M-O-O-N that spells MMP

Hey Mooom! Thanks, that’s exactly the type of response I needed! Getting older is hard work, and the added bucket of health issues and a lot of sadness is a beyotch, but I am not going to continue to self-isolate and allow the depression to own me the way I have been. Nope, gonna come be an active member of the Dope again! Prepare to listen to my stories y’all, I see there is a huge new audience in the MMP, so while I get to know all the new faces, I’ll show my own again!

Hey shoe! That is your nick in here, right? I have seen you around, but it’s nice to make it formal! I don’t like that the new place does not show our locations (for those of us who put the real place in!) but I think we are neighbors, aren’t you in Oregon? I am north of Seattle, just not as far north as fly boy. I also saw a couple of casual comments you made about your current job, and if you are doing what I think you are doing, Hey there, friend! After my own opioid crisis, guess how I manage my pain! *note: Upon further reading you confirmed what I was thinking, so hey! Hiya, new friend! Also, I feel that I probably stole that quote, or at least the idea of it, so steal away! Brain fog, what can I say?

Every time I see SCAdian my brain sees it SCAnadian, lol, that’s what I get for living so close to Canada while having slightly scrambled brains! I toyed with the intent to join the SCA, but I can’t think of a good way to make the chair less than mundane. I would imagine that very young children would make it difficult to get into the role play, but please, indoctrinate them now so you and your missus can go play with the merrie revelry folk again!

nut working on a rose farm, in Australia no less, would have been such a dream job for me! I mean, yeah, hot sun and thorns, but roses! Australia! You live an interesting life, I have meant to tell you that for a long time.

Thank you nellie, you totally nailed it. I really appreciate the encouragement, that’s what I need. The energy sap is one of the worst things about all of this.

Hey doggio! T’anks for da hugs my friend! Ya know, grey would be muted and I could slip into my crone-age gently, even white, like Emmy Lou. But no, mine is silver. Sparkly silver that my kid refers to as tinsle! I suppose that I am destined to continue to be the brightly colored eccentric hippie chick. There are worse things I could be. T’anks for the flirt! tacklehug

Well, the kid is here, having dropped her honey off at work. We are going to take a break from the afternoon heat and do some more Netflix binge watching. We are in the 4th season of Haven, and I have really been enjoying it. Stephen certainly kept a hand in the making of this show, which makes it eminently watchable. Toodles for now!

Evening all. One of the predicted scattered thunderstorms managed to pop up right overhead about an hour ago and has dropped enough rain to mean that watering the lawn is not needed. It also dropped the temperature to 78F, a good 10-12 degrees cooler than the last few days. Dinner is being radiated in the microwave, so i’ll be Mac-n-Cheesing out here in a little bit.

Changed nappage from the afternoon to late morning (10:30-11:30) and that seems to have worked well, we’ll see what the night brings.

SCAdian, I see your point, how does Herald sound, since you mention it.

wiki, tough go, but sounds like you’re not going to let that stop you, and we’re here to provide support (and the occasional snark).

FCM, saw your Facebook video with Roxy at the playground…they need to grease up that slide a little bit. And good thoughts on brother’s surgery.

shoe, I think I won a $5 ticket way back when the Ohio Lottery was just starting, then never won a single cent since… And glad both you and the dishes will be properly clean by now.

Nut, “worked on a rose farm in Australia…” there’s got to be a story there.

talkative, try to set up certain “dates” with your mom, that’ll let you schedule (and ignore) other stuff and it’ll give her something to look forward too. IMHO.

Rain has passed on and the Mac-n-Cheese is agreeably sliding down my throat, so all is well. Off to internettin’ and readin’ for the evening.

All y’all take care.

How does one get to be a new face in the MMP?

Obviously, I’m new to SDNB, but having a GREAT time and plenty of it.

You are now, Boo! And welcome!

Well, 3B, you are now officially a member of the MMP - all it takes is a post. We’re the most inclusive exclusive club you can hope to find!

As might be expected, since I watered the garden, rain is now looking like it’ll move in (if weather radar is to be trusted.) So that one bed will get a double drink - no biggie!

And on that note, I think I’ll shut down this big 'puter and spend the rest of the evening on my tablet. Because.

MWAH!!!

Consider this a squeal of delight from Nebraska!

My therapist is right, I should just ask for what I need. Dang, I will have to tell her!

Boo out.

MWAH back atcha’ all !

Well, I just got bawled out by the discourse nanny for writing too many short replies and told abruptly to do it right. I did not understand their instructions how to multi quote within a block, so I am not in compliance even with this reply. Time out corner, here I come.

Is there a tutorial somewhere I can study so I can play with you big kids? I will need very explicit steps how to get to said tutorial. The conversion to Discourse was not kind to whatever I had managed to learn about the old SDMB, so say nothing about me being an Old Pharte when it comes to computing.

dicey, I live across the street from a decommissioned AFB and part of the base still houses an Army NG unit. I hear military copters from time to time and we have an air show most years, so it gets a bit loud.

Glad your brother did well Moooooom.

I’m kind of likeing Herald as your nick.

{{{wiki}}} Getting old is for the birds some days.

Irked, came home, walked the dog and et. Such an exciting life! It was a bit cooler today than yesterday (95F vs 99F) and we’ll likely have TBoomers this evening again.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Oh, Mumpers. The trip to the pharmacy did not go too well. Joint pain hit right after my last post, but I’m pretty good at forcing myself through that stuff. I got to the pharmacy, and sure enough (sho 'nuff to you southern Mumpers), there was a covidiot without a mask in there. Walgreen’s will post the big sign saying masks are required but won’t follow through. But that’s just the beginning. [I posted this in the covidiots thread, so if you read it there, just skip, please.]

When I stepped up to the Rx counter, I saw the tech wore her mask below her nose. Well, frick. I asked if they mailed Rx’s, and she said yes, but not this one, as it has to be refrigerated. I said, "Oh. Dang. I hate to come in here because people don’t wear masks or [meaningful stare at her nose] wear them incorrectly. Whereupon she pulled up her mask and told me most masks don’t do much anyway.

Crud. I wish I had some other option.

Tomorrow will be better.

Wiki, I only know because I’ve been there. Actually, I live there.

Shoe, nothing beats the feeling of getting clean. Glad they showed you how to deal in the future.

Doggio, we wouldn’t weigh 500 pounds because we’d put Roxie in charge of mandatory fitness: what she does, we do.

Talkative, what does your mom do when you’re not there? Does she have outside interests, or is she dependent on you?

The continuing sage of PWAISDN… About a month ago, our governor allowed hair salons to reopen under specific conditions. We met said conditions and there was much rejoicing from his clients. Last week, the Guv says “Ehh, on second thought, shut it down again” so instant unemployment returns. Yesterday, he says “Yanno, if you wanna cut hair in your parking lot, go ahead. Here’s some more conditions…” So we’ll soon be screwing an easy-up to the pavement behind the salon so it doesn’t blow away, and figuring out new operational challenges.

If it wasn’t for that CARES bump going away next week, he’d be better off staying on unemployment.

nellie - write some complaints to Walgreens. Pharmacy staff are required to wear masks. Their website lists a physical corporate HQ address, you can call them, and they are on Facebook.

FCM: Looked up DTNSRDC – it appears to have been at Carderock, just upriver from DC. I see you’re in the Straight Dopers group on FB. Do you accept friend requests from internet weirdos?

DieC, the D&S (destroyer & submarine) piers at NOB Norfolk are right under the approach for the naval air station. Every big plane that came in for a landing set off alarms in the car park…

3B, to multiquote you just quote and quote again (and again and again…) and don’t hit “Reply” until you’re finished quoting and responding. There is a tutorial of some sort somehere around here, but I’ve never used it and can’t find it.

Ok, ready to practice…

Practicing some more…hold it

Sorry all the rest of you had to read this while I practiced. Just didn’t want to get scolded by the Discourse nanny again…

rushes in dramatically

OMFG you guys. I’m so clean. My toes are clean. My butt’s all clean. My hair is clean. I got some sort of rush from it all and decided, in case I wanted eggs, to wash my little frypan and my favorite knife and - before ya know it - I’ve got a rackful of clean dishes.

Being this clean demands fresh sheets, so that has been accomplished as well, including the dreaded Changing of the Fitted Sheet.

I was so blissed out I sat myself down and painted my nails which happens about as rarely as whores comin’ to church.

All hail the working Hot Water Heater may various creative blessings be upon it.

OMG! ME TOO!!! IT’S SO GREAT!

Thanks for the advice, gotti. I sent Walgreens HQ a message on their website a month or so ago, when I first realized they weren’t requiring masks and never got a reply. I’ll check out their Facebook page.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work. The current heat index is …88.

OMG, we’d all be in traction within a week - even the young 'uns!

Don’t worry - now that the Prez has said we should all wear masks, everything will be fine… What? Snark? Moi??

I just did this - picked the post I wanted to answer and hit Reply in its lower right corner, then went to my reply window and hit the quote button on the upper left. Then I go thru and delete what I’m not specifically going to address and start my reply after the close quote thingie. And I see you already got advice, but I’m not going to change this. So there!

As for being an Old Pharte - is that older or younger than 66? I need to know whether to tell you to stay off my lawn or not.

Got an email from my Bro - he was actually discharged last night! Who knew brain surgery was an outpatient procedure?!? Anyway, he’s home and under orders to chill as he recovers. I’m pretty sure he will listen to the Doc, unlike some people…

Also last night, we got some serious t-boomers and rain. One of the booms scared the crap outta me! I was in that dozey stage right before sleep when KA-BOOOOOOOM!!! I had to play a few rounds of one of my stupid tablet games to calm myself.

We’ve got an appointment at 8:30 to look at a house, but the realtor said no one has lived there for 10 years and the well and septic are questionable. We already know there’s no kitchen stuff in the house - we could see that much thru the windows. But we know how to install cabinets, etc. We can’t DIY a well and septic, so that may kill the deal. But we’re going to look anyway.

OK, that’s enough for now. Happy Wednesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slug abed until seven a.m.! :open_mouth: ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 95 and mostly N.O.S. but with a slight chance of rain. We shall see. It did rain last night around ten for bout half an hour. It was a big rain and ‘tis all wet out as a result. OYKW is purtifyin’ as I post. He is goin’ to make a trip to the Pubic sto’ for provisions. I re-supplied our health and beauty stuff as well as picked up some foodwise necessities whilst at :open_mouth: Wally*World :open_mouth: yestiddy. He’s gonna get some shrimpies, so tonight’s sup will be shrimpies 'n grits with steamed asparagus. YUM!

{{{wiki}}} geezerdom has its perks, but aches and pains ain’t one of ‘em. Glad you’re goin’ to come in and play more.

shoe yay for hawt water!

nellie maybe an email to Walgreen’s corporate will be helpful. Look up the store number and call it out personally.

I read all but have retained not a lot, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around as needed.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s kinda sunny, kinda cloudy but still warm enough to have the windows open today. Someone up the street is having building work done that sounds like it involves an angle-grinder so it’s a bit noisy, and the idiot next door decided to pressure wash and vacuum his car at stupid o’clock this morning which meant I was awake earlier than I’d hoped to be.

After the gym débacle, I found out that one of the class instructors is doing outdoor classes in a local park so I turned up to that last night. I’d forgotten what real exercise feels like, and I’m definitely feeling it today. She runs another session in the same park on Saturday so I’ll aim for that one as well. In between, I have online Rockfit sessions I can do so finally some exercise to proper music

3B welcome to the MMP, don’t forget to use a coaster, and watch out for flytrap, he’s a bit odd. And don’t worry about the squidgoat, it’s relatively harmless…

kai, good to see you here again, you’re right that getting old is hard work all round. But you know we are always here when you need to vent, and most of us have been there in some way, shape or form.

Irking today, still irksome, my boss is off for the rest of the week and I have whispers no meetings in my calender / whispers Long may it continue! Grocery shopping tonight, and I cheated by taking a couple of tubs of homemade chilli out of the freezer for dinner later - my turn to cook tonight, and I want something quick and easy.

Onwards, ever onwards!
