My very first MMP!

Afternoon all. Have read, but Ms Brain is taking the day off.

:honey_pot: successfully harvested yesterday evening (it’s always better to try and extract it in the evenings, 'cos if bees are flying and they happen to find you, they sometimes try and yoink it back). I don’t currently have jars, just buckets so I’ll have to get that sorted soon. I think I have about 4kg, but I don’t have any appropriate scales- worth harvesting, not more than I can deal with.

The questionable 2 year course starts up next week- it’s for a teaching qualification, but, well, I still dunno. I’m having to start, but I am looking at other options- for a start, my current wages situation is a bit dodgy; I have only 15 hours contracted, all the rest are ad-hoc, so may well not even last all the academic year, and I’ll certainly have to find something else over summer. Not a situation I want to be stuck in for 2 more years.

Anyway, that’s a dither for another time and place, really- today’s decisions shall be more on the lines of ‘can I be bothered to go walkies later’ and ‘what’s for dinner?’ I’m thinking maybe a short walk, and a pasta broccoli bake.

Thanks for the hugs yesterday.

I met a friend for breakfast at my local tiny diner (his first time there), then decided to go to the little amusement park in Ohio. We had a good turnout of approximately 30 people, most of who I know or at least recognized. I rode their little coaster a few times, played a round of mini-golf (badly), had park food for dinner, then drove home. The drive was a little over 2 hours each way and I was exhausted. Despite a gazillion signs, mask wearing was not enforced and ran about 50% although I am proud to say that everyone in our group wore one, even the toddler. It was good to be among silly friends.

I learned on the turnpike that my EZ Pass transponder has apparently died. I checked my account and it’s up to date but it’s about 12-13 years old and is external, so I suspect it’s finally been exposed to too much weather and/or it’s little battery has finally gone to battery heaven.

My big excitements for today are laundry, vacuuming, more closet purging/organization, bathroom cleaning and maybe, just maybe, I’ll give the basement its annual shop vac treatment. It’s cooler here now so I’m also thinking of throwing some freezer odds & ends in the crockpot for soup. I’m starting to sound like FCM here! :grinning:

Happy Sunday!

My phone lied to me this morning. I checked the weather before getting dressed and my phone said it was 48 degrees outside.
No, it was 35 degrees outside, which explains why the grass was sparkly, and why a woman on the small dog side was asking me if there was a frost last night. I thought she was talking about frogs, and was wondering why she thought they would kill her tomatoes.

Anyway, I might have been cold , (time to pull out the long underwear and battery heated socks), but the dogs were having a great time. Ripple was acting like a puppy again. Not too many people showed up though, I guess it’s too cold for some.

Came home and my son wanted to know of we could turn the heat on. So I went upstairs and closed my bedroom windows. I grabbed a protein bar while I was up there, brought it back downstairs to eat it. Took one bite and had to spit it out - I tasted peanut. Looked up the ingredients online and peanut flour is one them. I think I’ll be okay, my eyes, face, and ears are a little itchy.

I guess I’ll do the stuff today that I should have done yesterday. My son unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher and started it. I’ve put a load of clothes in the dryer. The lawn/fence guy called me last night but irk was busy, so I need to call him back this morning. Need to talk about painting the bathroom and getting a new tub.

I finally heard from both friends in Oregon. One had to evacuate, but she is back home now. The other friend is okay, didn’t have to evacuate. She told me that she never appreciated how pretty a blue sky is until now.

Guess I need to get busy around here.
And I need some breakfast, and since I can’t eat the protein bar I need to figure out something else.

Happy birthday butters!

Happy birthday nellie!

Up, caffeinating and breakfasted. Just messing around in the studio after KP with a dog park visit possible in the afternoon.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Gordie is still snoozing, but there was an episode of sleep growling earlier.

:birthday: :champagne: Happy Birthday nellie!!! :champagne: :birthday:

:amphora:<–We have an amphora smiley!

Happy birthday!

Happy Birthday to those who are suddenly a year older!

OW - I’m glad you had a fun, distracting day. Yesterday marked one month since my wife passed away, and I did the same thing. Out with friends I hadn’t seen in quite some time, catching up and talking.

Today is a maintenance day for me as well. Sweeping, scooping, dusting…the list goes on and on.

Our local fire is semi-contained and moving away from town, but is really doing a number on the local forest trails.

Hi swampy! It feels permanent, but I’m really only here until it’s reasonably safe to travel. I miss my house, friends and family (not necessarily in that order) in Ohio, but it seems dumb to travel when I have a perfectly safe place to stay here. (I have lots of family and almost family here, so even though we don’t see each other up close, for the most part, I’m definitely not alone.) In non-pandemic world, I split my time between the two. And, yes, the flexibility is brought to me by retirement, which is something I heartily endorse, if you have that luxury.

The rot damage is worse than we originally thought, requiring another trek to Lowe’s. Then as we were leaving, daughter called from Lowe’s - they’d seen us leaving and they wanted advice on buying a cordless drill, so we turned around and went to help them.

Upon coming home, we cut the lumber, and we’re now awaiting pizza delivery. With luck, we should be able to wrap up the repair in about 90 minutes. And by expressing that, I just cursed us to a 4 hour job… :stuck_out_tongue:

I did manage to get all of Roxy’s stuff moved into her room and I’ve put some boxes back in the guest room. I’ve decided to take all the dining room chairs out to the shop where I can disassemble them, clean them, and reupholster them. Plus it will get them out of the painters’ way. And I’ll finish removing miscellany from the rooms to be painted.

After lunch. Where is that delivery professional???

Oooooh, that sounds lovely. When I lived in Berlin (4 million years ago) we would make garlic bread with pide. It was the best. Can you share your recipe?

It’s a NYT recipe, so it may be firewalled:

I really need to learn how to quote posts. It would make my replies faster.

Happy birthday to nellie and butters!

Glad you went to the park, OW! I’m sure it must be hard to hit key dates without ruble by your side. Hugs.

Thanks for sharing the recipe, Chef. I’ll figure out a way to get to it and transcribe/rewrite it on the Mumpers’ recipe blog.

Happy Sunday, all!

Took Gordie out, and he did his war cry against a neighbor’s dog. Which might be scary, if it didn’t sound like Thundar the Barbarian’s cry, done by a 5 year old girl who had just sucked down a balloon full of helium. :dog:

{{{{Miss_Owl}}}} Glad you were among friends yesterday.

Thank you for the Happy Birthday wishes! They were so great to see!

So far, the birthday is going great! I’ve had texts and phone calls and the best ecard ever made and lots of greetings on Facebook. I shall share the celebration with the plants on my balcony: they get liquid confetti today. (It’s just water, but I’ll sprinkle it with wild abandon.)

OW, so glad you had a good day yesterday among your friends.

swampy, if you keep ushin’ every week, you’re going to become a priest by osmosis.

Moooom, as always, your industriousness amazes me. Question: I have dining room chairs that have lost support in the seat. You don’t sink onto the floor or anything, but they’re not very comfortable. Is there an uncomplicated way for me to fix them? Otherwise, I’m going to have to get rid of them and get new (to me) ones.

Late to the party. Happy Birthday to the Birthday Bunch, and hus to OW.

If you had told me just 7 months ago that that was how I’d spend our anniversary this year, I would have thought you were crazy.

And now for some positive news. After much thought and talking to a couple of friends, I recently signed up on two on-line dating sites aimed toward 50+. I’ve communicated with four men so far -– one dumped me after a few days (it was actually funny), one has simply stopped replying, and the third one is getting on my last good nerve and doesn’t seem to have a life other than staring at the computer waiting for me to log on.

Now, remember the friend I said I met at the diner yesterday morning? He was the fourth guy from the site. We have a lot in common, he writes long, informative, interesting messages (as do I) and in our first exchange, he told me his full name but didn’t ask for mine. However, he has a less common first name and in his profile said what type of unusual business he’s in, so a quick Google turned up both his website and his FB page before I responded to him. We talked about a local restaurant and he said he’d been wanting to get back there for a while, so I got brave and asked if he’d like to meet for lunch. He said yes and we set it up for next weekend. In the meantime, we discovered that we both like diners and on Friday night, I mentioned in passing that I was going to my local diner Saturday morning. He asked if he could join me, and he did. We had a nice long conversation and I felt very comfortable with him. I’m really curious to see where this is going to go. :slightly_smiling_face:

In my wild and crazy youth, when I learned kolache making in the kitchen of a foster mother only 2 generations from the old country, I made it with a mortar and pestle to crush the poppy seeds. As I remember we always ended up with poppy seeds skittering all over the kitchen. Swept them up for days. Nowadays I buy it already prepared, sometimes tweaking it a titch.

Initial coffeenating still in progress, oatmeal done and awaiting me in the microwave. Regular gourmet cook I am. If it wasn’t for Ms. Keurig and Chef Toshiba-1000 watts, I wouldn’t eat at all.

iPads are for the least of computer users. I have an iMac in my closet, a hand me down from my IT son, awaiting set up-but he moved to San Antonio two weeks later and it never got set up. That he took the keyboard and mouse with him will certainly slow that down. Maybe we can set up an iPad tutoring session soon (over coffee and pastries in South O), now that you’re a retired gentleman of leisure and all.

Must be hanging out in the same place my brain has been for months.

Glad you survived the outraged hordes :honeybee::honeybee::honeybee:

And you lived to tell the tale

Half of the electricity in my house went off😨an hour ago. All the overhead lights and 2 outlets. Breaker panel is fine. Of course it’s Saturday and electricians are on time and a half. The electrical company is coming to check outside lines-they told me when I called in that “uh, yah, we are working on a couple of issues in your area”. I’d much rather have it be their problem than me have to pay. The 12 year living here doesn’t get it-it’s been an hour, why haven’t her mom and I fixed it already? She’s got outlet power to recharge her phone and gaming computer-what else does she need? Kids today, sheesh. Ok, my little rant is over.

Sounds like a fun day:roller_coaster::ferris_wheel::carousel_horse::in_hole:. I’d have to drive 200 miles to Kansas City to find an amusement park and my housemate refuses to go. Other than this she’s a worthy person.

So glad you had a day surrounded by friends and improving air. :crossed_fingers:t3:for you and all Mumpers out west. Can’t wait for y’all to get lots of :cloud_with_rain::cloud_with_rain: and :dashing_away::dashing_away:.

Boogot to sign off and waiting for the power company lineman. Boogers.

Update: a couple of lineman are working out in the yard. The first guy called in a second one after he checked the line? cable?. They seem to be installing a whole new power cable from the pole in the alley to my meter box. Guess that answers the question of whether it will be on my dime or theirs.

It would be more reassuring if the first one up on the ladder holding the new power line in his hand hadn’t just yelled to the guy on the ground “no, Mikey, leave the power OFF!” It was more of a screech/bellow than merely a yell, actually.

Well, the first guy must of survived his helper. He’s making power drill noises outside the dining room bay window.

The 12 year old is chomping at the bit because she has a big video screening due to start in two hours. How does she think I feel? I’ve written my morning Mumper post and hitting ‘reply’ gets me nada. Talk about frustrating! Mumps interuptus.

Electricity is back. The guys (Mikey seems to not have killed off his co-worker) both walked back to their cherry picker truck and drove away down the alley.

The 12 year old is doing a happy dance in her room. Now I need to around the house and reset all the digital clocks. My housemate can finish feeding her fish (Sil and Crim).

Crisis averted.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, got back to da cave, foraged for N.O.L., and achieved nappage. How do we keep up such a strenuous pace!

Happy Bday Butters! I knew this earlier from the book of faces, but just now gettin’ around to postin’ here. I’m old, retired, and go at my own pace these days. :older_man:

Miss_Owl glad you had a good time. Sounds like you found a nice person to hang out with.

My iPad is sitting on the GM’s desk at my now former place of employment. All of my/their invoicing, reports and payroll stuff is/was on the company iPads. It was all third party software controlled by a few websites somewhere else.
