New Dip Chaos Game Forming

Yeah, me again.

I’m taking sign ups for a Diplomacy Game with the Chaos variant.

Chaos Variant means that each and every SC starts as an independent nation and each player has only 1. So there’s 34 players to begin with.

Another change: you can build in ANY SC you own that isn’t occupied.

Another change: the game begins with no units in any centers in W00. First orders are what to build.

You can see the map and suchlike here:

I have 19 players signed up so far? YOU aren’t one of them.

You should be! Email me today!

Holy sheezlit.

Well, you wanted me to play Dip again. Count me in.

Send me that crazy email with your name and the email address you want to use!

It’s crazy, man. Crazy.

Still on board, guy. Should be plenty wacky.

Do you assign starting points randomly, or do we get to pick, like Risk?

Nope, it’ll be random. Got to be with this many players.

I saw your announcement on the Cat. I’m definitely considering it. Should be good for a quick laugh.

I’ll probably join this one. Never done a variant yet. But one question: what’s the Dipping typically like? Meaning, am I going to be spending hours each day trying to convince 33 other folks that my plan is the best? Or does one typically chose a few key allies and work with them, shifting alliances occasionally?

Hmm…what happens if you get Spain, St. Petersburg or Bulgaria in the initial draw and choose to start with a fleet? Do you get to choose which coast to start on?

Let’s see…

Lightning, sign up! You know how to reach me.

Shibb, you’ll only have so many neighbors and near neighbors. Communicate with everyone if you want, but how many people you want to is entirely up to you.

Orbifold, yes you’d need to specify which coast you start on. I’d be astonished if someone screwed that up.

Now go sign up!

Email sent. I hereby promise that if I draw Spain I’ll build Fleet Spa (nc).

I don’t envy poor Serbia. Surrounded by 5 other players!

I have a really full plate right now, but I could volunteer later if someone drops out, as I am sure will happen with 34 players.

Yeah but in this game if someone drops out they just get eaten up. Is this going to be anonymous, JC? I imagine it won’t, but knowing other players will be a serious factor in my decisionmaking. Knowing you can count on somebody at least not to NMR, if not to be honest with you, would make a big difference to me. Not that I expect to know anybody in this game unless the SDMB contingent turns out in force.

Email sent, JC. May Og have mercy on our souls.

Well I’ve sent an e-mail in an attempt to sign-up. Tunis, here I come.

Tunis is a pretty good one. I’d be happy to have it. I also like Ankara. Portugal sucks. Sweden is sorta cool.

Hmm, I’m very tempted. I’ve been feelingskinda pressed with all the games going on, but since I’m going to be eliminated soon in one, I might be willing to chance it.

Whats the turn lengths usually like in this, and how long does this variant tend to take? Do you still need 18 SCs for a win?

It’s a lot shorter for some than for others, I’d reckon. I think JC said 3-5 days for turns. I’m sure he’ll be along shortly to confirm.

Thing about Chaos is that it very quickly gets paired down, usually you lose about 18 players after year one.

What the hey. I’m in.

HellOOOO, Denmark

Nah, you’ll get Piscataway, New Jersey.

Yes, you need 18 SCs to win. And I think I said 3-4 days for Spring and Fall, 2 days for Winter and 1 day for retreats.

But I’ll allow significant dip time for W00.
