It’s nice to see another person (there have been several lately) who doesn’t worry about post counts.
Sometimes it’s like everyone has to measure themselves before they get down to the topic in question, and that’s a shame.

I think Biggirl rocks. Hardcore. And I don’t know who else counts as a Newbie, I’m still fairly new myself.
That Cecil Adams that’s been hanging out in MPSIMS lately shows some promise.
Frankly, I’ve been enjoying “the newbies” a lot. Trolls are usually pretty easy to identify; valuable new voices are, too.
::mindwarp:: I still think of myself as a newbie, so it’s a bit of mental whiplash to think of Wally, Coldfire, etc. who are my near-compatriots in registration framework, are now Establishment. Eeerie, us upstarts are now ::shudder:: elder statesmen??!
It isn’t a matter of approving, judging, etc. Really, it isn’t. We can only know people by what they post…and that assumes “we” can put in the reading time to know in the first place. So it takes a while, on all sides.
Ain’t just the way of it? Anyway, new voices are welcome and valued. If takes time to respond individually, that doesn’t mean a lack of welcome or cliquey-bonding, but is more likely a simple lack of time. (There are so many great posters here whom I look forward to reading, but I’ve never told them because stupid stuff like the job, etc. get in the way.)
In all honesty, I can’t say validation doesn’t matter, because I remember the pure rush when some “regs” responded to me, or referred to me. Heady stuff. But the “regs” are just people who’ve bumbled around and gotten to know one another. “Validated” doesn’t equal “valuable”, not the least because any group of fallible people get busy, distracted, etc.
So I say a hearty welcome to all newbies. Most are great additions, and the more the damned merrier. This place is messy, noisy and opinonated. And one helluva lot of fun. So don’t take silence for disapproval, or interpret answers as rejection. Individual relationships take time, and I for one am so backlogged on email from my family that I’m probably disowned by now, much less giving due welcome to new friends on a message board.
Doesn’t mean you aren’t read and enjoyed. So welcome, one and all. The trolls will be culled out quickly, but give the rest of us disorganized folks a bit of time to shuffle around and meet the new neighbors.

By Jove! I didn’t think I was even being noticed. Thanks Billdo! I can’t speak for the other newbies on your list, but I certainly feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Oh definitely warm and fuzzies here. Also a serious case of swelled head. But five minutes of real life cut me back down to size, but the euphoria was nice while it lasted.
Wowser shit. I didn’t realize I was so ‘established’. Or maybe I’m not. I may just think I am.

Thank you, Drain Bead, for your kind words. I am honored to be praised by one of the 19 people whom Cecil personally welcomed. :::bowing and tipping hat:::
Wow! I got mentioned by Gaudere! I think I’m getting a swelled head. Oh no! I’m feeling pride! Is that a sin?
(Furiously checks concordance).
Oh no!
I Tim 3:6 says “Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.”
See! Gaudere wants me to become prideful so I will fall into the condemnation of the devil! I knew he couldn’t be trusted!
But seriously, thanks a bunch Gaudere. You’re not so bad yourself.
I’ve never been a member of the LBMB. I’ve read a few messages there, but that place is a little too hostile for me.
Yes, thank you Pluto, UncleBeer and especially coldfire for the very warm welcome. I have been lurking for a while and really enjoy the lively banter all over the SDMB - thought it about time i dipped a toe.
coldfire:
“London, if you’re lurking: show yourself. We’d love to see more of your excellent writing.”
coldfire - thanks for the compliment ! strangley enough someone just paid me for an article for the very first time. Feels a little odd to be paid to write but i’ll take it !
It’s just a silly piece about women and flouncing,i f you’d like to take a look it’s here:

Hope it raises a smile
Bravo! Any article that celebrates both the flounce and Scarlett O’Hara is OK with me. Come 'round these parts more often, will ya?
Actually, coldfire i meant to especially thank you for your ‘5th May 1945’ thread because it was the emotion of reading that that caused me to first post. Cheers.
London_Calling,
I loved that essay! Very entertaining… I even rated it “Excellent”. I’m sure your boss will be pleased
One again, welcome aboard mate.
LOL coldfire - no boss for me. Just sitting at home on a sunny afternoon trying to avoid decorating by getting my head around Photoshop. Thanks for rating the thing, feel a bit embarrassed now.
Howdy, SwimmingRiddles - nice to meet ya !

Sheesh. I don’t expect to be a popular newbie, but I figured you’d remember me professing my unrequited love for you (and I rarely venture outside of GD).
I don’t care about post counts, so SingleDad has got my vote along with Talkinsquirrel, Esprix and SwimmingRiddles. Then again, I’m forgetting people just like Gaudere.
Fine article, London_Calling. A+
Come around more often!
Ah, but you see, Nen, by professing your love for me you have shown that you are a full-fledged doper, not a newbie anymore. Only matured dopers display the perception and wisdom to have a crush on me. Actually, I just don’t think of you as a newbie (or SingleDad, either, but everyone refers to him as a newbie so I mentioned him). And I see I named Twin as a newbie, and he’s been around since November. Obviously my perception of how long people have been posting is a little out of whack.

Well shucks, now it’s my turn to be flattered.
This is a little OT, but am I a newbie anymore? I still feel like a newbie, but maybe it’s because I’m not one of the popular posters. And my “born on” date is kind of deceiving. My first posts were trading some pretty heavy body blows with DavidB in GD over evolution (considering he’s still taking all comers, he must be absolutely obsessed ). I got tired of that quickly and came back months later. I only started posting frequently relatively recently.
So, do I still qualify as a newbie?
