Newbies That Have Impressed You

I’ve thought of starting this thread for quite a while, and something I read this afternoon finally pushed me to do it.

The idea here is to give recognition to folks who have joined the ranks of active posters recently who have made a positive impression on you. (Your definition of “recently,” and nobody is shut out from posting – if you joined two weeks ago and think that somebody who joined a month ago is someone special, say so!).

First, two GD habitués that have left me thoughtful, smiling, with new insights, and otherwise pleased to have known them. They’re well past real “newbie” status now, but nobody did this for them when they were:

Copaesthetic is one of the people who really make life worth living – the man is brilliant, compassionate, fun to read, and best of all, he thinks a lot like me! (he said modestly ;))

Priam is a teenager who is following in the shoes of Jester, who joins the ranks of legal adults in the near future – thoughtful, intelligent, and mature. His posts belie his calendar age, but speak volumes of his emotional age, which is apparently about triple his calendar one!

The thing that motivated me to start this, however, is seeing the third post by Agent537 in this thread. In a very offhand way, responding to an OP about a messy teenager, he mentions having six years ago married a woman with a 16-year-old mentally deficient son, and having taught him some household chores and the boy’s pleasure at having become a contributing member of the household through doing them (which was the connection to the OP). IMHO, a person who take on that sort of responsibility and then simply mentions it as a matter of course in making a quite different point is emphatically, in the wise phrase of Spider Robinson, One of the Nice Ones.

Kudos to all three of you!

Okay, MPSIMSites, who’s impressed you lately among the new Dopers?

I’m becoming a fan of the prolific and amusing Aslan2. I expect him to contribute a lot to these boards over the course of his SDMB addiction.

Satisfying Andy Licious because he has a great name. Oh, and he made some posts too.

Or maybe I’m out of place in this thread  Nice idea, though.

ME!

Well someone must mention QED. Everyone, including me, thought he’d been around forever, but he just signed up a few months ago! He’s smart and helpful and I always look at what he has to say.

Kid Czarcasm, you’re not only nice, you’re modest too!

Q.E.D., although I’m not sure how new he is any more, has impressed me more than anybody. By my post count, you might think that I’m a newbie, but no, I’ve been here for almost two years now.

Well, I sure hope Q.E.D. is quite proud of himself, as he just got a simulapost all to himself.

And yes, I thought he had registered a long time ago, also

Yes, I’m getting in some much needed post-padding. I mean, come on, I doubt I average half a post a day!

Thank you:)

Actually (as of previous post) you averaged 0.42 post a day. If you want to find out your posting frequency, look into your profile.

I average 3.34 posts a day

Awww, shucks, you guys. I’m all blushing now.

I’m a newbie too, however I would like to say I enjoy the postings of Q.E.D. . He always has something interresting to say or information to deliever.

I knew how to look, but since I’m such a lazy doper, I didn’t bother. I guess that’s why I have such a lousy average.

Look at my post count, JimSox! I’ve been around since God was a boy, yet our hero Q here has triple my posts!

And I really need to take more time into my quotes.

Woo hoo! Post count is going through the roof!

Sorry then, thought you didn’t know.

Well, damn, Ellen we should start a club or something! I don’t know what we’d do, but we could call it the Really Unprolific Posters. . . .or maybe something else. . .anyway, I’m probably getting close to that .5 average now. And yes, I will even check for myself like a big boy.

blushes profusely Aww shucks  Plenty around here better than me, thats why I registered. No good hanging around boards where one learns nothing. And thats one thing I do have to say: for all I bicker with some folks, I’ve learned something from everybody.

'Specially you, Polycarp. You’ve given me faith in Christianity again.

Count me in! Maybe we could be the P.O.U.S.'s (Posters Of Unusual Slowpokeiness)
