Have I got this right? Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sayid landed, sans plane, on the main island in 1977. Sun, Ben and the rest of the passengers landed, in the plane, on the second island in the present day.
Yep. I did kind of suspect it when a couple of episodes ago two of the plane crash survivors (Caesar and the other gal) were poking around inside a Dahrma station and it was abandoned. If they were in 1977 I think they would have found Dahrma people there.
Add to that the fact that Ben knew where the boats were located (present day). It would have been a lucky guess to find boats there in 1977.
Correct–and that makes little-to-no sense as we understand things–Sun (and probably Lepetius) should be back with the O6.
It depends: if Faraday’s right and “What happened, happened”, then no. If he’s wrong (and he was with Desmond) then “Yes.”
ChuckForbin hit on an interesting point…
Perhaps Ben didn’t time warp into 1977 because he can’t, as there is already a Ben taking up space in the 1977 island.
If that is true, is it possible that Sun is also on the 1977 island as a teenager and that’s why she didn’t warp either?
I think our Losties will be directly involved in the purge. Ben will manipulate them all into helping him, so they’ll live through it as well. They have to, because otherwise they wouldn’t show up in the 2004-2007 story lines. The question for me is who will end up on which side? We’re bound to lose at least one more major character – as has been suggested on spoiler sites, but it also just stands to reason. You can’t get through a season of Lost without offing some of the players, right? God forbid we lose Sawyer though… But I think it’s entirely possible that our Losties shift from being Dharmites to being Others.
And Sun rocks. She did exactly the same thing to Ben that Ben did to Locke: get the information she needed out of him and then WHACK! “I lied.” :: snerk ::
I agree that Sawyer is the best leader out of the lot: Locke, Jack, Kate, even Sayid.
Is it just me, or does Juliet look to be about 6’4"? She looks like she could kick the living shit out of Kate.
I liked the episode. What I didn’t like is the amount of commercial breaks they threw in. It was every two minutes!
It also seemed to me that Sun’s facial injuries were larger/fresher/brighter colored than they were in the scene when she clocked Ben. I’m not sure if that should be put down to the island healing her or the dislike of making a beautiful actress less beautiful.
OTOH, the island doesn’t seem to have cured Ben superfast after Sun’s headbashing. (Now I’m drawing a blank – who was it that got escorted to see Ben among the wounded?)
As usual, Hurley had the best lines:
“So what’s up with you guys in the old DHARMA jumpsuits?”
“It’s 1977”
“uhhh…what?”
“Dude your English is awesome!”
If Jack is the “Workman” what’s Ben’s dad doing? Or can we assume there is more than one janitor?
I seem to remember that we have been shown Sun’s birthday as 1980, but I’m not sure where I’m remembering that from.
I don’t think the Losties will be around for the Purge, since it’s still 15 years from when they are now. It seems more likely that they’ll be involved in the “incident”, which should be coming up soon in the timeline.
Hopefully they’ll end up giving an explanation for why Sun didn’t flash with the rest of the O6. One reason I can think of is that she wasn’t standing in for any of the passengers on the original flight:
Jack = Jack, escorting a body
Sayid = Kate, in custody
Hurley = Charlie, with guitar
Kate = Claire, pregnant with Christian’s grandchild ()
Something strange is going on with post 48.
It was originally my me, and I posted that it looked to me that Sun’s facial injuries were noticeably improved in the time between she heads off into the jungle after Ben and the time they arrive at the beach.
I added that Ben’s headwounds (presumably from Sun’s bashing) didn’t seem to be healing at a miraculous rate, given his appearance in the ‘wounded ward’ an episode or two ago. Then I asked who it was that had been taken to see Ben.
All that has vanished and now the post has part of my message being a quote from someone else, followed by ‘me’ answering my own question.
Has someone been fiddling with the Donkey Wheel?
There is no confirmation yet, but strong evidence points to Miles being Marvin Candle/Edgar Haliwax/Dr. Chang’s baby son who we saw in the season premiere before the “incident” at the Orchid (Marvin got a nosebleed during the flashes). We know that must have happened before 1977 because Faraday is apparently gone at that point. So island doubles are possible, it would seem.
That could be a problem. The time travelling bunnies weren’t supposed to touch. Maybe Miles touching his younger self is “the incident”.
It was on the grave marker in Korea. One side listed Jin’s DOB and (supposed) DOD, the other had Sun’s DOB. 1980 is correct.
Damn Dharma beer. Yeah. I screwed it up big time by hitting the wrong button and not paying attention to what I was doing. Sorry.

ETA: I tried to put it back the way it was. If it’s still not right, please let me know. Again, sorry.
At this point, I’m not convinced that Sun, Ben, and company are in the present – the way the island has been bouncing folks around, they could conceivably be in the future.
I doubt they’ll be around for the purge. That would require them to be around another 15 years and age 15 years. I can’t see that happening. I expect them to find a way back to the present inside of a years time.
Except there was that “Thirty Years Earlier” shown when the show went from the plane to the Dharma people.
No problem. It just struck me as weird, and weirdly appropriate in a thread about whether one can change the past.
The answer is apparantly ‘yes.’
The really weird thing was I managed to edit the post in such a way that I also mangled the edit-trail. This show does not mix well with moderating.
