Cool. Thank you. Ack. So we have to look for 2 types of scum (which we can group as scum) and unknown third parties which can or will randomly take the whole game. Space bats, if anyone gets that reference.
Thank you for that wiki link. I had found others, but not that one yet. It’s actually kind of fascinating, if I might digress (and apparently I might) the differences between game play in real life or even video conferencing and online/text only. I also geeked out a bit too much on the whacked out difference we have in our scum numbers in this game versus the game theory calculations, but that may be because we’re online. Haven’t read enough yet.
Oooh - another abbreviation I hadn’t deciphered yet. I got context but not the exact wording. Thank you!
OK - in a morbid way I get that that you should “think out loud” about your suspicions and thought processes online, so you leave a record in the event of your untimely death. Cool. That very much makes sense. I will try to do more of that.
I don’t think there really are any good calculations for a three-faction game like this. A 14-man Scum team out of 54 players would be overwhelming, but that’s not the same thing as two 7-man Scum teams, for two reasons. One, with three teams, the baseline chance of each team winning a “fair” game should be 1/3, not 1/2. And two, the Scum teams will also be working against each other: Some mornings, we’ll wake up to see a Mafioso dead instead of a Townie, and some evenings, it’ll be a Werewolf.
Reformatted to make it easier to read (I hope, if you liked it better the other way I guess you can let me know and I will silently weep for the half hour I spent changing it.)
DAY ONE VOTE COUNT
As a quick reminder - there are no powers, hidden or open, that can affect the vote count. If you see an apparent discrepancy, it’s the result of moderator error.
FYI for everyone I’ve been very tied up this week with a one-day-per-full-cycle game on another site. I do expect to be done with that game before the day here finally ends, but right now I’m not really caught up, just poking in here and there.
You’ll probably be able to tell when I’m no longer playing over there. >_>
I actually had a couple more paragraphs about how the main job of Vanilla Town is to die…and how that was OK. In the end, I couldn’t figure out how to say what I wanted to say in a way that I thought would be understandable to someone who was already in deep, having decided to dive head first into the Mafia pool with this game, so I scrapped it.
But the gist of what I wanted to say, you pretty much covered here. Which isn’t too surprising, since I’m pretty sure you’re the one I tool the idea from in the first place.
Oh, lord, Meeko. I forgot what a wild ride it is to try to dissect your posts for context. Here’s my best attempt. Forgive me if I miss some things.
That’s precisely what I was saying. I think.
They don’t have to. But they do have that luxury. And if someone is claiming that they are ignoring the context provided as they dive into a game, does it strike you as being scummier or townier?
I don’t know what a magic bag claim is. I’m not making one. I was being dismissive of Angel’s unsubstantiated feeling that TotalLost was Town.
Let’s say the information is set aside. Until we have more information, there’s not much I can do with it.
I don’t know what any of this means. I have an older sister, and no other siblings. Does that help you?
As far as I’m aware, I don’t know you from Adam and vice-versa, but if that was a reason for suspicion over and above anyone’s actual actions, this would be a lot more contentious of a first day.
So that’s yet another anti-town behavior (especially in a game this large). You admit as much as it’s not particularly effective in post 550. Yeah, my vote stays.
Suburban Plankton is doing some yeoman’s work on analysis, and both of his points in 541 are good catches as well.
From my POV, it’s the third thing added in that sealed it. “Scum would never do this thing that I’ve done”. I’ve got a very knee-jerk reaction to someone trying to explain to me what scum would and wouldn’t do, since it proves approximately nothing.
And I’m the cool hippie uncle with the backpacker guitar who smells vaguely like cigars and booze.
Regarding this, I feel like we’re going to have some weird expectations given how just mind-bogglingly huge this game is. I am personally reading and thinking a couple of hours a day and I’m finding that it’s an effort to keep up!
I wouldn’t put it that way. Both votes were placed for playing very differently than what I’m used to seeing from those players. At least that was my intention. Your analysis on my play so far is spot on though - I’ll blame the wine.
With the multiple Scum teams, a cross-kill is both a better-case scenario, and more likely. But I don’t think there’s anything a Townie can do to make that happen.
In case it was, and it probably was meant for me, it means that in an average of 5 out of 6 games there was at least one Scum in the bottom three posters. (Except in cases where there was a tie, in which case it was one of the bottom four or five posters, as now.)
