Nope, flytrap, as swampy pointed out, the rules is that you don’t get to pick your nick. You get what your get. Be happy we don’t call you Stinky!
This was my first laugh of the day!
As for my inlaws, honestly, I’m surprised they’re still alive, considering they choose to take their health into their own hands, and not in the right way. Like they’ll decide on their own whether or not to take their meds, and MIL will cut her dosage if she thinks the meds are too expensive. They’re not stupid people, but they are stubborn about some things, doctors, etc, being at the top of the list. Anyway, we’re hoping to get some news today about the latest round of tests.
Last night, I crashed early, which was great, but a little after 10, I awoke with a terrible cramping in my lower left leg. It felt like if I just relaxed, it would sieze up! So I got out of bed and walked around a little, then thought maybe I was a bit dehydrated, so I drank a big glass of water. Whether that was it or not, the cramping went away and I eventually fell back to sleep with no issues. Then I woke about 10 minutes before my alarm went off.
I want to put my bedroom back together today, but I’ve got to wrangle the baby around the painters. I think what I will do is move most of her toys to her bedroom, plus I can start putting some things back in my room - like lamps and some small items. The bed will have to go last. And I need to pack up a lot of crap on my desk so they can paint behind it. THAT will be a chore…
I have made the executive decision to not mow today. Still really wet out and da yahd still squishes when stepped upon. Here’s hopin’ the sun will come see us and dry it all out today.
The hornworm saga continues: I went to mom’s yesterday to help rid her of the creatures. The plant had been knocked over by a critter and there were no hornworms present. We looked all over her tiny, third-floor balcony for about 20 minutes after sweeping up hornworm poop, then set everything upright and gave the plant a haircut, but there were none. Dr. Google tells me that birds don’t generally like hornworms, but if chickens will eat them, surely a crow or bluejay would, right? Anyway, I guess we just wait now and see if they pop out of the woodwork/pepper plant again. It’s actually more disconcerting not to see them.
Anyway, up and onto my third cup of coffee. The world now seems to be burning slowly at work, making my conversation with my boss this morning eventful. There was many an f-bomb dropped (not in my direction, though). Also, on a personal note, we just got the email last night surveying parents to figure out if we want our kids to go back to school in person in late October or if we want them home.
What a terrible decision to make - have them go in, get to see their friends, get a teeny tiny bit of “normal-ish” but expose them and others to a potentially deadly virus they could bring home. Or, have them stay home, feeling isolated and lonely, wishing they were anywhere else while at the same time keeping them and other family members safe. I really don’t feel qualified to make this decision. I apparently didn’t read the parenthood contract closely enough for additional, unforeseen life and death situations.
It was chilly this morning at the park, 55 degrees but it felt colder than that.
We stayed longer today, 2 and a half hours, and Echo still didn’t want to leave.
I think it’s supposed to rain later today. It was all gloomy out but now the sun is shining.
I actually slept through the whole night without a single potty break. I hope that becomes a habit.
Swampy, I agree, I would not want to mow a squishy yard.
I have a mess of paperirk to do today. I’m not looking forward to it, I don’t feel like thinking today.
Morning all. Rain is all gone and 70F outside, only going to 80F today. May have to plan watering the yard on Sunday, as next week is predicted to be dry.
Swampy, hope the lawn dries out, I agree with the others, mowing a squishy lawn can be a mess, especially if you bag the clippings (my back is aching just thinking about it).
Sari, Echo appears to be one of those mammals that recover quickly from operations. Good for her.
talky, I hope the hornworms are gone, but you know they are hiding somewhere, just waiting to jump out at you when you least expect it…and good luck on the parenting decision…they really should have provided a manual when the kid was born…
FCM, I guess when you reach their age, decisions like that is about all you have left. Hope they come through this OK.
shoe, Hooray for the wire and new cage and new nails. And that was probably TMI on your ‘getting home’ rituals, albeit mine are similar (different types of clothing articles are removed, of course).
nellie, I’ve had a few days with mail after 5pm here too; don’t know if it’s the schedule or people being off work or something else, but it still gets here, so that’s alright.
Need to make myself presentable and get over to Wal-Mart for some donations (plastic bags and glasses) and purchases. All y’all take care now.
You need one of those new-ish stand-up mowers. First off, they look like a lot of fun, as far as mowing the lawn goes, and I’ve seen them used in the rain, throwing up tails of spray like speedboats.
Afternoon, or evening, mumpers! So glad it’s finally Friday although my day has not gone well. And to top it off, I’ve now got confirmation that I am back in the office on campus on Monday too. That bit I don’t mind, it’s having to deal with the festering cesspool of public transport that bothers me.
Oh well, got a fab weekend of exciting things to look forward to instead. Socially distanced indoor gig, a day at the zoo and the chance to catch up with friends on the beach before the whole area gets shut back indoors again.
Swampy I agree with no mowing. Squish and mow does not sounds like a good combination!
Chris came here alone today. He ran caulk under all the crown molding, then started cutting in the light gray. Then he did more and more - bottom line, the first coat of both colors is on the dining room walls, and it looks like he might get away with just 2 coats in the kitchen, since the first coat seems to be covering really well.
He left around 11:30 - right after I put Roxy down to nap. FCD is napping also, which means I’m not going to vacuum or start reassembling our bedroom yet. So chillage it shall be!
N.O.T. soup for supper. Furniture shopping tomorrow. No sun. That pretty much sums it all up.
We got a little rain this morning, and I think it cleared up the smoke a little, but our AQI is still at 152 (Unhealthy). The smoke forecast for today is green, but I don’t trust those folks any more.
swampy, I’d wait to give the lawn a haircut. You don’t want wet grass clogging up the mower. And gotti, I still want a stand-up mower even though I no longer have a lawn to mow. I’d PAY to mow lawn using one of those!
wordy, that is an awful decision to have to make. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place! I get why schools survey parents: it takes some of the pressure off the district (“Don’t blame us! It was the parents who decided…”). Are they surveying teachers, too?
Re: hornworms, I read that many species of birds lurves hornworms for feeding to their babies, who apparently need a lot of protein. Even some seed-eaters do this. Maybe your feathered friends took care of the hornworm issue for you?
flytrap, I’m confused. How is flytrap worse than carnivorousplant? I’m clearly missing something here. Please enlighten.
Nearly noon here, I got to Wal-Mart to realize I had not brought the plastic bags to donate (I even wrote myself a note–which I stuck in my pocket and forgot, of course). Did donate the glasses and picked up some air filters for the house (20 x 30 x 1), along with 2-liter Pepsi, a $10 pair of sneakers, and…Cheese Balls (cannot resist them…). Probably go out in a bit to the other Wal-Mark with the plastic bags again…I will accomplish my mission…
Everyone here in N. Ali-bama seems to be following the mask directives, haven’t seen a violation in weeks. OTOH, we’ve reached 7,000 cases overall, or about 2% of the county population. If we’re trying for herd immunity (from which I dissent), there’s quite a ways to go…
FCM, like the picture on the Book of Faces of the dining room paint job.
boo fae, if you think your public transportation in Britain is bad, come over and try the USA version sometime…enjoy the weekend.
gotti, looked up stand-up mowers, I’ve probably seen them but no particular memory. I agree they look neat, but a bit…pricey, wouldn’t you say? Of course, swampy’s rich, so he could afford it…
OK, need to finish my Subway sammich (another wal-Mark purchase) and onward into the afternoon.
Mrs. L.A. told me that the new tables were installed at the Mexican restaurant. The tables are laminated with ads from local businesses. One of the ads is for her business.
I’m waiting to hear what sparkly color Shoe painted the ratties toenails today. Seems only fair that they get to feel good about themselves too. Do they wriggle? Squeal delightedly? Most importantly, do they tip well?
Or Sticky
All she was talking about was taking off confining wires (hers) to create a confining wire enclosure for the ratties. First thing I do too after walking in the door is the whipping off of my confining wires. I’ve given up on trying to confine my kitty beasts in any kind of enclosure so I don’t even try for for building the second. The most self discipline I expect of myself is to not leave lacy things scattered all around the living room wherever they landed. Although that might improve the decor of the place…
Hope you enjoy it all, you sure deserve some enjoyment after your week at ‘irk. Please come back and tell us all about it. Especially the getting together with people and dipping your toes in the water at the beach. I live more than a thousand miles from a beach in any direction. Sigh…
And after your past few weeks chillage (and lots of it) is certainly what you have coming. The furniture shopping sounds like fun. Living room comfy seatIng? Bedroom comfy sleeping?
I’ll buy you a riding mower if you’ll come mow my yard. A team of mules and an old plow ok?
Two of my kitties are having an attack of the zoomies. Have to guard my coffee mug or it will become a casualty of the sport. The Meezer just skidded into living room where I am with the fattest, puffiest tail*. Her zoomie co-conspirator will have to respond with an even grander show-it will probably involve knocking something over that I don’t want knocked over.
*the cat’s tail is fat and puffy, not mine. At least my tail isn’t fluffy. My doctor would argue about it not being fat. I can’t move nearly as fast across wood floors either.
Later,
Boo. Perfectly happy with my nickname. I use BBBoo in formal situations. Like that one too.
Sure! I’ll wave as I pass them on my stand-up mower I wonder what I could get for mules and a plow on Craigs List. Where are all those Let’s Make a Deal contestants when you need 'em?
Nope - we had a Sticky But I don’t recall if that was her original nick or if it was after she changed her username. In fact, I can’t find her in any search, but she did exist! She did!!!
I’ve moved the frame and foundations into the bedroom, but I need help with the mattress. Daughter should be here soon and she can help. I also cleaned the lamps and put them on the night stands. Once the mattress is in place, I can make the bed and finish bringing in the rest of our stuff. Then I think I’ll load all extraneous stuff into the guest room so it’s out of the way for the painters on Moanday. And once the house is put back together, I’ll clean the carpet in the guest room.
I also pushed the vacuum cleaner around to pick up the big chunks. It’s hard to care about the carpet since it’s going to be replaced shortly, but vacuuming is easy, so why not?
SotedSorted… Told Gordie out, he ended his 48 hour hold out(in?) and pooped. They were doing renovations on the upstairs apartments today, so Brody spent the day losing his Skittles.
This one time at freezer camp…
And yay for non gnaed pink sprakly nails!
[McCoy]Dammit, Jim! They’re rats, not Weebles![/McCoy]
