It is raining, the poer flickered, and I just had to drag “Princess Pretty Paws” out to go pee. Got sketti sauce in the crock pot.
I just put “Not an axe murderer”

I seem to have two nicknames – OW and Miss Owl. I don’t recognize your name but if you were around the MMP previously, I’m also Mrs. Kopek (Ruble in the MMP), who was a prolific poster here. He died in February and that’s when I jumped in here.
Yes, I’ve been a Mumper for a while - 15 years, maybe? Haven’t been around much for a few years, but have more free time now and have posted a few times this year.
I met both you and ruble at a memorial party for norinew about 9 years ago. I was there with FCM. I was very sad to read that ruble had left us.
In theory, I edit the Mumpers’ recipe blog. Am hoping to go back to look for past recipes from the MMP sometime soon.
Howdy Y’all! We had an early sup followed by cocktails on the back porch. What? The cocktails were dessert. Been a drizzly and dreary day, but the sun popped out about an hour ago and is still with us. Maybe the grass will get dry enough to mow tomorrow. I stepped onto it and it squished. One’s yahd should never squish!
gt are you in Mexico permanently now? I know you retired. Retired life is the best!
I have read that very theory before, and think it’s entirely possible.
Hope FCG (FairyChatGrampa) has lots of years left in him.
GT! So good to see you!
Got up at 6am this morning to greet the concrete guys. They got the concrete into the basement in short order, but the concrete truck was short.
T said he’d calculated that we needed 6.5 to 7.5 yards of mix and had ordered 8 yards. He thinks we got 7.
He said they’d been having trouble with that concrete company doing that lately.
Anyway, they went down the street to the hardware store and bought some bagged concrete and finished with that. ~18 bags.
Now it’s 2:45 and they’re all gone but one guy who’s ‘floating’ (finishing) the surface.
Tomorrow we get to move stuff back in. Then we gotta go back to the west side of the state to visit with dentists and doctors and dog groomers and such. We do have one ‘charity’ event to go to, which funds the cultural center for the year. It should be interesting re: social distancing. We’ve gone every year and always have a good time.
Later.
The bald peenots are quite good if’n I do say so myself. Beerverages go well as an accompaniment.
I have never used an online datin’ app. I never plan on usin’ one either.
Catching up… I’ve had nerves in my back “ablated” so with any luck, my overall pain will decrease as soon as everything recovers.
Been busy with refinancing. My mortgage payments will be decreasing by a significant amount as soon as everything works its way through the pipeline - my consultant said to expect this to take up to three months because everyone and their postman is refinancing now thanks to the historic low rates.
You might have gotten even more interest if you’d left that part out. Some women apparently like a little “Heeeeere’s Johnny!” in their men.
After three days of stomping about and grumbling “Bah!” at random objects, we – much like the groundhog – saw our shadows for the first time in a couple of weeks of smoke-filled drudgery. The sky isn’t clear yet, but it’s much brighter, and our smoke index went from worst in the world to under 200. It was almost crisp out there. Supposed to have actual sun and blue sky on Sunday!
Thursday is our meal swap day with the neighbor, so I went all out and made a dish called ‘Lamb and Eggplant Pide’ (pronounced pea-DAY). Pide is a Turkish leavened flat bread that you can turn into little 6" canoes filled with whatever you desire and then bake. This mix was ground lamb, diced eggplant, onion, garlic, tomato paste, olive oil, cumin, ground allspice, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, cinnamon and fresh mint. The cooked mixture is spooned over a bed of yogurt/egg mix. Good eats.
Then I changed out all of the old and damaged drawer/cabinet pulls in the kitchen, which spiffed it up some.
Then I took a nap. Loves me a nap. Better’n cake, even.
Can I be your neighbor? pul-leez? Pretty pul-leez.
Boo
Sure. . .but there’s no pie, or anything. . .if that’s what you’re angling for.
That’s what I’m going to trade with. Give me 3 of your favorite flavors-what you get will depend on my mood and what is in season.
Boo, pie crust from scratch Boo*
shoe, I dropped out of the online dating scene a couple of years ago. Here at the buckle of the bible belt, the guys who saw agnostic for religion tended to either see me as a challenge or think of me as a good time party girl. Then there were the real losers. A few lasted a couple of dates or more, but I’m better at making friends first and taking it from there.
{{{Moooooom and the rest of the Chat family}}} I hope that everything goes well with your in-laws.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson, did some light cleaning in the bathroom and kitchen, et and am now fixing to do KP. I’m seeing a culture shift at irk. I’ll roll with it, but it will be a bit of an adjustment. Fortunately, I not only like working for my leadership, but get along well with techs, supes and managers in other departments, so I should do OK as long as the company does.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Evening all. Soccer with the 7-9 year olds has been practiced and Big Bowl O’Sallit has been consumed for dinner, so nothing much on the agenda besides readin’ and watchin’ and internettin’ for the balance of the evening. Never made it to Wal-Mart, will try to work up the ambition tomorrow. One nice thing about the hurricane is that temps are down in the 70’s for the next few days…evenings will be down in the 50’s, so the AC will start getting a break.
{{{FCM/FCD}}} Hope it’s not too bad, but at 90 years old, you never know…
gotti, good news on the re-finance; the money can go for other things now.
Bumba, sounds like you got some good contractors to do the basement…and sounds like the concrete delivery folks need help measuring…
Never really tried on-line dating, the local St. Louis weekly paper (Riverfront Times) had a classified section, you could advertise there and they’d send you any written replies. Met some very nice ladies that way (hey, at least you knew they could write intelligently…), but nothing serious came of it. Been out of the game for 15 years and woundn’t know how to start again, even if I was interested.
OK, need to watch some tackleball. I am one of those forlorn Cleveland Browns fans, always hoping each year for a miracle…
So I got to thinking about online dating while on a lovely, Doomsday-ish (smoke, red sun) walk to the store. Love in the Age of COVID seems like an even more complicated business than usual. Awhile back, I read that some people scan and exchange their negative COVID tests before meeting. But then you’d have to trust that person hasn’t been exposed since the date of the test OR keep getting tested. I guess for the first date or six, you stay masked and social distanced OR throw caution to the winds and hope for the best?
Oh, and it was after 5 when I walked home. The mail was just getting delivered at the complex across the street AND at my complex! WTH is going on? I hope this means carriers are starting later, but it’s weird that they’re delivering mail this late.
The neighbors are getting a new roof. A White guy in his 20s sat in a lawn chair with cold drinks while a bunch of Mexican guys did the work. It’s enough to turn a guy into a pinko commie.
I should like to point out to everyone that my nickname is now officially, “Rat” unless you would like to come to blows with Catamount. “flytrap” be darned.
Sounds like good eatin’! I wanna elbow your neighbor outta the way and pretend to be next in line for THAT.
Instead, dinner tonight shall be another pork chop, because it’s left over from the package of four (the other two siblings went to freezer camp) and it shall be smothered with another half a metric shitload of onions.
All out of veggie sides, but I got a coupla cupcakes left to eat. Oh! And those strawberries!
After being determined enough to traipse through three stores, I finally procured a spool of steel wire.
I need this to make enclosures for my ratties, and - like brown rice, another ASF staple - I could NOT get my mitts on the stuff. 20 gauge steel wire. How hard can it be?
Found it at Lowe’s the next town over, got home, unlocked the door so the cats could go out, and … sat down in the twilight right then & there to work. Without bothering to take off shoes or bra or pants or any of the usual “got home” rituals.
Next big enclosure almost finished, now, finally. Such a satisfying feeling.
Oh! I did my nails tonight. They’re finally growing out - a sure visible, outward physical sign that my anxiety is abated, that I’m eating, that I’m not gnawing on myself in a corner, etc.
Anyway, my nails are long-ish, and now they’re pink and sparkly, too.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis (snerk) 69! (snerk) Amurrkin out and partly cloudy (partly moony?) with a predicted high of 84 and maybe N.O.S. this afternoon. The big plan of the day is mowage. I foresee this as an afternoon task as I am sure da yahd is still a might squishy. Hopefully there will be enough sun to dry it out by afternoon. We shall see. Sup shall be pot roast with N.O.T. and carrots, collard greens (we seem to be on a kick), deviled aigs, and cornbread. The idea bein’ that OYKW will be on KP whilst I mow. Yes, he can cook.
MOOOOOOM sorry about the woes with the in-laws. Hope all goes well.
gotti here’s hopin’ you feel better soonest and yay on the re-finance.
flytrap sorry, but you are stuck with this nickname. However, like cat said, rat is my favorite Pears Before Swine character.
Bumba yay for finished basement. I am surprised to hear the event is still goin’ on, but hope y’all have a good time.
**shoe ** makin’ a rat enclosure and makin’ your nails all pink and sparkly! Sounds like a productive evenin’!
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Firday Y’all!
