Byron and I would certainly be up for such a thing. Des Moines or Omaha are likely the best choices. In the event of a Des Moines thing, there’s plenty of room here for several people to crash overnight.

Yup - I’m here in lovely Des Moines along with Chris and Neobican. I’m also willing to travel - I have lots of family in Omaha that I can stay with. Or, if the party is in DSM, my apartment is open for travelers too. (I don’t have NEAR the room that Chris & Neo have, though).
Our house in Bellevue (south of Omaha) is open to travellers also. (Just us and the baby are here and we have extra rooms, lots of couches, a foldout bed, and a guest room.)
What do you all think of getting together in Omaha for lunch and the zoo? Or going to Rocky Horror Picture Show in Des Moines? Just a few ideas…

I wanna go to Des Moines!!! Great, now the hubby and I are goin’ rounds because I have never seen that movie in the theater. The closed the only theater down around here that was willing to show it. But he says the zoo is great.
You guys decide and then let me know, I’m in for a trip.

I’m going to have to rally for Des Moines…Byron really wants to be a part of one of these things, but in the six weeks since he started his new job, he’s only gotten one weekend off.

I see where you get that I’m from NE, I’ve posted that, but why do you assume I’m within 3 hrs. of Omaha? (“Oma-hell”) Just wonderin’.
I really don’t want to travel to Iowa. I’m not wild about going to the big ‘O’. But were you to do something in Lincoln I would try to make it. (Damn! I guess that gives it away…) I can add that if in D.M. tasty BBQ can be had at Famous Dave’s on Merle Hay Rd. Lincoln has its own Famous Dave’s but I don’t think it’s as good. In Omaha McKenna’s at 72 & Pacific has dyn-o-mite BBQ. Unless you’re vegetarians, but this IS NE/IA right?
Also- did you folks hear that the Bushkoetters split up? (That’s right, everyone knows everyone out here!)
I assumed it after looking at your web page that you were in Lincoln. Here or DM sounds fine to me. Does Famous Dave’s have any vegetarian items? I’m not, but I think yosemitebabe is.
ChrisCTP, thanks for the offer of a sitter. That would make DM (and RHPS) possible for me. The thought of pumping my milk all that weekend is depressing.

No kidding!? Damn, and after they went and painted the house and all! Shoot. Can’t say I’m surprised though, or even sorry to hear it. Just seemed like she had to walk on eggshells around that guy. And talk about emotional distance – that husband of hers? Did he have Clue #1 about how to listen?
So what happened? She meet somebody at work? Cuz I know there’s no way he was gonna let her go – not if he really wanted to keep the farm.

Well, I’m not exactly lurking – waiting to hear what the majority comes up with – but I’m famous (around here) for saying I’ll be somewhere on a weekend and then not showing up, so I’m not even gonna vote.
But if I was gonna vote, I’d suggest April, since March travel can be pretty iffy around here.
Had snow in April too! I was gonna suggest May myself. Shouldn’t be too bad in April this year since it’s been a mild winter. But it usually goes without saying that when winters here start out mild we get hit hard in the end.
Was up towards 50 here today, and tomorrow is supposed to be back in the upper teens! Go Iowa!!! LOL Gotta love it here, you never know what to expect. Should send out the e-mail about how you can tell if someone is from Iowa, you will bust a gut!
Anyway like I said before, you guys pick a date, and I will be there.
So March is probably out, which, having thought on it, is probably a good thing. That’s my big birthday month. (My mom, my aunt, my dad, my cousin, and two quasi-nephews.) What with Bowen’s birthday coming up shortly after that on April tenth, I’m going to say that the next best time for me would be late April/early May.
Omaha v. Des Moines…what’s your vote?
(FTR, in case anyone missed it, I’ll travel, but I’m voting Des Moines so that Byron can actually be there.)
Oh, and there are three other Dopers in the Des Moines area: The infrequently posting CatRimbaud, the even-more-infrequently posting Froololly, and the never-posted-but-frequently-lurking-and-attending-the-Springfield-gathering Terry.
Ok, I’ll vote for Des Moines because I want to meet ChrisCTP and her family, and get out of Omahell for a while. It’s not like it’s a long drive for me. And late April/early May sounds fine with me. The winter weather should be gone by then, let’s just hope tornado season doesn’t start early, eh? :rolleyes:

Well, I am up for a Dead Moans gathering, if there is to be one, as my car is a useless, hideous, filthy piece of crap and I think I would otherwise have to hitchhike to Omaha. Besides, the zoo makes me sneeze.
Also, I would be up for Rocky because I am a cheap-ass and people there will buy me drinks so I won’t have to bum from any of you lovely people.
Late April/early May works for me as well. If it is here, it doesn’t matter when, really.
Plus, being middle ground, TVeblen might be persuaded to make the jaunt ONE MORE TIME…please oh please…I promise this time I won’t get evicted, have my car repoed or my grandfather die. Especially not all at once again, anyway…
