hang himself. He was also surrounded by light. A bit too weird for me.

It also looks like we are in for a full-on resurrection once Locke’s body reaches the island.

Also, if we could maybe add this link to the ones in the weekly OP, the episode recaps are usually really good and in-depth (no spoilers either):

Yeah, it looks to me like we are being set up for Jack as the Doubting Thomas who will be converted to a man of faith when Locke is resurected.

Oops. I forgot to spoiler tag that last post. I pm’d a mod to have them fix it.

Actually, according to the OP: “Information about this week’s episode’s “next week” teasers will be unboxed.” So I should not have boxed mine. Nevertheless, I think we’re better safe than sorry, so I went ahead and fixed it for you.

I have a question that I don’t think has been brought up, and about which I had forgotten until now:

Ben, I think, asked Jack at some point if he knew that Locke had killed himself, and Jack said no. But, in the season 3 finale when Jack is reading the obituary, wasn’t the obit visible enough that websites were able to post it online, zoomed in? And didn’t the obit say that he had hanged himself?

Even more, I think there might have been a point where Ben said something to Jack like, “They don’t usually put obituaries in the paper when someone kills himself…” I could be mis-remembering that, though. I don’t have time to watch the episode again, but does anyone remember either of these strange things in Wednesday’s episode?

The article did say it was “deemed a suicide.” http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com/2007/05/newspaper-through-looking-glass.html

I think Mrs. Hawking said something to the effect that they leave the details out in the case of a suicide.

Jack should have known that the obit said it was a suicide, although he may have doubted it. He also should have known that Locke hung himself. Even if the obit hadn’s said so, if he’d checked out the body, he could probably tell, what with his medical training and all.

ETA: Ben is a big fat liar, so I don’t think we can put much credence in what he says. And to correct my original statement that the obit didn’t say Locke was found hanging.

If Hurley is the one ethical person (Odd isn’t it, that so many of the Losties on that plane are murderers- Ben, Sayid, Kate, ??) then when he saw all the innocents in the back, why not just go refuse to fly, based upon the chance that maybe that means the plane won’t crash? That’s what I’d do.

We don’t know what he was told to get him on the plane. Maybe the argument was compelling enough to make the sacrifice worth it. Perhaps the consequences of not getting back to the island are so disastrous that the potential loss of life on the plane is mild by comparison.

Or maybe he’s just crazy.

I think (but could be wrong) that the airline name is “Ajira” (no leading H). May still have meaning - especially with the similarity to Hegira.

No. You are correct: Ajira Flight 316 | Lostpedia | Fandom

Loose ends I really want cleared Up:
-Why some people flash through time and some don’t. Juliet is time traveling with the losties. Why?
-What about the children - from the plane; Walt; Jin & Sun’s baby; Aaron; baby Charlie. Surely some of them are special like Walt was.
-Why does Ms Hawking work with Ben and Widmore, which I think she does.
