NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

What? No horns?

Perdue’s campaign says it was an “accident”. Yeah right.

ETA: I could believe that it was done by someone at that “outside vendor” without Perdue’s knowledge or approval. But accidental? Like shit.

Who could have guessed what, exactly, the Jewify filter did?
CMC

It doubles as the Pinocchio filter.

It did add cloven hooves, but he was wearing shoes.

As someone who has worked a LOT with Photoshop, Illustrator, and other graphic design software, to this I say: “TOTAL 100% CRAP!” No one with half a brain would buy such a lame excuse… oh… wait…

Even with no experience with graphic design software, it seems implausible that the distortion would only be with the nose, not uniform throughout the image.

Alabama state representative decides to post facebook pictures of himself at the Klan rally he attended last weekend:

to be fair - at least some of the Alabama Republicans are criticizing him - not so much criticism as to expel him from his seat or even from the party, but some criticism. Still, when Alabama Republicans are pointing out someone’s racism, it says something because that’s a group with a really high bar for racism.

On the same day as John Lewis lay in the state capitol rotunda.

I mean, he did bring some pretty good potato salad.

Is the name “Dismukes” a portmanteau of “Dismal (David) Duke”?

Now, now - it wasn’t a Klan rally. It was a birthday party for the one of the founders of the Klan and its first Grand Wizard, Nathan Bedford Forrest. He probably was celebrating old Nate for Forrest’s late conversion to the concept of racial harmony.

…About 26 million adults reported going without enough food to eat in the previous week, according to an analysis of the Census Bureau’s weekly household data survey in early July.

But Republicans’ Health, Economic Assistance, Liability Protection and Schools Act (the Heals Act) does not expand the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, nor does it extend the Pandemic EBT program, a debit-card benefit for households with children who have temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals. The Pandemic EBT program expired at the end of June.

“Given the national conversation about institutional racism and inequality, the decision is baffling,” said Luis Guardia, president of the Food Research and Action Center advocacy group. “It’s hard to think of a program that has SNAP’s virtuous cycle of feeding people. That money turns over in the local economy quickly and creates more jobs, and ultimately if people have steady jobs, they aren’t hungry.”

Although the Senate GOP proposal offers no new funds for SNAP and Pandemic EBT, it does double the tax deduction for business meals, known as the “three-martini-lunch deduction,” increasing the reimbursement from 50 percent to 100 percent of meals.

I’m sure this doesn’t surprise anyone.

Ah… so he couldn’t see the Forrest for the Lees, aye…?

Just…go.

We’ve said it here many times. (Italics in original, I made them bold.)

After Mitt Romney lost the 2012 presidential race, the Republican National Committee chairman, Reince Priebus, commissioned an internal party study to examine why the party had won the popular vote only once since 1998. The results of that so-called autopsy were fairly obvious: The party needed to appeal to more people of color, reach out to younger voters, become more welcoming to women. Those conclusions were presented as not only a political necessity but also a moral mandate if the Republican Party were to be a governing party in a rapidly changing America.

Then Donald Trump emerged and the party threw all those conclusions out the window with an almost audible sigh of relief: Thank God we can win without pretending we really care about this stuff. That reaction was sadly predictable. I spent decades working to elect Republicans, including Mr. Romney and four other presidential candidates, and I am here to bear reluctant witness that Mr. Trump didn’t hijack the Republican Party. He is the logical conclusion of what the party became over the past 50 or so years, a natural product of the seeds of race, self-deception and anger that now dominate it. Hold Donald Trump up to a mirror and that bulging, scowling orange face is today’s Republican Party…

… Reading Mr. [George W.] Bush’s 2000 acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention now is like stumbling across a document from a lost civilization, with its calls for humility, service and compassion. That message couldn’t attract 20 percent in a Republican presidential primary today. If there really was a battle for the soul of the Republican Party, we lost…

Apologies if you haven’t had breakfast.

Holy shit, that is scary.

You’re not forgiven.

I dunno where to put this but I figure that this thread gets lots of views and this excellent 11 minute video should be seen by as many people as possible.

The video is by Saagar Enjeti of The Hill (he’s a conservative) examining the GOP’s last 40 years and how they have become a party committed to government inaction and thus are unable to respond meaningfully to the crises facing America. It’s a well-constructed piece that goes past today and looks at the upcoming election, where Republicans are literally slitting their own electoral wrists by denying their constituents a functioning government.

Feel free to pass that on to anyone you think might watch.

Getting COVID is a pretty stupid idea, and Louie Gohmert got COVID, so I think this counts. Yes, the stupidest man in Congress, who generally refused to wear a mask, tested positive for COVID. From Masking Naysayer to COVID Victim: The Louie Gohmert Story - TPM – Talking Points Memo
