That was quick - the first coffee shipment is heading out today. So we need to let FCD’s folks know what’s going on.
I called the HVAC company and they told me the tech should be here noonish, so I ran to Food Lion for a few things, and now I’m back. Shortly, I will descend the stairs continue deconstruction. I may also start marking the walls where the shelf supports will be attached. Since the walls are already a mess (that room used to be FCD’s paint booth) I’m not worried about drawing lines with sharpies to mark heights and stud locations. I had thought about slapping some white paint on the walls, but there are so many holes and gouges, it just isn’t worth the effort. And it’s a storage closet, so really, who cares? Certainly not me!
I think supper will be chicken salad on green salad. I just need to cut up the leftover rotissed chickie for salad. I’m also going to make some corn meal mush - one of FCD’s faves. Not for supper but for future breakfasts. Not sure what else is on the agenda - whatever happens happens.
Laziness and general sloth abound in da cave. Neither of us wants to do anything, neither of us has to do anything, and since we are retired, no one can make us do anything. I love days like this!
MetalMouse maybe your friend is just fattenin’ up the squirrel. They are tasty when grilled and doused in bbq sauce.
Good morning, people! Another gorgeous day in SoCal. I’ve finally thawed enough to enjoy it. Last night was a “beer meeting” with some teaching buddies around the fire pit at Mike’s. Lots of fun and very therapeutic, but a LNG pit doesn’t kick out all that many BTUs. I neglected to wear thermal bottoms, so by the time I got home my legs were like ice. Took hours in bed for them to thaw. Mainly because I was too lazy/stubborn to just take a hot shower before bed! Lesson learned. Next week the thermals go on.
Today is another teach from home day so I can get some meal prep for the weekend done during my conference period. Hope everybody has a safe, healthy and happy day.
I’ve had a reasonably nutritious breakfast: one-eyed jack (or toad-in-a-hole to you Brits) with Cholula, of course. Gotta have Cholula.
I need to pop by the Gettin’ Store for a few minor things, including something for my mom so I can send her a package. So far, all I’ve got are some local milkweed seeds I gathered, but imma send her as many packages of elastic as I can find.
The woman keeps making me masks, but can’t/won’t get elastic, so she’s using up her stash of holiday elastic - you know, the scratchy metallic cord you use to tie gifts?
Plus, I need to get a lil cash back, so I can properly celebrate my new med card.
Also need to call a buddy of mine back. He’s not calling just to chitty-chat, I can tell he wants a favor or something. But I can’t duck him all day. Well, maybe just for a bit more.
I heavily suspect one of the class- herself a retired high school teacher- may well do something similar, that. Or my office mate, who’s been there about 20 years, may finally live up to his threat to hand in his notice and tell everyone exactly what he thinks of them- I think we’d all need to borrow Swampy’s fainting couch after the language he’d come up with if he does.
I managed to palm the annoying class off on someone else- he was trying to get a biiig project done, and wanted as many people as possible to get involved, and it’s arguably more useful for them to do practical projects like that when available than sit in for a session which could be done anytime. That’s my excuse for sloping off home early on a Firday, and I’m sticking to it. It’s all for the students’ benefit
Tried to call my mom, but she wasn’t there, so I talked to my sister a bit. They’re getting ready to bake cookies.
And got an email from my bro about Christmas. He usually hosts, and this year he thought he’d do something outside with a fire pit, but we won’t be going since Daughter wants to host us this year. And who wants to be outside in MD in December?? No thanks.
Now I know what I’m doing this weekend - baking almond shortbread cookies. I’ve got the butter and the will to do it. And, for the first time this week, I legit cooked. Well, I dumped things in the crockpot and turned it on, but that counts!
Metal Mouse, if your west coast vacation next year takes you through the Willamette Valley maybe we can meet up for a beer or something. Let me know.
Having been raised up in FlowDuh, I have eaten squirrel, also alligator and snake, though I don’t recall ever eating possum. Can’t remember being too impressed. Not much meat on those bones.
I put up an outdoor floodlight fixture over the side door this week. But the mounting gizmo that is supposed to hold it to the wall/whatever is made out of plastic, and it flexes. A lot. So now Ima get some parts and modify it. I seem to have to do that sorta stuff a lot these days. Having to modify something to make it do what it was supposed to do in the first place.
Home made BBQ chicken pizza for dinner tonight! I just knew you wanted to know that.
[Sgt. Esterhaus] Be careful out there. [/Sgt. Esterhaus]
I missed that. I read it as “my whole life” without noticing that that word was missing.
I agree. I would have been much happier, though, had the cook beheaded he little beasts before cooking them. (No, I don’t like looking my fish in the eye, either.)
Oops – typo. That should have read “over $2500”. Which was quite bad enough. Odd that it’s now, when I’m on SocSec and Lady SCAdian is unemployed, that I could finally afford to have those repairs (which should have been done at lease three years ago) taken care of…
Incredible – I actually guessed who that was before googling, despite not having watched two complete episodes of that show.
53o out, with a predicted high of 50. Rain today, tonight, and all day tomorrow, with a 30% chance of snow tomorrow night. I’d much rather have snow the entire time instead of rain…
Supper last night was meatballs and pasghetti sauce over rice. I know we discussed tonight’s supper, but can’t for the life of me remember what we decided on…
Lunch was aggressively non-nutritious: gravy from a packet, with whomp croissants from a can.
I crumpled a few leaves of homegrown sage into the gravy, though, for that authentic flavor. Shove over, Julia Childs!
Hey, at least I ate - two meals now, even if they were smallish - on my day off.
I have a THIRD meal prepping, too! I was in such a good mood, that celebratory beans were in order. (Okay, I also have some leftover ham to use up. That may have factored into the decision.) Cumin, chili powder, onions’n’garlic, and of course, a few bay leaves.
They’re simmering now. Fartfest has been pre-scheduled for this evening.
I ALSO set up my fun tie-dye project. Two white (nearly see-thru) t-shirts from work vendors, plus a couple of white cotton masks for funsies. Aqua, navy, and little dabs of red dye. Will find out tonight how they came out.
I suspect we’ve been enjoying her…uh…medicated posts all along. Now they’ll less expensive for her to produce and hopefully just as wry and merry.
So glad to hear this. And kudos to your mom for being brave and taking on her meds and feeding tube. That’s often paralyzingly scary when an illness has beaten you down. Good on her, if she was my home health care client I’d be proud of her.
swamy be nice. Don’t make us send Mooooom after you.
It’s toad-in-the-hole to this simple girl from Iowa too.
Hey, I just took frozen ground turkey out of the freezer to thaw-that counts right? Now I just need swampy to drop off some biscuits and cornbread to make the menu complete. I think turkey sloppy Joe’s sound good. I’ll call it Regional Tastes of the South and charge the roomie extra.
That sounds like the entire concept of parenting teenagers.
Unfortunately, TPTB tend to frown on people ‘modifying’ teenagers.
I just ate a ‘fun sized’ Hershey bar from the almost gone stash of leftover Halloween candy. It wasn’t very good (Hershey makes mediocre chocolate.) but an addict has to get their fix wherever they can.
Evening all. BLT’s have been assimilated and some kitchen cleaning has taken place, so that is enough adultin’ for the day.
talky, that is good news. Hope Mom-unit keeps improving.
herald, that’s a pretty impressive car bill, hope it runs without hassle for awhile now.
Bumba, my plan for 2021 (which was my plan for 2020) is to take the train from Chicago to Seattle, stopping for a day or so at Glacier Natl. Park, then drive/fly/train down the road to Portland/San Francisco/L.A. and catch the Southwest Chief back to Chi-town. The cash is available, just a matter of COVID-restrictions and when they end.
Nut, palming off onerous duties is a time-honored tradition and you’ve done it well.
flyboy, I had to call up a map to see what you were talking about…that Working on Harbor Island is really a mess, why did they put the offices there of all places?
swampy, I’m not telling her that, she might hurt me (even being 1/3 my size).
OK, turned the room heater back on, temperature is down to 43F heading for freezing. All y’all take care.
