I may not know comic books, but I know angels, and this, at best, is a bird colonel facing a four-star general. But I’ve learned not to argue these things.
Amenadiel is not the name of a “real” angel, so maybe he is a Dominion. Lucifer would be a fallen Seraphim or Cherubim.
After he fell, and then gave up his low throne, perhaps a Dominion could whup a Seraphim.
Like a Four star general who went over the enemy then resigned.
A relevant quote from The Kindly Ones(Sandman comic):
It’s not that he can’t take an angel down, it’s what would happen if he did.
Have I mentioned how much I love how this plays on scriptural and apocryphal descriptions of Lucifer?
Well, last night’s episode was great! Lucifer has issues with his “fan club”, while exploring his weakness regarding Chloe; more brotherly / angelic combat; Maze continues to amaze; “Moustache” gets murdery; and Trixie remains as adorable as ever! Fun stuff!
We have the answer as to why Amenidial was able to beat Lucifer on the beach - Lucifer basically didn’t fight back.
We also now know that only angels (and apparently demons with the right knife) can hurt other angels - and Lucifer looking for her wings was fantastic.
"Detective Douche and Detective Stache’ !
All the friendships and relationships were broken in last night’s episode. Every character, excepting Trixie, was on the outs with or betrayed by someone he or she trusted, and Lucifer wasn’t the only misunderstood character.
The angels and demon are becoming more human and more vulnerable – Maze is becoming softer and even a tad compassionate, Amenadiel maybe even falling in love with Maze. But the human characters – is 'Stache becoming demonic, as well as crude and vulgar and presuming? Chloe’s drunkeness last week was unlike her.
Yes, I, too, enjoy the play with with different understandings of what angels and demons are, according to different sources. But the show runners and writers are playing with their own ideas, and making up their own mythology. As long as they keep it smart, and keep giving Lucy some great one-liners to balance the grim stuff, I’m in.
It seems, though, that it’s set up to be a redemption story, which gives it limits and an endpoint.
Sounds like a 1970’s buddy cop show.
Whoever plays “Detective Stache” is a great actor. I am really enjoying watching his descent into evil / madness – great performance!
I love that the newest bad guy is called Mike Carey. Carey was the writer for the fantastic Lucifer comic book series. (And the equally brilliant series of Felix Castor novels.)
Under the maxim of don’t say anything if you can’t say something nice, I guess it’s time for me to get out of this thread. I DVR’d the last episode and didn’t get to watch it until today, but I thought it was stupid. After Stache knocked Douche out and then tied him up so he could go kill somebody, the next day they’re still partners, and hey, partners sometimes have these little spats, amiright? It’s bad enough Douche didn’t turn him in, even though IIRC he said last week that stopping Stache was more important than his career. It’s bad enough he’s letting a dirty cop and wannabe (and now, an actual) murderer stay on the streets. But to let him get behind him with a drawn gun, with no show of concern? Stupid. As is his inability to simply say he didn’t send that text to Chloe. It would take two seconds.
Plus there was literally no reason in the world for Stache to kill that other guy. He wants to impress Lucifer or something? Please. It’s just stupid.
The Maze-Amenadiel romance is stupid, too. Presumably, an angel can see her true face, and when we saw it a few episodes back, it wasn’t what you would call schwing material.
So, too bad. I wanted to like this show.
Not that I expect too much sense from this show, but here are some possible explanations:
Douche:
- Douche already tried to kill 'Stache. In spite of his threat – and I think he is an empty threat kind of guy – he really doesn’t want to reveal the extent of his corruption and his attempt at murder.
- Same thing with Chloe. If he just blurts out “Malcolm sent the text”, there will be all kinds of stories he will have to come up with to explain why and how it happened. Of course he wants to be alone with Chloe to win her over
- Also, he saw “dead” Lucifer come back to life. He knows freaky stuff is going on that he can’t understand or explain. Best to keep a low profile until he figures it out.
'Stache:
He has either gone mad from his brief trip to Hell, or else has been possessed by an insane demon who hitched a ride out on him. Or both.
Amenadiel and Maze:
Opposites attract. Maybe he can’t see her demon face unless he really really wants to. And he doesn’t want to. Taking on a physical body in the material world erodes his ability to withstand temptation. He is changing, as is Lucifer, as is Maze.
I’m looking forward to the season finale.
Well, I enjoyed that finale.
Still annoyed with how Chloe can’t admit that Lucifer is supernatural. Especially after the arrest scene.
I wonder how they’re going to bring Detective Douche back for the second season (assuming they do).
I liked the representation of hell.
Lucifer - you’re afraid- who escaped ?
‘mom’
the entire simFamily applauded - perfectly played.
(although, during the scene, I said it would be a winchester)
The depiction of Hell was pretty neat! (Not that I would want to visit…)
It was a good episode. I particularly enjoyed Lucifer’s interaction with Amenediel at the sexy therapist’s office. Hilarious!
I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had so many good elements. The brother relationship, for one. And people admitting or confessing to their mistakes, from Amenadiel to Dan to Lucifer himself. I loved the fight scene when Amenadiel and Lucifer took on the baddies, and I like it that Lucifer acknowledged Dan’s doing the right thing by calling him by his real name. I like it that all the characters are changing, and aren’t static.
Enjoyed the finale, though when Detective Douche said his greatest desire was redemption, I half expected Lucifer to sigh and direct him to Amenadiel to talk to.
The actress that plays Dr. Martin does exasperated SO well. She really made the season MUCH better. Although her complaints about ethics after Amenadiel impersonated a doctor are a little flat giving how Lucifer was paying for treatment in the first half of the season
Did anyone catch how Lucifer got the Perdition Token back? Gift from God, quick reflexes?
Agreed, and ironically, Lucifer didn’t do anything supernatural in that scene.
Yep, she’s awesome. And what you describe is one of the things that made her such an excellent correspondent on The Daily Show.
Loved that scene! I was cracking up at the image of an archangel and the devil sitting on a psychiatrists couch annoying her!
Also loved that the image of all the drug goons pulling out and pointing their big guns. It looked so like a comic book panel.
Where has Maze gone? I’m thinking she was overwhelmed at the realization that she’d given up her ticket home to help Amenadiel and had to get away. Come to think of it, where does Maze hang out when she’s not at Lux?
About that feather. Why did they need Lucifer’s? Amenadiel has his own wings. Was he too weak for his own feathers to work, do they have to be someone else’s, or are Lucifer’s feathers more powerful? Not sure it matters. The point was for Maze to make a sacrifice.
