Why is everyone acting like “Pretty White Girl” syndrome is a new phenomenon?

I hope and pray that nobody with power in Hollywood reads the above (at least not before the Writer’s Strike ends)

Joran would totally be Britney’s bitch- I’m guessing she’s snorted things the Incans and Afghans would have run screaming from.
Who is this “everyone” you speak of? :dubious:
The same dangers faced by a party in Aruba (too much drink, too much drugs, skeevy guys who want to get in your pants and aren’t too concerned about pesky things like consent) are equally present at any college campus. If your kid is too young and naive to deal with the one, she’s probably too young and naive to deal with the other. I don’t really see how an extra three months working a McJob is going to be the deciding factor between “partying responsibly” and “having your corpse dumped off-shore.”
Heh, nice!
Aruba has an enviable crime record when compared to most U.S. cities. And she WAS supposed to be supervised. The supervising parents were rather lax and will undoubtedly regret being so for the rest of their lives. I don’t think Holloway’s parents were acting the least bit irresponsibly.
If anyone needs to have stones thrown at them, it would be the van der sloot’s.
I’m sorry that Natalie Holloway is dead. I extend my sympathies to her family and friends. However, I know someone who taught her in high school and she was far, far from being a “nice” girl.
Not to mention his spice addiction.
I have never claimed she was a nice girl but I think even a girl who was Slutty McSlutterson (not saying she was) didn’t deserve to be dumped off in the ocean without anyone even trying to summon help for her if that is indeed what happened.
I think the media should be ashamed for the constant coverage when other people of other races and backgrounds went missing that same week with barely a mention.
But I can’t get behind the mindset of “Oh well…she was stupid and that’s what happens to people who are stupid.”
I went on a senior trip to a foreign country when I graduated and I actually did go visit musems and whatnot and wasn’t interested in drinking on the trip. I’m sure I made some stupid choices though, not being from the area/culture/etc. and being an overall trusting person.
Guess I’m just lucky I didn’t wind up like Natalee.
That would be funnier if it weren’t so true. You find all sorts of things in the Fox…all sorts.
Um, yea. In the tape, he states that he walked to a nearby pay phone, called a buddy and the buddy came and dumper her in a boat.
Wouldn’t ya think that (even in Aruba) they’d have checked out phone calls from the pay phone? and especially checked out person called in the middle of the night? and been even more interested if that same person had a link to the main suspect? and even more interested if that same person also had a boat? instead of picking up this twerp and the two brothers every couple of months. The story I read had the defense attorney stating that there were provably false things in the ‘confession’, and noted above. I believe that damn near anyone who had a boat and knew this guy was checked out.
Out of curiosity, do you mean she was “not nice” in the sense that she was slutty and or used drugs, or that she was a snobby/bitchy person?
And this is exactly what he wants everyone to believe. He killed her. Everyone believes he killed her. So he “confesses” to just dumping her body (and not killing her) while being “secretly” videotaped. It’s genius. Since he was supposedly unaware of the videotaping, people believe that what he said on the tape must be true. All of a sudden he’s not a killer, he’s just a kid who found himself in a bad situation and made a horrifyingly bad choice. Never mind the fact that he is a scumbag, suddenly his word is gold. Baffling.
I don’t believe it for a second. If the girl you just finished banging dies and you didn’t kill her you don’t dump her in the ocean, thus making you a suspect in her death. You call for help, because that’s what an innocent person would do.
From what I heard on the radio, that pay phone did not work and the friend that was supposed to have helped was in another country.
at any rate, easily proved false.
Based on the facts I’ve seen so far, I would guess that he gave her drugs (either slipped into her drink or accepted willingly), she had a bad reaction and collapsed, and he panicked and got rid of her.

Here is some more information.
One thing about this guy-he seems to express no emotion whatever. Is he a psychopath? His parents seem to be honest people-have they fallen for their son’s masquerade? He reminds me of Scott Peterson-didn’t bat an eyelash when they found the bodies of his wife and child.
I guess they (the prosecutors0 don’t have any chance of a conviction, as long as no body turns up!
Unless you count petulance.
I’ve no way of knowing his guilt of course, but if it was murder (such as a date rape drug that went wrong) then his taxi-cab confession could be a brilliant move since essentially he’s unofficially plea bargained by confessing to a much lesser crime than manslaughter.
IIRC didn’t it emerge that he has a history of sexual assault accusations against him? I can’t find it on google but then I haven’t looked that hard.
