Done my share of poppyseed kolaches-a Cedar Rapids, Iowa girl has to earn her Czech Girl merit badge. What would you like to know? I’ve never done them with bread machine dough but that would make it easier than it used to be.
Chilly 43 degrees at the park this morning.
Even with a coat on I was cold. We only stayed 2 hours, I couldn’t take it anymore.
Usually I’m good until it gets below freezing.
You’d never know that Echo has had surgery. She seems to be doing well and her sutures look good.
I have to take the zen collar back, we never used it. She leaves her stitches alone. She won’t let me look at them, but she will let her friends at the park look. Go figure.

I have stuff to do but I want to take a nap. I shouldn’t but I probably will.
It rained yesterday. Yay! Most of the smoke is gone. We have blue skies and we can see the hills across the river again.
Today we will move stuffs back into the basement and hopefully go to the county fairgrounds hazardous waste cleanup to take a couple of boxes of hazardous chemicals the previous owner left.
Y’all have a good weekend. Yarr!
Can’t find my sig line, so I’m faking it.
Goodbye Ruth. you were the best of us. We will miss you.
I was awakened this morning by a text from my son: would I be home all day today? I knew that meant a delivery. I figured flowers. A bit later, I answered a knock on the door, and a woman said, “I just need a signature for the alcohol.” !!! They sent gorgeous flowers AND champagne AND a ribeye steak AND ice cream! And tomorrow evening we’re going to do a Zoom call, my son and DIL and my daughter and SIL. Yay! In the midst of a very tough year, my birthday is shaping up to be wonderful, knock on wood.
I think I’m done crying about Justice Ginsberg passing. Dang, maybe not. But I keep reminding myself to fight, fight, fight in her honor.
{{{{{OW}}}}} By this time, you’ve made your choice, and it will have turned out to be the right one.
Oh, shiver me timbers, I should be talking like a pirate! I used to do that every year. When a student misbehaved, I’d threaten to make him walk the plank. But then, since I was a history teacher, I’d read 'em Cecil’s column about how that was a myth. Ignorance fought, threat rendered useless.
We have achieved a furniture order. First place we went had a recliner that FCD liked, but not much else. I have to say I truly hate furniture that’s a combination of leather and fabric - apologies to any of you that may have it, but I’ve never seen it done in a way that I would consider attractive. And the stuff this first place had was pretty tacky.
Second place - the same company we bought our last furniture from - had truly hideous stuff, ranging from meh to OMG what were they thinking??? So we went to get some lunch and decided to go to LaZBoy. I was concerned about the price there, but FCD pointed out how much he’s been making on these contracts he’s working, and even if he just did 40-hour weeks, even the priciest stuff would come to less than a month of his income. And, as he observed, this will probably be the last furniture we have to buy anyway. Plus one contract has been extended thru the end of 2021.
So, we’re getting a powered recliner sofa that also has 2 USB charge ports, and 2 powered recliners, also with USB ports, and 2 tables with 3 drawers and a flip-up compartment that has 2 outlets and a USB port. So no matter where you sit, you can charge up!
The sofa and tables will arrive by late October, and the recliners, since the upholstery is a custom order, will probably get here in early January. Now I need to figure out the (non-camo) window treatments.
So, fun day. And the last load is about to go from the washer to the dryer.
I have achieved nappage and fed myself. Life is good. It’s been cloudy and coolish today so even opened up da cave windows. Again, life is good.
**MOOOOOOM ** you could spice up the bedroom with these drapes. Your living room would be oh so elegant with these drapes. Your kitchen would be homey with these curtains. You’d be the envy of all your friends and neighbors!
Evening all. The afternoon soccer game has been played (we were tied at halftime then made a couple of mistakes and lost 1-4) and fluids have been taken onboard, so feeling pretty good. Had a new pair of ‘sports shoes’ on today, for $10 at Wal-Mart they did pretty well. Very cloudy, but no rain in the forecast so yard will be watered tomorrow.
nellie, that’s a pretty good son you have there…no, that’s a GREAT son you have there.
FCM, if your LaZBoy store is priced like mine, then FCD is really doing well…but if you got what will make you happy for the next couple of decades, then it was worth doing. Sounds like we can all bring our laptops when we hold the next MMP get-together at your place…
In fact I did unload Anvils today. And my supervisor is one of the five Canadians on Earth who doesn’t like hockey.
{{{{Miss_Owl}}}} Do what seems best, there is no wrong way to grieve.
MetalMouse - he’s doing really well - in fact, he’s very much in demand because he’s that good at what he does. And since what he’s doing is mostly design and analysis, there’s virtually no costs beyond electricity, internet, and phone, plus payroll for our daughter for doing administrative and miscellaneous crap work. Yeah, LaZBoy ain’t cheap, but then cheaper stuff generally seems to be really cheap, for a different definition of cheap.
And it’s not like we’ve got a lot else to spend on - travel ain’t happening for a while, nor is much dining out, and that’s where most of our disposable income used to go. So we’re fixing up the house.
Laundry is done. I need to empty, then refill the dishwasher, then I quit for today. More busy tomorrow.
Stopped at Wally World for Saturday night party supplies. Okay, drinking water and kitty litter. The fun train stops right here, y’all.
Anyway, I overhead a mom going over their list with her two little kids, just as they passed the cupcake displays by the front.
In that indulgent voice (you know the sound) she asked them both very solemnly, in all seriousness, “Do we need cupcakes?”
“YES!” came the immediate response, in stereo.
I couldn’t help but mutter, “Awww!” under my breath into my mask. Another shopper overhead me and chuckled at that … so it was just cuteness all around.
You do a pretty good pirate, swampy I LOL’d.
I’ve decided on leftover black bean soup for dinner. Fart fest to follow!
Sound the trumpets!
I’m soooo glad you are having a lovely birthday! I’m glad you were born too.
Is a zoom kolache making session in the works do ya think?
Boo
Thought all of us had been working with you on your non-camo or giant cow ass curtains insistence. Do the lot of us have to do an intervention to get you back on the right track? And we’ll need a description of the custom couch material too.
We can take turns-there will be a lot of us. The more the merrier! That would be great-any of you up to teaching a geezerette how to work her iPads? I can google, email and take pictures. Download online library books. That’s about it. saving? Putting something I may want later in a file? Backing it up? (That’s ok, can’t back up a trailer either) clearing my cookies (why would you want to get rid of your cookies? So, I’m full of potential, unrealized potential. Someone can drag me into the 21st century. Fun times-y’all can snicker about my computer daftness when I’m outside hanging the laundry.
If my Wallie world was this sweet, I’d go more often. Nice you could make a stranger’s day nicer too.
Did my granddaughter wrangling day today so I’ll be around more tomorrow for Mumping. I’m tired though-she was having an “I WANT MY MOMMY!” day, complete with throwing herself face down on the floor whenever she could hear her mom come back into the house from her errands, as if I’d been beating her the whole while her folk were gone running around to get their list of to-finds done. Guess it wasn’t her daddy’s day to be favored either.
You have a sweetheart of a son nellie. I hope you enjoy your celebration.
I did the wind therapy international tour this afternoon: Lebanon, Rome, Carthage, Peking and Alexandria. I was out for about five hours and enjoyed every minute of it.
Once home, I took Nelson to the dog park. Watson and Jersey weren’t there, but Bya and Junior were, along with a new chiweenie named Pooh and his housemate Becka. They were both rescues. Becka had been a breed dog at at puppy mill for ten years and her human said that it had left her with a lot of psychological scars.
We were there until dark, then went to the gyro place drive thru for supper. It’s chill time now.
I told my co-workers about my ratties, during a “get to know the newbies” moment at the end of a quiet shift, a while back.
Now, a few of my co-workers routinely bring their stale graham crackers, broken bits at the bottom of an old bag of Triscuits, etc. and leave them for me in the break room.
My manager even specifically left behind an uneaten sandwich in the fridge yesterday, instead of trashing it, and came by the next day to tell me it was for me.
He did have a bemused expression. “It’s for your, uh … rats” but still, he did go out of his way.
I’m touched! They’ve made comments about how “better it goes to some use, instead of the landfill” and one even credited me with inspiring her to clean out her kitchen cabinets (“I can see the top of my fridge now!”) so win-win all around, I suppose.
Plus, the ratties occasionally get new and interesting snacks, and that is the single greatest joy in any rodent’s life. Win-win-win then.
… and now, for your evening’s amusement, my favorite “win-win … -win” moment:
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and rainy(ish) with a predicted high of 75 and mostly cloudy for the day. The band of rain comin’ through should be gone in a couple of hours accordin’ to TWPTB. We shall see. The big plan for today is deheathenization (ush duty, yet again) followed by comin’ back to da cave to forage for N.O.L. as there is still stuff in da fridge that needs to get et up. Nappage is also on the agenda and not much else.
Nellie have a great bday today! Your son is da bomb for what he did. Hope you have fun Zoomin’ with everyone. I would do my sing real loud schtick, but don’t know how on this new fangled board.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance, Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.
I can’t believe I forgot to acknowledge nellie’s b-day yesterday! I meant to when I read her post, then my stoopit brain said “OK” and promptly did a data dump. Hope it was a good one!
It’s a chilly 45° out this morning, making me glad I closed most of the windows last night. But I still switched the heat on to take the chill out of the air. Not ready to fire up the pellet stove, so there’s that. We’re not supposed to see the 70s till Weds! I guess autumn has arrived… till maybe an October heat wave?
FCD is still abed and I’ve just finished my toast, tho caffeination continues. After my morning surf, I’ll start moving stuff to the guest room, and once my sweetie gets up, I’ll shower and dress and the day will truly begin. First on the agenda is the floor repair. Other things on to-do include clearing crap off this desk so I can pull it away from the wall, cutting back the carpet along all walls, taking down the blinds in the living room and kitchen, and ironing and hanging some curtains. And either today or tomorrow, I need to make a convenience center run, plus get some groceries and pick up some meds for FCD.
We’ve decided all the stuff that goes into the guest room will stay there till the new carpet is installed. I just need to make sure to arrange things so that potentially required items will be accessible. We’ll see how accurate my psychic abilities are.
I am not an iPad user. I can do any and all of what you mentioned from my iMac or Macbook Pro or even [shudder]on a PC[/shudder] I am not much of an iPad user.
