Lucifer Season Five

It wasn’t that long ago Season 4 dropped but … what the hell, we know season 5 is coming so why not start talking?

Filming for Season 5 started in early September.

Originally intended to have just 10 episodes, season 5 has had an additional 6 hours tacked on for a grand total of 16 episodes for the last season.

Yes, it has been confirmed and re-confirmed this is really truly the last season of Lucifer.

Titles of the first two episodes are:

“Really Sad Devil Guy”

“Lucifer! Lucifer! Lucifer!”

Other than that, all we got right now is rumors and fan-made trailers posing as the real thing.

Watch this thread for more updates. I expect a slow pace of those up until sometime next spring. We should get the new season before full summer, but subject to change without notice/upon more information.

I really hope that is some sort of Beetlejuice reference.

I was thinking Ricky Ricardo saying “Lucy! Lucy! Lucy!” but I think maybe yours makes more sense/works better.

Considering that Amenadiel always calls him “Lucy”, I have no doubt that they’ll be doing exactly this.

Another update, titles to episodes so far:

Episode 501 – “Really Sad Devil Guy” – Written by Jason Ning, Directed by Eagle Egilsson
Episode 502 – “Lucifer! Lucifer! Lucifer!” – Written by Ildy Modrovich, Directed by Sherwin Shilati
Episode 503 – “!Diablo!” – Written by Mike Coats, Directed by Claudia Yarny
Episode 504 – “It Never Ends Well for the Chicken” – Aiyana White, Directed by Viet Nguyen
Episode 505 – “Detective Amenadiel” – Joe Henderson, Directed by Sam Hill
Episode 506 – “BluBallz” – Written by Jen Graham Imada, Directed by Richard Speight, Jr.
Episode 507 – “Our Mojo” – Written by Julia Fontana, Directed by Nathan Hope
Episode 508 – “Spoiler Alert” – Written by Chris Rafferty, Directed by Kevin Alejandro
Episode 509 – “?” – Written by Joe Henderson (Episode title not being revealed to avoid spoilers)

That’s right, the title of episode 9 is a spoiler. Hmm, wonder how they’re going to handle that when they release the series?

Right now the showrunners are saying the final season will be 16 episodes. The current plan is to divide that season into two parts, so half (more or less) will be released (probably mid-2020) and the last part later in the year.

So 2, 8 episodes seasons, I’m good with that. At least it got rescued. Too many shows I really enjoyed have been axed lately and there aren’t a lot of shows I enjoy on TV anymore.

Dad has been cast: Lucifer casts Dennis Haysbert as God in final season.

Netflix has announced it drops August 21st.

Also, once again my YouTube on this computer has reset itself to autoplay. I really, really hate that. But enjoy the trailer - it certainly generates some food for thought.

And… we’re getting a season 6? Is that true or not?

Nice trailer but a bit spoilery! Should put up a warning or so. It does get me in the mood for the season (or possible a rewatch to warm up).
Lucifer is one of the few shows that is actually fun for me to rewatch. Even if you know what is going to happpen, it is enjoyable to see how it is written and is acted by the cast, in particular Tom Ellis.

Ugh, Dennis Haysbert is almost a deal breaker for me. I liked him when I first saw him on 24, but he’s been that same character in everything I saw him in since, even his Allstate commercials.

S5 dropped here today (Europe). I’ve viewed ep 1 and 2. They’re really good, and set up an entirely new arc for this season. The plot is moving at a brisk pace.

That’s good to hear - I had to work today so I haven’t quite had a chance to watch yet. What do you say, folks - spoiler blurs until this time next week?

I have also watched only a couple of episodes, so do not know yet whether the plot will be just OK, or really good, or operatically crazy, or some combination, or what. Just dropped in to say that I found amusing in the comics the episode where Maze gets so pissed off at Lucifer that she goes off on her own— and when he eventually catches up with her she has moved to Germany and gone into business as an antiques dealer, with everything in her shop being a deadly cursed artifact. No particular reason for it but that could have fit in with the show at some point.(At the beginning of Season 5, she is pissed off at him as usual, but he is absent and she stayed in L.A.)

I am just tickled that Mr. Said Out Bitch is back! It was one of my … desires… for opening the season.

(Since that starts the first scene of the first episode I’m assuming it doesn’t count as a spoiler)

Also looks like we get to see some of what he bought with the loot he got last season opener.

I am definitely enjoying the new season.

Watched ep 3 and 4. Ep 3 is hilarious, ep 4 a nice exercise in style. I’d forgotten how much fun this show is.
On ep 3:

I guess the plot gave the writers and showrunners an opportunity to vent some frustration.

On ep 4:

The end surprised me,but fits in well with setting up the arc for Maze (who apparently suffers abandoment issues). They are clearly outlining the plot issues for the main characters (Chloe’s doubts about her role, Linda’s issue with her abandoned chihld and worry about her fate).

Up to now the season is a nice return to form. I do agree that it still unclear whether they are going for a massive emotional punch in the end or just for a fun ride.

Tiny things I liked (non-spollery):

  • Ella’s enjoyment about the details of a new case
  • Chloe moving out of a meeting with Laura with her own fixed ideas (without really listening), echoing Lucifer’s usual behaviour with Laura.

Only first two episodes so far. I think it needed a stronger start but it’s on solid ground again already.

Doctor and Maze are great characters on this show, Detective and Ella not so IMHO. Is it just me or does Det. Douche look weirder and weirder as the show goes on?

I had a chance to watch a few more episodes, and it is more of the same (which you presumably like if you are watching this show), with the murder-of-the-week happening along with the seasonal “arcs”.

Precisely this.

Having gotten to the halfway point of the total season - that is, episode 8 - it does end on a wham note but it’s only the halfway point for the arcs. I’m really on the fence because the second half of the season will make or break the show for this bit.

Also - if you’re talking about a series involving angels, God’s wife, and so forth is it really out of line to complain about a deus ex machina or is that a narrative trick that actually works in that instance?

(If you wondering - there are two in the first 8 episodes. The first is when God whispers to Amenadiel that hell doesn’t need a warden and he’s free to go back to Earth. The second shows up in the final minutes of episode 8 and… well, it doesn’t get more deus ex machina than that!)

This might interest everyone:

I assume season 6 isn’t just the second half of season 5.

On watching episode 1, it felt like the characters were all a little ‘off’, and the writing seemed off as well. The second episode was much better, and it looks like they are getting their groove back.

I saw something that clearly stated season 5 was being released in two parts and there would also be a season 6.
