Veb lives in the Quad Cities (Illinois side). She was in Des Moines hanging with me and Boli in the beginning of January, and she’s not at all happy about missing the Springfield gathering, so she might try to make it up to Des Moines again. I’ll email her the link to this thread and see what she has to say.
Hey, thanks Chris for giving me the heads-up on this! Yeah, I’d love to come.
Des Moines is only about 3.5 hr. drive from here, so that’s pretty convenient for me. Of course you all realize I’m jinxing this by saying “yes”. Seems like every time I get my heart set on a Doper meeting some godawful mess blows up at work.
Hmmmm. Wonder if that’s a sign??
Anyhoo, love to meet you guys and count me in! BTW, CatRimbaud, thanks for the kind words; wish I could have met you before but hey, disasters happen. Maybe this time around…
Well guys were about to get a foot of snow here. Sorry that I sent that energy out earlier. I guess it is a good thing that we are thinking later then March.
Veb if you are on the Ill. side of QC maybe we could get together earlier, and then ride to Des Moines together. I can help ward off any evil spirits for us both so we can make it.
Kricket: You take responsibility for the snow and then you say you’ll be able to provide good karma for the trip?
Ok, great, so it seems we’ve decided on Des Moines, late April/early May…how about April 29th?
Byron and I have plenty of room here…two couches and a foldout, and a twin bed, not to mention a couple of sleeping bags and extra blankets and plenty of floor space. I’m estimating that two people could fit at Boli’s, but I’ve only been inside her apartment once, and all I really remember about it is that it’s super-clean. Magazine-quality.
PR: There’s plenty of room in Bowen’s bedroom for us to set up the playpen, so don’t worry about bringing a whole bunch of stuff for Chris unless you really want to. We have playpen, plenty of toys, baby blankets, spitties, etc.
forgive my lack of capitalisation… one of my more irritating quirks…
this would be the rarely-posting-mostly-lurking froololly… as i have 4 kids, 1 van, and a husband who needs it for employment purposes, i’m definately casting my vote for des moines. (not to mention… i completely empathize with whoever the breastfeeder is… prairie rose?.. i’m breastfeeding my fourth, and nothing stretches out your day like spending every spare minute lactating into a plastic doo-hickey!!)
anyway.
i don’t believe i’ve been to rocky since i only had 2 kids, and i’ve never been to “famous dave’s”, but then, i don’t get out much, and am usually up for anything when given the chance…
I heard about it on the radio,
there was an article in the Lincoln Journal on Tuesday (2.15) if not Monday (2.14). Darryl (his name WAS Darryl right?) said the marriage is not over, and implied that they were seeking outside help. It sounded like a temporary thing (don’t they all?) Juanita didn’t comment.
There was a feature story about them in either the Journal or the Omahell W.H. that I did skim past over the weekend that said things were better for them, at least financially, after the show was aired. Juanita is currently working in Hastings, but I don’t recall if it said what she is doing. I think she was training to be a legal assistant on the show (?) The frontline page from the PBS site has more info about them than you’d ever want to read. I wonder if these new twists have made it on there yet…
Hi Froololly! How old are your kids? My son is 7-1/2 mos., and I plan to wean him at about a year. Breastfeeding is kind of a mixed blessing when travelling. It’s nice that I don’t have to mix/heat/sterilize bottles, but unless I take the pump I’m tied to Chris. You have 4 kids? Wow! You’re a braver woman than me!
ChrisCTP, thanks for the kind offer. I’ll talk to Ken about it. I think he planned on going to a motel because we didn’t want to be a bother to anyone (since Chris STILL isn’t sleeping through the night…grrr.).
And who sent all the damn snow our way? I was planning on going to a poetry reading of a friend’s at Borders (on 72nd St.) but I’m now kinda leery of taking Chris out in the storm. Blech. I hate being snowed in.

my heathens… there are so many, lessee if i can get 'em right…
aubrey will be 8 in march… he weaned himself at 18 mo., ethan is 4… weaned at 15 mo. when i discovered i was pregnant with hayley., age 2… weaned herself at 8-9 mo…, and zoe… 6 mo. and still going strong. she’s just in the past coupla weeks decided that maybe food might not be such a bad idea.
it’s really not so bad as one might think… i just don’t sit much, and my house is ALWAYS a mess. oh… and i’m late for everything.

Hey guys I think I have you all beat here.
I have a total of six! Lynn 17, Sabrina 10, Allyssa 9, Joshua 8, Dylan 3, and Aubreigh 2. I only have gaurdianship of Lynn so not biological, and Sabrina is a step-child who I love as my own, but as for the other four they are all mine.
It seemed like I was forever pregnant.
My Aubreigh is a girl, which confused one of my friends because she had never heard it used as a female name before.
Anyway I have taken full credit for the bad karma with the snow. But you know it is almost 2 in the morning here and nothing yet.
Back to topic. Has anyone come up with anything yet? I think we have enuff parents here to handle any kid stuff we might need, and enuff kids to drive parents crazy! LOL Let me know if anyone needs anything, I will do what I can to help.
ps Always late myself, and don’t even mention well played in houses!
Snow? Yeah, I heard on my radio that the winter storm warning was cancelled for Des Moines, but there I was driving right throught it… seems like checking a window is more accurate these days. Considering I just cleared off what looks like 8" worth of white hell from my acre-sized driveway (well, maybe not a full acre but it sure felt like it) I vow never to trust weatherpeople especially since the groundhog was right last year and Mike Lozano was wrong! (this year he sided with the groundhog… way to cover yer ass Mike)
“Wow! Spider-Man! Are you really friends with the X-men?” "Not since Cyclops tried to use my viewmaster."

Neat-o!! Someone shovelled my driveway! I wonder if my neighbor across the street caught me doing his last time and did it. Either way, it’d be nice to know who to thank. I love this neighborhood (except that the hill hasn’t been plowed yet).

Auntie Pam, Ass boink Iowa? Well, maybe we should all meet there. Can you tell us a bit about the local attractions?
Sorry, I didn’t want to break the flow of the other thread, so I thought I would break up the slowness in here a bit.
I like that. And I said nothing ever happens here in Iowa. LOL
BTW has everybody been dug out of the snow yet? They still haven’t gotten to some of the gravel roads in the sticks yet.
Hoping everybody is warm and cozy!
