MADs: Fall Folliage Fest in the mountains of Western Maryland!

I’ll bring a 12-pack. I’ll probably bring something else too - possibly a pasta dish.

Wonderful! You’re certainly welcome to bring any kind of pasta you want, but you might want to consider something like a pasta salad, might balance out the chili.

BTW, I’m planning on making the chili relatively mild and have a bottle of pepper sauce on hand; that way, everyone can make it to their own taste.

In his evite response, RTFirefly asked for hotel/motel info. Well, because of the fall foliage, that’s a big weekend in town, but I did find two places that still have rooms available for that night: Slumberland Motel ranges from $45.95 to $55.95 depending on what types of beds and how many people will sleep in the room. The number for them is 301 729-2880

Comfort Inn with lots of amenities is $120.00 to $130.00/night. Their number is 301 729-6400.

Both places are about 10 minutes from my house.

RT was also wondering whether anyone in that area was interested in sharing a ride.

Okay, folks, a mere week to go! Parking is going to be a little tricky to explain. Here’s how you’ll get here, and how you’ll park: take 70N to 68W. Take 68W to exit 43 that says Maryland Ave. (there are several 43 exits, but I can’t for the life of me remember whether you want A or C; but no matter, because it’s marked Maryland Ave.) Follow the exit around (it bears around to the left some) and down to the stop sign at Park Street. Make a Left onto Park Street. Go to the next light and turn left onto Williams Street. The next light is just before before Maryland Ave. IOW, you have to go through the light, go a little ways, and then make a right onto Maryland Avenue. Your first right is Spring Street. Make a right onto Spring Street. I have several available parking options, some more desirable than others. I think the best thing to do is to come to my house first, and if parking on the street seems like it’s going to be problematic, you’ll be able to see the shopping center right down the street from me. No one is going to object to you parking there, as long as your cars are on the perimiter of the lot.

Before anyone feels moved to point out that it maybe wasn’t such a bright idea to post directions to my house on the boards, rest assured that I’ve already gotten an email from a fellow doper. No one else needs to tell me. I feel stupid enough already, thanks.

We’re a little closer to the “no” category. Airman’s grandmother has not been doing well, and I don’t feel comfortable leaving the area.

Robin

Well, I’m certainly sorry to be hearing that. I hope Airman’s mom will be doing better, or at least be comfortable! Take care of yourselves; if something changes in the meantime, just show up. If not, I’ll see you some other time.

Hey, guys, I don’t have much of a CD collection. If anyone has any music they want to bring, feel free. Otherwise, I’ll put one of the music channels on Digital Cable.

I just found out that my wife has to work on Saturday, so we won’t be able to be there.

Hope everyone has a good time!

Wow. Sorry to hear that. Maybe next time.

Thought I’d bump this to see what was happening with the party. The EVite is showing only one definite guest besides me, and Anita says hotels in the area are booked solid. So I thought I’d check to see how hard I should try to find a hotel room in Hancock or somewhere…

Well, there will be other guests. Some are not (gasp) dopers. DancesWithCats has indicated in this thread that he will attend, although he hasn’t responded to the Evite. Lots of others haven’t responded at all, several others are still maybes. I just checked with the Slumberland as stated in this post:

And they still have rooms available for Saturday night. They have 2 queen-size beds for $55.95, and two twins available for $49.95.

You’d better not be backing out on me, guy! I’m out to prove that even small dopefests can be fun.

And besides, you’re bringing the pasta!

Still planning on making the trek at this point-always willing to see new sights and good friends. Where are the other usual suspects from the NoVa/DC contingent? Nyctea, Opal, Ed the Head, et. al.

If there’s a central PA doper who is sans transport-shoot me an email, and we’ll see what can be worked out.

Well, I haven’t heard anything from Nyctea since early in the thread; she looked at her Evite but never responded. I emailed her, and she didn’t answer. Opal is out of the country, having some surgery. The others, I dunno. Maybe none of the other kids on the playground wanna play with me :frowning:  .

My oldest daughter’s boyfriend is coming in from the Baltimore area; he’s not a doper, but he should be. I’m hoping that meeting a couple of you guys will convince him. Also, unless I’m mistaken, this will be a first for Two Trouts, whom I’m looking forward to meeting. I found a good deal on some really good beer at the liquor store that is spittin’ distance from my front porch, and I figured we could pick up some of that (the beer is J.W.Dundee’s; fine stuff).

Also, the trees are getting really nice right now, which may be why the hotels are mostly booked. I’m tellin you, if you’re interested, I’d call The Slumberland tonight!

I figure, we’ll have chili, we’ll have beer; we’ll have danceswithcats, RTFirefly (who, no offense to the others, gives the best hugs in the world), Two Trouts, and a few non-doper friends. Everything else is gravy!

Although I hope some other folks can make it, too.

Anita and I are both in. We’ve booked rooms at the Slumberland, and we’ll be driving up Saturday afternoon.

I’d still like to go, but I’ve kinda got a busy weekend, and I’m driving to Charlottesville and back tomorrow on a family matter. That’s just too much gas and driving for one weekend. So y’all’ll just have to accept my IOU for attendance at one dopefest. Hope it’s a good time.

How can I possibly not come, if you’re gonna say things like that about me? :o

I’m still planning on making my spinach pasta, too!

I’ve been demoted to “et al”?
I used to be the hostess with the mostess (or at least the MADess). How quickly they forget!!

Count me in, baby! RT has offered to drive - an offer I couldn’t refuse! We got a couple of cheap rooms at the Slumberland.

Ooooh, my husband will love that!!

Anita, so glad you’ll be joining us!
