More Jokes

I just met someone named Cheddar Larson and she said her
sister is a famous actress ! But she wouldn’t say who it is.

I get the name (though I had to look it up), but why wouldn’t she say who it is? Is Brie Larson known for a role where she couldn’t reveal her identity?

I don’t know what the particular brand of joke is called, but here’s another
in the same vein …

“Apparently, 1 in 5 people in the world are Chinese. And there are 5 people in my family, so it must be one of them. It’s either me, my mum or my dad, or my older brother Kenny, or my younger brother Ho-Chan-Chu… but I think it’s Kenny.”

I’ve seen that one before, and it’s funny.

But I’m just not getting the other one. It’s like me saying, ‘I have a sister in San Diego but I’m not telling you her name.’ Obviously, the sister in the joke is Brie Larson, who is an actress. But what’s funny about Cheddar Larson not saying her name?

Thanks. So the joke is that Brie Larson played a character with a secret identity?

EDIT: Actually, never mind. This seems to be one of those IYKYK things, and I’m out of the loop.

That’s pretty much her biggest role, or at least what my kids know her from.

Yeah, as I said in my edit, it’s a pop culture reference. I saw the movie once, but I’ve never heard of her. I’m terrible with actors’ names, except the ones I grew up watching.

My guess is that the guy is ashamed that both he and his sister were named after cheeses.

His name was Jack. Monterey Jack.

The joke is, the speaker wasn’t able to figure it out based on the blatant clues. Brie Larson is a pretty famous name.

I thought the joke was that Mr and Mrs Larssen named both of their daughters after cheeses.

That was the obvious part. I knew there was a person named Larson whose first name was the same as a cheese, so I googled and found the name of the actress. The confusing part, which I take was intended as the funny part, was why ‘Cheddar’ didn’t want to reveal her sister’s name. From what I read upthread, it seems that the joke is that Brie Larson played Captain America in a movie. I’ve only seen it once (or at least, I think I did – all of the Marvel movies seem the same to me), but I gather that Captain America has an actual name that is a big secret, and there must be a plot point about trying to reveal her identity.

You might mean Captain Marvel

I was just going by what was posted earlier. I’ve checked again, and you’re right. As I said, they all look the same to me.
