LOST 6.5 "Lighthouse"

Yes, I think that’s exactly what it meant. I noticed that, too.

I know this is an impossibility in any timeline, but did anyone else think that “David” looked like he could be the son of Jack+Kate?

Exactly as a true fan should be!

Kate and Jack kind of share many features, so any kid that looked like Jack would also look like Kate.

I seem to remember Hugo often serving as “the voice of the fans”. Hugo rules!

Well, since I offered a wild theory last week that looks like it was totally wrong, let me offer another one:

The lighthouse brings people to the island, but it does so because it’s the gateway that Jacob and others could use to mess around in the lives of people and steer them to the island. Turn the wheel to ‘Jack’, and you can interfere in Jack’s life. So when Jack saw his house, he was sort of seeing a portal that someone like Jacob can go through.

So when Jack smashed the mirror, he broke the island’s link to his other life. Notice that immediately after he did so, they cut back to Jack and his kid suddenly resolving their differences. Until then, Jack-at-home was messed up - he couldn’t seem to remember his kid’s piano playing or that he had had his appendix out. His kid was estranged from him. It looked like he was headed towards a breakdown - perhaps exactly the kind of thing that would drive him to the island again. That all stopped as soon as the mirror was smashed.

In this theory, Jacob wanted Jack to go there, because he knew Jack would be Jack and smash the thing. And Jacob wants it smashed - perhaps because Esau also uses it, and Jacob has what he wants and doesn’t want Esau to bring anyone else.

I agree that the name Wallace is probably a red herring, but I think the bearing has a different purpose.

I noticed the fire pit in front of the mirrors. I think that, in addition to allowing Jacob to spy on people, the lighthouse can be used as… a lighthouse. To guide ships to safety.

Someone (almost certainly Desmond) is going to be arriving by ship. He’s going to show up whether the lighthouse is lit or not (thus Jacob’s attitude of, “Whatever. He’ll turn up somehow.”) but Desmond might not arrive safely. Desmond is going to arrive in a storm, or some other emergency situation. If Hurley had turned the mirrors to 108 degrees and lit the fire, Desmond would have been able to see the light and guide his ship to the Island safely. However, because Jack smashed the mirrors and the fire was never lit, Desmond’s boat will sink, possibly killing Penny and Little Charlie.

Actually, Little Charlie won’t die, mainly because the writers don’t want to kill a child. Charlie will float to shore and be found by Claire, who will think that he is Aaron.

Okay, this one makes more sense than Aaron and fits better than “Aim”

How does anything fit better than “aim”? It’s exactly what Hurley was sent to do–aim at 180.

I meant word length-wise. Arrow fits better over his scribbling handwriting than aim does. And there was an arrow that pointed at the numbers. So maybe it meant “Set arrow to 108”

I read the LOST threads avidly but have rarely posted since I generally get here late and rarely have an idea that someone else hasn’t already come up with. This time however I think I have one (unless I missed it  ).

Unless Flocke was lying the cave and its list belonged to Jacob. I’m inclined to think it did, Flocke seemed very smug about being there, throwing the white stone away and so on. Could it be then that the lighhouse belongs to the MIB and its list is his list. It would make sense in that MIB is the one confined to the island so he would be the one who would need the mirrors to spy on and perhaps exert influence on the candidates. If I’m right then it’s no wonder Jacob didn’t seem concerned about the smashing of the mirrors – You throw my stone away and I smash your mirrors.

Having just checked Lostpedia and seen that the images Jack saw, the pagoda where Sun and Jin got married, the church where Sawyer’s parents were buried are the places where Jacob encountered and touched the candidates, so it’s possible that it was Jacob that MIB was spying on.

A final thought about Christian Shephard’s missing coffin in the alternative timeline, did it make it to the island?

That’s an interesting theory, but isn’t it 2007 on the island and 2004 off the island? Of course, Faraday proved that time is wonky on the island, but I don’t think the flash sideways are supposed to be concurrent.

I don’t think they were linked events, but rather a storytelling parallel.

I read in another review that Hurley seems to be becoming Jacob’s Moses. Which makes me think, what if Jacob is setting up Hurley to be the next Richard to whoever is Jacob’s replacement? Think about it, he’s the only one that gets to see Jacob, and he’s bringing his messages to other people. He even brought a list to the Temple guy.

And in the bible Moses had…Aaron!

/okay, yeah that’s a stretch

I sure did–he looked a lot like Kate. But when Jack’s and Kate’s eyes met on the plane in sideways time, they didn’t seem to recognize each other.

I am probably way off base here, but it amuses me to think that “Wallace” could be a nod tothis book and its young protaganist, Charles Wallace.

does quiet fist pump

A couple people have grouped Jack not remembering his appendix with Jack not remembering David’s piano playing. The first is Jack not remembering; the second is Jack not knowing. He only sees the kid once a month, and the David doesn’t tell him anything. There was even a scene where they discuss why David hid his piano playing from Jack. So it’s not correct to say Jack didn’t remember the piano playing; he didn’t know about it in the first place.

He knew when David was younger, of course, but we’re supposed to think that at some point after Jack’s divorce David resumed his piano playing without telling Jack, and made his mom promise not to tell Jack either.

Very good. But somebody is plagiarizing somebody, as it is all over the blogs.

How the eff are you guys getting these ultra-high resolution images? Keys to the producers’ closets?

[Beginning the slow clap.]
