You didn’t find that a particularly far-fetched idea on Day 2 when folks were discussing brewha’s Batman switch.
Why did I find this? Because somebody has to do the work to see who claimed which switches.
I’m pretty sure Cookies did, but I presume that by scum you mean Mafia/Wolves. I’m only on Day 2 and it’s going to take a bit to look through. I don’t think we had nearly enough switch claims to make strong inferences one way or the other, but we’ll see.
Going through the posts, I found this one, which I’m pretty proud of. I called out Texcat, Guiri, HockeyMonkey, and Nanook for shifty behavior. Three mafia, one wolf. Admittedly, I also called out several townies for weak votes, but these are pretty good numbers considering how large the player pool was at this point, and how a wolf (bufftabby) was about to accuse me of being mafia. Out of eight players who I accused of having bad, weak, or lazy votes, half of them ended up being scum (Pleonast was the only one I gave a pass to).
I like this post. I’m not saying it proves anything, but I’m proud of it.
I’m okay with Biotop given his recent erratic behavior, and I don’t want to go against the captain
vote Biotop
As for tomorrow, if we are wrong, well we shall see how things look. I’m not ready to commit to voting Johnny Bravo just yet.
oh my god the day 2 switch conversation is interminable somebody please lynch me and put me out of my misery
KIDDING, GEEZ.
I’d be proud of it too, but less proud that your vote ended up on VT Meeko.
Eh, I make no apologies for my vote on Meeko. Every townie that got lynched got lynched because they had a plurality of votes. Every case I’ve made has been in good faith. When you’re VT, you’ve got to accept that you’re going to be wrong pretty much all the time. You’ve just got to hope that you’re right exactly when you most need to be.
Wait a minute, that post was analyzing a train on Colby. You called out everybody that voted. Your vote post has the following:
Here is the list of living Colby-voters in vote order.
TexCat
Guiri
Meeko
ToeJam
HockeyMonkey
Diggit
Hawkeyeop
Nanook
Brewha
Pleonast
Of these, I am feeling hinky about the following players:
Meeko
HockeyMonkey
Nanook
But still 2 outta three ain’t bad. But all those others you may have called out but didn’t feel hinky about.
No, I get that. But you were analyzing a chunk of voters - you weren’t saying look all these players are hinky. the only three you found hinky, even after looking at weak voting reasons, were Nanook, Meeko, and HockeyMonkey.
Bleh, that’s fair. This is what happens when you catch something while you’re skimming for something else. I still called their votes weak, though!
And I forgot why I came back here in the first place.
It’s worth reading the whole rest of the conversation that surrounded Biotop after his switch. He drew a fair amount of heat (and a couple votes) for the timing of his claim. Other folks defended him for precisely the reason he’s claiming (why would a scum claim now?). The case gained no traction and fizzled when folks started shifting to ensure the double lynch. But there was nothing like universal agreement that the claim gave him town cred. Didn’t then, doesn’t now.
Another tidbit:
On Day 9, snfaulker (the tinkerer) was presumably suspicious of Biotop and tried a tiny gambit to see if he could make Biotop spill anything.
Biotop responds:
The reason this interests me is because it sounded pretty townie at the time. Not only did he do nothing on D7, but he did nothing for the entire game except flip the switch. If he’s scum with any sort of power, that’s a pretty ballsy claim since it means anybody a tracking power who might’ve caught him on another day/night could counter him.
Now we now that the only remaining role is the mook, so all it means (if Biotop is scum) is that he did not use his mook power on D/N7.
I don’t think this proves anything one way or the other, I just think it’s interesting considering where we’re at. This is the kind of conversation that might save Biotop if the remaining scum role had any kind of visitation power.
This does lower the odds (perhaps completely nixes the possibility) that Biotop is a third party who must plant bombs.
Done. Jesus. Here are all the switch claims I could find.
Brewha - Batman switch.
Klutz - Claims [scum redacted] switch.
Crys75 - Claims switch but doesn’t say which. Eventually says it’s bodyguard.
Biotop - Claims Dr Seward switch.
Koldanar - Claims GLaDOS switch.
Sinjin - Claims Informant switch.
nesta - Claims Bloodhound switch.
Biotop (of all people, who I suppose does not in fact regard the SK as scum) - reminds us that Cookies claimed the Batman switch in night seven.
A few things:
We were told (right?) that there were two switches for each role, but only Batman was claimed twice.
Holy shit did anybody ever notice that four of the cultists had a switch?
So what does this tell us?
The switches *probably *weren’t random. It defies the odds that four of five cultists would get switches.
Switches were not faction-limited. The cult had switches for mafia, wolves, and 3P. Klutz has a scum switch but brewha had a town switch.
It doesn’t tell us anything about Biotop’s assertion, which is that it’s “bloody unlikely” that town would hold both switches for a role.
Questions:
Klutz, can you tell us your switch now? If you did, I didn’t see it.
Does anybody else have a switch? They’re useless at this point except as more information. Unless there’s a mook switch, I guess.
I am not sure what the switches prove, or suggest, if anything.
Biotop says that his switch claim is proof that he’s town, because it’s very unlikely that town would have two of the same switch and so the claim was functionally equivalent to him claiming a counterable town power role.
We can’t really prove or disprove that, but we can see if any townies are holding the same switch. Or, perhaps, we can suss out whether there’s enough variance in the switches to see if we think they’re randomly assigned or not.
Or am I missing something, and is there a good reason not to reveal any remaining switches at this point?
For clarity: No switch here.
I don’t have one myself.
No switch here.
I dont think we were told anything about the switches - the switch holders were (I think) all told “there is another out there like this.”
Thats a bit selective. Here’s that entire point:
- The other switch holder, if Town, would also have to agree, and hopefully not be among the 5 or 10 people not seemingly paying attention or not showing up to the game at all. If the other switch holder is Scum or 3rd Party, then Brewha likely dies. Perhaps we learn something about what happens to switches when a player dies. Perhaps we also give Scum or 3rd Party complete control over whether Batman’s future kills go through. Because if one switch holder dies, the other one controls the role switch until death of the power or death of the remaining switch holder, right?
So he was evaluating both possibilities. Johnny, why did you cut that part out?
