Okay, that’s just weird, but apparently I messed up something with the URLs to the individual posts. Weirdly, though, the URL to 345 lists itself as 345, event though it’s actually post 231. I seems that the “postcount” part of the URL labels a post whatever number you put in there.
A few games ago I posted my “Agatha Christie” theory for Day 1. I posit that there is almost always at least one Scum amongst the very players who come off as the most likely to be Townie on Day 1. It’s not just saying the townie things either. It’s more than that. The play is just too good to detect early. I am willing to bet at least one of our aggressive, case-building, mega analysts is Scum this game.
Several players have noted that the Scum have an easier time with three factions. Scum don’t have to make up a case that they know is false. They can Scum hunt just like everyone else. What we normally think of as a Scum tell—players not sincerely looking for Scum-- is less a factor here.

Even if you are vanilla cream pie, there are rules that may effect you.{ the multi lynch factor is one},
And if you have a power role there are other roles that may effect you-{like a protector can be killed just for doing their job}. Knowing these things will help you with your game .
of course, if you are Scum ignore this entire post *
Lightfoot, she surely knows this. **Angel **is not some new kid on the block. I don’t know if her play so far is based on personal life issues or something else. But I have never seen her play careless.
To save others a Google click, this seems to mean
Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A [The code usually gives the player a full powerup or extra lives] Start ?
Too frat to care; Took Nothing, Left Nothing, Signed Log ?
BTW, the only Netspeak acronyms I know without Googling, AFAICR, (IANANK) are XXXOOO and HBD. I’m not even sure about LOL — is that Laughing Out Loud? … or Lots of Love?
I’m still suspicious of Colby11, but I’ll cast a vote for the other top suspect:
Vote Johnny Bravo
(Applications for explanation will be considered only if accompanied with clarification: Is explanation intended to help assess Johnny’s Scummitude? Or my own?)
I spend 1-2 hours reading (mainly on my phone) and try to spend ½-1 hour posting (works best from the computer - but I tend to do it more often from my phone in this game than before)
Running the risk of having a MOD roll his eyes in the spoilers, I’d ask you:
Are you familiar with NAFs theory about the 3. vote on a Townie?
I would like anyone doing this in this game to clearly post this before doing so. To me it opens up for a lot of confusion. Personally I prefer that players place the vote on the person they would rather see lynched. But we have very different playstyles, so I am not going to kid myself and believe that me not liking it will stop people from doing it…
I read this as AngeloftheNorth saying that not reading the rules is plainly anti-town and that Scum would never do that and tell us about it.
Bolding is mine.
I am moving my vote to AngeloftheNorth based on this.
She shows up and post anti-townly that she hasn’t read the rules. When people ask about it, she says, that it’s so anti-town that Scum would never do that. Hence she is saying that the very fact that she did it and shared the information with us id prove of her townieness.
Others have started that it’s not the playstyle they are used to see from her. And I am really getting a big ping here.
Yes, I am familiar with the “3rd vote is likely Scum” idea and believe it is valid. I don’t know if the number 3 is magical; maybe in a game this size Scum are more likely to show up 4th or 5th or so. The fact that I was the “magic 3rd” vote on Colby may have flashed through my head when I voted — if so I paid it no attention.
And I did vote for who I thought was likely Scum, and removed my vote with an intended explanation of that.
But thanks for removing your vote. Normal Phase also seemed satisfied with my explanation but IIRC didn’t remove her vote.
I may use that reasoning more than I should. :smack: But I wasn’t referring to the general case; I was referring to me. My behavior in this Game reeks of Townie Septie!
As far as I recall NAF added to the theory later, stating that it only is an indication if the player with the 3. vote isn’t familiar with the theory. I tend to think that is right - and is less likely to put anything into it, if the player knows the theory.
I said upthread that I don’t consider posting in the wrong thread to be scummy - I said it’s anti-town because it muddies the record.
Some people are making a much bigger deal of a FOS than I would have expected. I’m still not sorry for doing it.
Apparently part of the ire I’m drawing (bolding above) is because “Meeko’s gonna Meeko” is part of the meta for a bunch of you. Well, that’s not my meta and I reject it.
I didn’t like that Meeko posted in the other thread. I said so. I said why, and I said why at the time. If some of y’all want to take that as poor Meeko being bullied by mean ol’ Johnny Bravo, that’s your malfunction and not mine.
If you want to vote for someone who made far too big a deal out of it, go look back at my very first post about it, then look at the responses. I’m not the one who blew it up.
In summary, you all have dumb faces.
<3, Johnny Bravo
It’s not quite as strong an indicator, but the theory still holds. Putting the third or fourth or so vote onto a player moves the voting stage from the initial dance of voting and unvoting into a more serious consideration of someone. I think that switch is generally better for scum on the first few days, when we’re just mathematically likely to mislynch, because it provides all sorts of cover without requiring scum to go out on any limbs to frame someone new.
Both, of course. Are you really trying to pretend you’re that ignorant of how the game works? Since when has it ever been acceptable to vote without giving reasons?
Y’know, I had decided early that our habit of lynching the loud would hurt us even more in this game than it usually does, and that I’d vote for someone quiet (at least on early Days) to make up for it. So I’m leaving my vote on jsgoddess for now. But septimus, you’re really making me question that decision. FOS septimus
