M-O-O-N that spells MMP

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work. The heat index is 89 already.

Morning, mumpers! Cool and breezy here today which is very welcome, I does not like heat. Windows are open, angle-grinder is in operation up the street again, so not sure how long the window in my room will stay open with all that noise.

Moooom - good news on your brother’s op, I’m glad he came through it ok and I hope he is sensible enough to take the doc’s advice about getting plenty of rest while he recovers. My pub friend is back home after an ileostomy reversal operation with similar instructions. He emailed me yesterday to say he can’t drink beer for at least six weeks, and he can’t drive for 10 weeks…but he’s bought a reciprocating saw and a new hedge-trimmer instead!

metalmouse how does a single person manage 5 loads of laundry? I manage one load a week, two if I’m doing bedding as well (apart from the 15min express wash for my gym stuff).

Our favourite local pub is open again and we had news that the kitchen has now reopened. Booked in for dinner tomorrow evening…yummy Nepalese curry is coming my way

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and maybe rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon. Or not. TWPTB are all willy-nilly on that. We may or may not be in for a rainy weekend as well. The big item on today’s agenda is mowage. Woo and Hoo. It must be done as da yahd is on the verge of bein’ the worst in da ‘hood and we just cannot have that now can we! Sup shall be BLT’s and fries due to a gnawin’ and cravin’. Last night OYKW snapped beans while I cut corn off the cob and sliced up squishes. We live it up! Anywho, we did all that and they are in da freezer and will be cooked for Sunday’s planned feast. Herald not an entire beast just a hunk o’ one.

MOOOOOOM glad bro came through the surgery and is home to recoop.

MG vulgar, crude, and juvenile are the hallmarks of good humor!

The GC here has some surprisingly good and fresh tastin’ stuff on the hog trough buffet. Plus they have a chawklit pie that is to die for! Had to have two slices of that yestiddy.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Last night was another of nice, steady rain, with a few t-boomers in the background. But it only dropped to 72° and it still felt muggy when I let Higgs out. Today’s walk will be another sweaty one. More rain may be on tap later today, but I think it’ll stay dry enough for me to get one load out on the lines to dry. The other load goes in the dryer, as I don’t have the patience to hang out all our unders and socks from the last 2-ish weeks. Plus I don’t think I have enough clothes pins for all that.

Supper will be rotissed chickie - sides TBD for now. And we may or may not look at a couple of other houses with the kids. Her realtor sent a couple last night that show real promise.

Beyond that, not a lot on the agenda. I should probably wave a mop over the kitchen floor - a chore on a par with dusting in my book. I need a live-in tidier, dammit!

For now - onward to read the rest of the daily comics! Happy Thursday!

The schools here are all planning to open mid August. My company tests and inspects the fire alarms for one of the local school districts. Two high schools, three middle schools and about fifteen elementary schools, all needing to be tested by August 18th. A week ago, We were informed that the company has gotten the contract for a second school district about the same size also needed to be complete by August 18th. This gives my department 23 working days to test all of the smoke detectors and manual pull stations in forty or so schools in addition to the rest of our accounts and service calls. August is also the month in which we test the buildings on three campuses of the local Community College

There are four of us. One is out on Corona Quarantine for at least another week. Another is a man with a rather dubious skill set. It will be an interesting three weeks.

On a good note (at least for me) I retire eight weeks from tomorrow.

The schools in our county are going to open virtually - I haven’t seen the plan for getting kids back to the classrooms. Not sure how this will affect my daughter - she teaches in a private school that will have about 35 students in grades 6-12, so distancing will be possible. But I don’t know if her boss has made a decision yet or if they’ll follow the county guidance.

Just back from my walk - I’m slowing down! It took 62 minutes to go just over 3 miles! Then again, considering the humidity, I think I done good!

Now, time for laundry!

Grumpy. Did not sleep well, got up about 0630 and nappage is a definite possibility. Looking at the weather report and I may mow the lawn this afternoon instead of Firday, as the chance of rain is above 60% both Firday and Sattiday. We’ll see.

Not sure what the schools here will do, High School football is the be-all/end-all for lots of folks, so if the schools don’t open I don’t know what will happen.

susan, boofae, the loads aren’t that big (they are for only one person) and the washer/dryer are side by side so the washer does load 2 while the dryer takes care of load 1 and so on. That said, it does take an appreciable amount of the day, so I started early (like 7:30am).

Nettie, good news on the husband side. Hope he keeps improving.

gotti, yeah, GC is not the Ritz, but I can get Pot Roast with noodles and gravy which was my Mom’s go-to for my youth, and the soup and salad and chocolate cake are pretty good. Just have to know what you want. And hopefully your package arrives today…well, arrives somewhere…

All y’all take care.

G’murnin’ all … imma grumpy because I lost a day off, and am trying to look forward to the extra money instead.

Ask me in a cpl weeks if (or how much) of that sweet, sweet overtime $ I got.

Supposed to be off today… but hey, at least I was asked a day ahead, instead of while I’m at work already (“Heyyyyy … can ya stay an extra two hours?”) We lost a few staffers, one temporarily and two permanently, and I iz taahhhhred!

But TOMORROW continues to be a scheduled Blessed Day Off All To Myself, and I plan to sleep through a lot of it.

Happy Thorsday!

It’s humid, wet, and cloudy outside, but a not so hot 75 degrees.
All of the dogs were lazy this morning.
I think my two are still wiped out from yesterday.

I wish, of course there is nothing I can do about it, but I like all of my park friends.
However, there are people there who don’t like other people so PersonA will leave if PersonB shows up, and PersonC will leave if PersonD shows up, and there is always that little awkward moment when it’s obvious why they are leaving.
I’m like Echo, I like it when everybody shows up. Of course, it everybody shows up then PersonA can talk to other people and avoid PersonB, and PersonC can avoid PersonD, kind of sort of, since PersonB and PersonD are loud and tend to dominate the conversation.

I’m grumpy today too.

I’m not a fan of GC. I ate there a few times, it was okay. Ryan’s was better.

I think the schools up here are opening in January, but there have been a lot of school busses out and about lately. It looks like they are driving routes, so maybe school will start in September up here.
I know all the kids that come to the park are hoping that the schools reopen. They don’t like online learning, mostly because they miss seeing their friends.

I need to finish the laundry from yesterday and wash towels. The ones used around the base of the toilet, so I’ll add bleach and let them soak for a while. I need to cook something for a change. I took pork chops out to thaw last night, don’t know what else I’ll have. I’ve had fast food for the last four days, and that is not a good thing. I don’t feel like cooking.

Forgot to mention - when I took Roxy to the playground the other day, there were a bunch of kids in what looked like soccer practice. All distancing, but all kicking balls. There was also a yoga class under the trees. So things are happening here.

We’re going to look at a little house this afternoon. The one they were really interested in has a contract already - it seems to happen overnight. The market here is crazy!

You know what you can ship by UPS? tiny motor cycles. Also a busted box of a thousand rounds of .22LR. Somebody was either getting ready for target shooting, or dealing with 30-50(thousand) feral hogshamsters.

Howdy all. Did manage to do better than Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout and I took the garbage out. Morning meal has been consumed but that is about the sum of my activities so far. It’s 88F now, so mowage if it takes place may be a long affair (with many breaks).

FCM, yeah, soccer (club level) is starting up here, parents seem to be distancing, but it’s hard (and the coaches don’t seem to be trying much) getting the kids the proper distance from each other. We’ve gone from 400 to nearly 4000 cases in the county in less than a month, hope it levels out soon.

Sari, forgot about Ryan’s…yeah, they were very good (according to Wikipedia, there are only 16 or so left).

OK, need to start dishwasher and maybe do a couple other things.

Motorcycles and ammo? I’ll bet they were both shipped from Da Jungle. Your-know-who is DEFINITELY messing with you!

A thousand rounds of .22LR isn’t a very big box, really. Are you sure?

We were talking about buffets just yesterday. I don’t know if there are any left around here. Close by at least.
The only thing I remember about Golden Corral is that every time we went there we had to race home 'cause Wifey got explosive diarrhea.
There used to be a pizza/other stuff buffet around here called Izzy’s. Actually they’re still around, but just barely. They had good pizza, and a great salad bar, and really good fried chicken, and cinnamon rolls to die for. Better than Cinnabon.
Then they changed to a different recipe (supplier?) for their pizza sauce and their pizzas started to suck. Did they realize their mistake? Of course not.
Then they changed to a totally inferior cinnamon roll recipe.
Then the Izzy’s in our town closed 'cause nobody much went there anymore.
I went once in a long while 'cause I liked their salad bar and loved their fried chicken, but business was way off. When they left, we didn’t mourn.

One weird thing I’ve noticed at my work is that everyone around me seems to be buying vacation homes or farms right now. I guess because there really isn’t a typical vacation-y summer to speak of? Either way, I’m impressed…and trying to figure out where they’re getting the money to do that. I want a vacation home but I want my mortgage paid off more.

I went to bed stupid late last night. I have no idea why - I knew better, of course. But I just didn’t bother. So now I’m still bleary eyed at 10:30 despite the gallon of coffee I swilled earlier. The bright side is that I have the day off tomorrow and I’m so tired I’m not as nervous yet as I ordinarily would be for my midyear review. I’ll probably get the same feedback I did last year. “You’re doing great! But make sure that you talk at every meeting, especially the big ones. Content doesn’t really matter - what matters most is that people remember you had an opinion. Be vocal, be heard.” Which is probably why promotions tend to go to the loudest. Well, here we go.

Used to be a Goldden Corral here; Lady SCAdian and I liked their pot roast, and the wee yins liked their desserts. That closed and was replaced by another buffet, which closed a year or so later and was replaced by a regular restaurant. Down in Norfolk there was an Old Country buffet, which we really liked.

Somehow managed to tear the nail off my little toe without even noticing, presumably whilst donning my jeans or my socks. First I knew was when I was drying off after a shower, and noticed blood on my toe.

Dishwasher is done so I can finish the load of towels, which also has my white socks in it.
Then I am rewashing some t-shirts that didn’t come clean. I took them upstairs to hang them up, two of them have stains on them that didn’t come out, the other two are more grey than white. I should have put them in with the towels.
I think about throwing all of them out. They are old, starting to get little pinholes in them, probably shouldn’t even bother washing them.

I was thinking about going to the park again this afternoon, but it’s up to 88 degrees outside, with high humidity. Both pups are sleeping and don’t seem much interested in doing anything. I need to cut up some cardboard for the recycling bin, I could sit out back to do it while they play in the yard, but the skeeters are so bad I’m not sure I want to.

I got my new phone case and I am loving it. Much nicer than the one Echo broke the strap off. It has a crossbody strap instead of a wrist strap, easier to carry that way.

Back from looking at the little house. It’s a 2 bed/1 bath with a separate room/studio out back, really nice deck all around, and a decent eat-in kitchen and living room. It is, literally, move-in ready, tho the turquoise walls in the kitchen and living room are less than appealing.

The owner has died and her sister is selling it. It’s in my daughter’s second-choice neighborhood (since she can’t afford ours) midway between our house and her inlaws. We’re waiting to get the HOA info, but barring some really weird rules, I expect they’ll put in a bid. We shall see.

It’s a good starter home - small enough that there won’t be a lot of maintenance. Plus it has a fairly new heat pump and appliances, and all the windows have blinds at least, so curtains wouldn’t be critical right away. And they both seem to think it’s a good choice for them right now, figuring in 6-10 years, they should be able to afford a bigger place.

So we shall see.

FCM, fingers crossed! We are hoping the house we’re selling will go to escrow in the next few days.

Longhair, it’s amazing how calming the thought of upcoming retirement can be (unless you’re a grizzled old cop telling your partner, “Yeah, 32 years on the force–today’s my last day, then it’s nothing but time with the grandkids!”, because that always results in being shot or having a piano fall on your head).

Another nice day. I’m cleaning, calling about insurance coverage, reading new client info, and mostly reading on the treadmill.

Hello, Mumpers! It’s a deliciously cool and cloudy day here. Since it’s supposed to heat up in a couple of days, I’m going to soak it up today.

Spent the entire morning at the eye clinic. Then my neighbor called with an entirely new issue: she’s been hacked. I’m not a computer person, but she really just needed to get some direction and vent a little. Then my sister called about her own eye issues. Now another friend keeps texting about her housing issues. Hopefully at some point, I can go for a walk.

Random question: How come now and then a post here in the MMP has a word or phrased blurred out? Clicking on them brings up clear text, but they’re not spoilers. Am I the only one seeing this? (Not complaining, just mystified.)

Moooom, yay on your brother’s release. Wishing him speedy healing. And another yay on the house–sounds close to ideal.

sari, where did you get your phone case? I need to get one with a cross-body strap for when I go walking.

wordy, I read that home sales in the country are up. Apparently lots of folks think they’ll be safer from the virus in a rural area. Maybe folks are buying vacation homes figuring they can rent 'em out now and move in later if they need to escape??

hippie, sounds like a frenetic few weeks coming up. I hope they sail by.
